When Ning Zhiheng left the interrogation department and rushed back to the action department, it was already past midnight.
He noticed that the light was still on in Wei Liangbi's office. Since the sulfonamide issue still needed to be reported and resolved, he knocked on the office door and went inside.
It was only then that they discovered Shi Hong was also in Wei Liangbi's office, with some files and items on his desk.
These are Huang Xiansheng's files and belongings. Wei Liangbi and Shi Hongzhen are carefully examining them, unsure if they will find anything.
"How did the interrogation go?" Upon seeing Ning Zhiheng return, Wei Liangbi immediately put down the materials in his hand and asked anxiously.
He didn't go home so late because he was waiting for news from Ning Zhiheng. If there was a breakthrough in the case, it would be a major case, a great achievement that would benefit them all.
"Huang Xiansheng has spoken up! This is a huge breakthrough; the case is shocking! This guy deserves to be executed ten times over!" Ning Zhiheng emphasized, speaking harshly. He then handed over the interrogation records.
Upon hearing Ning Zhiheng's words, Wei Liangbi and Shi Hong's eyes lit up immediately; this was good news.
"Eight hours and you've got it! Well done, Zhiheng!" Wei Liangbi excitedly stepped forward, half-embracing Ning Zhiheng's shoulders and shaking him vigorously.
“However, the torture was too severe. The prisoner now has a high fever and his body can’t take it anymore. We can’t continue the interrogation, otherwise there should still be clues to uncover,” Ning Zhiheng said with a helpless expression and resentment. “These people in the interrogation department are too ruthless. They’re still unwilling to use anti-inflammatory drugs. I don’t think the prisoner can hold on any longer!”
Ning Zhiheng pinned the blame on the interrogation department, since it was indeed Jiang Wende and Zhang Ping who tortured the criminals; he hadn't lifted a finger.
Wei Liangbi panicked upon hearing this. The credit was within his grasp, but the prisoner was about to be lost. It would be a false alarm.
"Those idiots in the interrogation department, they can mess up anything. Never mind, this matter is of great importance, let's pay this money first, and settle accounts with them after this is over!" Wei Liangbi said through gritted teeth.
He turned to Shi Hong and said, "Go to the cold storage and get two syringes of multi-injection immediately. Send them to the interrogation department and watch them administer the injections. I'll call the cold storage and go there first thing tomorrow morning to complete the paperwork. Be quick!"
Upon hearing the order, Shi Hong knew the matter was urgent and dared not delay, so he immediately went out.
Wei Liangbi also called to inform them that the Military Intelligence Bureau was well-organized, strictly managed, and had its own independent medical staff and pharmacy. There were also dedicated personnel on duty at night, so there was no fear of delays.
After finishing this task, Wei Liangbi eagerly opened the interrogation record to read it, and also signaled Ning Zhiheng to check Huang Xiansheng's materials. Finally, the two of them would summarize their opinions.
Ning Zhiheng also opened the file and carefully reviewed it. The file was clean and largely consistent with Huang Xiansheng's account. Thinking about it, it made sense; if there were problems with the file, could he have held his position as an operations staff officer in the Central Army securely?
He does indeed have a mother and brother still alive in his hometown of Linyi, Shandong. Does this mean he is truly Chinese? That doesn't make sense.
Finding no problems in the files, he then began checking the items in Huang Xiansheng's office, which contained only ordinary office supplies.
That's normal, though; given his cautious nature, he wouldn't keep valuables in his office.
Not long after, Shi Hong also returned. He entered the room and saw the two of them still reading their materials, so he didn't say anything and waited to the side.
"Brother Hong, did it go smoothly when you went to retrieve the files?" Ning Zhiheng asked.
He quickly finished reading the documents in his hand, somewhat disappointed. There wasn't much to see anyway; how could something so readily available be problematic?
Seeing that Shi Hong was doing nothing, she first asked him what was going on.
"The file transfer went smoothly, no one bothered, but everyone's keeping their distance. I wanted to find someone to ask about Huang Xiansheng's daily life, but I couldn't find anyone. It's like they're avoiding a plague," Shi Hong said gruffly.
“Of course, in their eyes, we Military Intelligence Bureau people are like the King of Hell, judges, and evil spirits! But that’s fine too, we need to make them fearful and terrified, so they won’t dare to interfere, and then we can act more easily. That’s what you call having both advantages and disadvantages.” Wei Liangbi interjected after finally finishing reading the interrogation records.
"Team leader, what are your instructions?" Ning Zhiheng asked Wei Liangbi. In front of Shi Hong, Ning Zhiheng still showed some restraint.
He only addresses his senior brother directly when the two of them are alone together.
“A big fish, Zhiheng, do you know that? If this interrogation record is released, it will be enough to cause a huge upheaval!” Wei Liangbi stood up, took the tea handed to him by Shi Hong, and slowly paced back and forth in the room twice.
Finally, he spoke again, saying, "According to the contents here, all the military equipment, firepower, personnel lists, military deployments, etc. of the 11th Central Division have been completely leaked in the past few years, leaving no secrets whatsoever. It can be said that once China and Japan go to war, if we deploy the 11th Division to join the battle, we will face a bloody massacre."
"That bastard, he's just a regimental-level operations staff officer, how could he have obtained so much important intelligence?" Shi Hong was terrified, his face turning pale. The consequences were too serious. If investigated, all the military commanders of the 11th Division would be implicated. This would definitely be a political disaster.
Wei Liangbi's eyes revealed a cold and sinister look as he coldly said, "What is a military secret to us is not to these operational staff officers. Based on the intelligence they have access to and the analysis of operational instructions, as long as someone is willing to put in the effort, our military secrets will be stolen bit by bit by these rats! In addition, these bureaucrats in our army are incompetent and have no sense of secrecy whatsoever."
