Chapter Ninety-Nine: Second Interrogation

After watching him leave the teahouse, Ning Zhiheng asked Liu Datong, "Where is that thief Cui Er now?"

"He's still in the police station detention center. They were a bit too rough; they broke his leg. Would you like to interrogate him yourself?" Liu Datong replied.

Ning Zhiheng nodded and said, "Hmm, I'm not entirely clear on the situation you described. I need to ask you in person! Let's eat first, and after we finish eating, we'll go to the detention center. I'll personally interrogate this Cui Er!"

The two ordered some food casually and ate a quick bite. Ning Zhiheng returned to the military intelligence department, drove his car, and hurriedly took Liu Datong to the police station detention center.

This was Ning Zhiheng's second visit to this detention center. The warden, Old Liao, greeted him with a smile as soon as he saw Sergeant Liu Datong.

Everyone knows that Liu Datong is no ordinary person; he has powerful backers. His prestige is currently at its peak, and even Chief Tang of the police station greets him with a smile, not daring to offend him.

"Old Liao, stop with the nonsense and bring that Cui Er up here right now. Commander Ning, we need to interrogate him ourselves!" Liu Datong gave the order directly without any further words.

Only then did Lao Liao notice that a young man had followed Police Chief Liu in. Upon seeing the young man's face, his expression changed drastically, and he shuddered in fright.

He recognized Ning Zhiheng; he knew that Ning was Chief Liu's powerful backer, the head of the Military Intelligence Investigation Department. Back when Ning Zhiheng was in his prime, that foolish Wang Bapi (a derogatory term for a corrupt official) was caught red-handed and imprisoned in that hellish Military Intelligence Investigation Department, never to return, his life a mystery. Even their Director Tang, if he hadn't been quick-witted, would have been caught in the crossfire and met a similar fate!

Seeing that he was too frightened to speak, Ning Zhiheng laughed and said, "What are you panicking about? Do you still recognize me?"

Old Liao immediately forced a smile and replied tremblingly, "Sir, I recognize you! Of course I recognize you! I'll go get the men for you right away!"

After saying that, he turned around and ran quickly to retrieve the prisoner. This was a devil who would take people's lives at any time, so how could Lao Liao dare to be negligent!

Soon, Lao Liao brought over Cui Er, who was already dragging half a leg, with a limp, along with several prison guards.

"Cui Er, this is Commander Ning from the Military Intelligence Investigation Department. He wants to question you personally. You must answer truthfully and completely. If you dare to utter even a single lie, I'll take your head today. Do you understand?" Liu Datong shouted sternly at Cui Er.

Cui Er, who was curled up on the ground, trembled with fright at the sound and pleaded, "Chief Liu, look how badly I've been beaten. I've told you everything. What else would I dare to hide from you, sir?"

Ning Zhiheng stepped forward and asked, "Cui Er, I'm asking you, why did you choose No. 2 Willow Alley as your target?"

Cui Er didn't recognize Ning Zhiheng, but he could clearly see that Sergeant Liu, whom he feared like a tiger, and Old Liao, the head of the detention center's prison guards, were both standing obediently beside Ning Zhiheng, not daring to get too close. This indicated that the person questioning Ning Zhiheng held a position far above Sergeant Liu and Old Liao.

The person speaking to him was young, but he exuded a commanding presence. Although his words were slow, they were oppressive and left him no room for resistance.

"Sir, it really wasn't for any reason! I was starving, so I just randomly picked a house and jumped in! I never expected to get so much money!" Cui Er replied honestly, head drooping.

“Tell me the truth! What else did you steal besides this money?” Ning Zhiheng asked again.

"No, really nothing! I swear there's nothing left! I saw so much money! My eyes were glued to it, I couldn't think of anything else! I just grabbed the money and ran!" Cui Er quickly swore an oath when he heard Ning Zhiheng's question.

Cui Er was afraid that Ning Zhiheng wouldn't believe him, so he even cried out in tears, looking anxious and repeatedly shouting that he was wronged!

Ning Zhiheng remained unmoved, staring coldly at him. Suddenly, he kicked Cui Er in the stomach, the powerful force sending Cui Er crashing heavily against the wall, writhing in pain.

The sudden attack startled even several prison guards, including Liu Datong and Lao Liao, who were watching from the sidelines.

Looking at Ning Zhiheng, who exuded a cold aura, Liu Datong couldn't tell that this person was the same Ning Zhiheng who had been chatting amiably with the rickshaw driver Cheng Guang just an hour ago!

Sure enough, a wolf is a wolf! Even if it occasionally shows a gentle side, its nature cannot be changed; it is destined to eat meat and drink blood!

Ning Zhiheng lowered his body, staring intently at his face, and asked again in a deep voice, "I'll ask you one more time, think it through before you answer! Besides money, what else did you steal?"

Cui Er was stunned by the sudden kick. He didn't know why this cold-looking young officer didn't believe him, but at this critical moment, he could only grit his teeth, endure the pain, and say weakly, "Sir, really, there's nothing else! I swear! I really didn't steal anything except money!"

In his previous life, Ning Zhiheng had meticulously studied books on language and body language. He had his own understanding of how to observe and express human body language.

Last time, it was with this ability that Huang Xiansheng's nephew, Huang Hui, was easily identified from among the pastry shop's employees.

He had been staring intently at Cui Er, exerting immense mental pressure on him. He noticed that when Cui Er answered his question, his eyes unconsciously avoided his piercing gaze, his pupils first looking upwards and then shifting to the left.
