Chapter 6 My Cousin's Thoughts

"Come on, Nanxing! What are you daydreaming about? Is your brother Beixing at home too?" Jiang Wanwan walked briskly, smiling as she looked at her little cousin.

"Ah! He's at home. I don't know what's wrong with him lately. He used to not come home until dark during holidays, but now he locks himself in his room all the time and doesn't go out or talk to us."

"The college entrance exam is coming up this year, and they might be secretly studying hard!"

"No way! The chemistry teacher has been talking to him a lot lately, and who knows, he might even talk to my mom one of these days!"

Jiang Wanwan followed her cousin, chatting and laughing, all the way to her third aunt's house. Before she even reached the yard, she could smell the aroma of stewed cured meat from afar.

The shiny black Labrador at the doorway wagged its thick tail with difficulty, whimpering incessantly.

Jiang Wanwan swiftly scooped up the dog's head and soothed it, saying, "Little Black, you've gained quite a bit of weight in just a few months! No dog in the whole village can compare to you!"

Little Black was as happy as a kettle, humming and whining as it followed the kettle into the yard.

"Wanwan's here, come in quickly!" Madam Yang greeted her while wiping her hands on her floral apron.

Jiang Wanwan greeted them sweetly, then followed Yang Shi into the main house's living room. The living room was decorated in a style similar to the modern style commonly found in the city, with off-white floor tiles, a marble coffee table, and a leather sofa.

The house of the three families was built a few years ago after the family divided their property. It is a two-story villa with five rooms downstairs and four rooms upstairs in addition to a large balcony. Such a house is unique in the village.

After the house was repaired, the eldest son's family came to make a scene, saying that the grandparents favored their youngest son and gave all the money to the third son's family. In the end, they argued that they would never take care of the grandparents in their old age.

In fact, Jiang Wanwan's third uncle, Jiang Dahai, had worked in mines and gold mines in his early years, and had also ventured to the coast for several years, so he had indeed saved up a lot of money.

In the past two years, he has made a fortune from construction projects and even bought a wedding house for each of his two sons in the city.

Jiang Wanwan also heard her father, Jiang Dahe, say that back in the 1980s, he had secretly deposited a fixed deposit of 200,000 yuan for Jiang Dahai.

"Wanwan, this is a watermelon that your third uncle bought at the market this morning. It's perfect to eat now to quench your thirst."

Jiang Wanwan took the fruit plate and handed a piece to Jiang Nanxing. As soon as the boy got home, he squatted on the sofa with both legs and feet, playing games on his phone.

"Sister, I'm going to die! Save me!" Jiang Nanxing twisted her body and moved far away from the watermelon.

"Wanwan, don't worry about him, just eat. Sigh! My two kids, the older one is like a young lady who never leaves the house, and the younger one is always on his phone playing colorful games, which is making his eyesight worse and worse. He won't listen to anything I say! Sigh!"

As Jiang Wanwan ate watermelon, she heard Yang Shi start to scold her two younger cousins, so she quickly interrupted her: "Third Aunt, is Beixing upstairs? I'm going to go play with him."

"He hasn't come out since he ate breakfast this morning. Go find him upstairs! I'll go to the kitchen and add a few more of your favorite dishes." Yang hurriedly returned to the kitchen.

Jiang Wanwan walked up the semi-circular staircase to the second floor. There was a knock on the door, and rustling sounds came from inside. It took a long time for the door to open.

A haggard, pale face suddenly appeared before her, startling Jiang Wanwan. Her cousin seemed to have lost a lot of weight suddenly, with dark circles under his eyes, and his gaze was no longer as vibrant as before.

"Sister!" Jiang Beixing called out weakly in a hoarse voice, then returned to her desk and buried herself in something.

"Hey! Your cousin has the aura of a vengeful spirit on him!"

Just as Jiang Wanwan was about to ask her cousin, the voice of her cheap master rang in her mind, so she began to ask telepathically, "A vengeful spirit? What is that?"

"Wraiths are the souls of those who died unjustly. After death, they linger in the world and repeatedly experience the suffering they endured in life."

Over time, they may even transform into evil spirits. Originally, one or two vengeful spirits would not have much of an impact on people, and as time goes by, the vengeful spirits will gradually forget their obsessions and dissipate on their own.

However, there is another possibility: if too many people die unjustly, their resentment will soar to the heavens, and their vengeful spirits will linger for a long time. That's why your younger cousin has been tainted by that thing's aura.”

"Will Beixing be in trouble?"

"There's no impact at the moment. Just go out in the sun and avoid contact with those vengeful spirits, and everything will be fine! You should still ask him if he's been to any unusual places recently."

Jiang Wanwan walked up behind her cousin and found a high school chemistry textbook open in front of him. The cover was brand new and there were no notes. He just stared at it blankly and didn't turn a page for a long time.

"Beixing, have you gone anywhere else to have fun besides school and home lately?"

It took Jiang Beixing a while to realize that his cousin was asking him a question. He raised his overly thin chin and answered blankly, "No, I've just been at school."

"By the way, I saw that the pansies on your balcony are blooming. Do you want to go take a look together? Didn't you say last time that you were going to give them away after the college entrance exam?"

"Yes! I also want to deliver flowers!" Jiang Beixing suddenly stood up excitedly and staggered towards the large balcony outside the door.

Jiang Wanwan followed and went outside. She looked at the sun and saw that it was just right for her to bask in the sun.

Jiang Wanwan moved a deck chair to a shady spot and watched from afar as Jiang Beixing squatted on the flower bed, staring intently at the pansies under the blazing sun.

"Oh dear! It's only been a few months since I last saw him, but my cousin seems to be possessed. Master, is he really alright?"

"When he starts school, you can go with him to the school and see what's going on. Maybe you'll discover something."

"Okay! It's Monday tomorrow, I'll take you to see the place where I used to study."

Jiang Wanwan casually shared modern social science teaching methods with her unscrupulous mentor, hoping that her mentor could learn from them. She was talking about the Rosenthal effect.

From afar, Jiang Beixing seemed to be fully charged, running to Jiang Wanwan in just a few steps.

"Sister Wanwan, could you give me a voice recorder?" Jiang Beixing's face seemed to have regained some color after basking in the sun for a while.

What do you need a voice recorder for?

"Hmm... I've been feeling like I'm falling behind in my studies lately. I'd like to record my lessons so I can listen to them privately after class."

"No problem, I'll place an order now and it can be delivered to your school tomorrow. I can go with you to visit my former teacher tomorrow."
