Chapter 34 After the Thunderstorm

Bai Chongjiang stood up, opened the window, and looked at the sky outside, lost in thought.

The two little maids looked at her with some curiosity: "Young Miss is clearly thirteen years old, why is she so short..."

Fortunately, Bai Chongjiang cannot read minds.

After half an hour of torrential rain, the dark clouds quickly dispersed, and the sky gradually revealed a bright blue.

A rainbow arched high in the sky like two bridges, one orange-red and the other pale pink, as if it were the smile of the sky.

As the rain subsided, the temperature gradually rose, and a fresh scent filled the air. Bai Chongjiang gently pushed open the door, opened her arms to the breeze, as if to embrace the whole world.

“Wow, this view is absolutely stunning!” she exclaimed.

The sky was a pale blue, as if the rain had washed away the dust, making it appear exceptionally clear.

The colors of the rainbow are like a watercolor painting applied across half the sky; such a combination of colors would be difficult for even the most skilled artist to imagine. Nature's artistry always manages to create such breathtaking scenery.

"I haven't done any work today, so I'll take advantage of the free time to tidy up the yard."

After saying that, he went back to his room, took out a small curved knife from his pack, and said to the two girls who were still by the fire, "You two don't just stand there, go back and pack your things. You don't need to come over tonight, I still have some dry food here."

Bai Chongjiang smiled at the little girl, then turned and left.

After Tao Hong and Yue Lan finished getting ready and went out, Bai Chong Jiang was squatting on the ground digging grass, looking very focused, just like a typical child in the countryside, their younger sibling.

The two of them were unsure of their feelings at the moment, and could only pull each other out of the courtyard.

This young lady has a really strange temper. When I first met her, I thought she was short, timid, and easy to bully.

After getting to know him, I felt that he was a cold-hearted and indifferent person who didn't care about other people's feelings at all.

Now, she shows no resentment or affection towards the two men in her conversations and actions, as if they were just a wisp of wind or a tree. No matter how they come or go, she remains herself, and neither can stir her emotions or shake her decisions.

The two exchanged a glance: Is this what cultivators are like?

A sense of awe and reverence rose in my heart.

Bai Chongjiang didn't pay much attention to them. As far as his eyes could see, the courtyard was not only filled with tenacious weeds, but also with a few tender wild vegetables. After resting for a while, he planned to boil a pot of water and enjoy this natural delicacy.

After the weeds were cleared away, A-Jiang leisurely looked around. The courtyard felt cramped because it was filled with all sorts of odds and ends. The east wing, in particular, had clearly not been used for a long time, adding to the desolate atmosphere.

The courtyard wall was low, with lush green bamboo growing on one side. This should have been an elegant scene, but it was neglected. Bamboo shoots sprouted haphazardly, and bamboo leaves withered and scattered, untouched by anyone. This sight added to the eerie atmosphere of the entire courtyard, making it seem like a haunted house.

Just as Bai Chongjiang was leisurely surveying the ancient courtyard, a soft knock came from the gate, breaking the silence.

A little girl in a pink dress peeked in shyly. When she saw Bai Chongjiang standing by the water tank, she walked over somewhat reservedly.

"Miss, this is tonight's dinner," she said softly, her voice tinged with unease and nervousness.

Bai Chongjiang was somewhat surprised. The little girl's attitude was completely different from her previous indifference, and she couldn't help but feel a little puzzled.

However, she didn't ask any further questions, but simply smiled gently and replied, "Thank you. Have you eaten? Would you like to eat some together?"

Her words conveyed warmth and kindness, which eased the little girl's tense nerves a bit.

"I've already eaten. I won't disturb your rest, Miss. I'll keep the dishes and clean them up tomorrow."

After saying that, he put the food box in the room and then left in a flash.

Bai Zhongjiang returned to his room and opened the food box. Inside were a fist-sized white steamed bun, a dish of pickled vegetables, and a bowl of spinach and egg soup.

"Did the kitchen prepare this for me?"

Even the servants' meals might not be this simple; this first wife is too petty.

"Using these petty tricks to torment someone is really beneath me. I need to find a way to let her know that I'm not someone to be trifled with!"

However, this wasn't the only problem he encountered after returning home. Bai Chongjiang decided to save it for later. He was exhausted after a long day. After dinner, he walked around the yard three times before going to bed to meditate and cultivate.
