Chapter 121 The Future One

When Gu Li woke up, the room was completely dark. He stared at the ceiling, his eyes empty. He wondered what he should do.

Then a gentle face appeared in his memory, with its features clearly defined. The emptiness he felt subsided, and he immediately went to look for his phone.

The phone fell onto the black plush carpet. When he reached out to touch it, the plush carpet brushed against his hand. Gu Li paused, looking at the carpet.

Black and soft, he thought of Jiang Xu's hair.

He jumped up, phone in hand, the feeling of weakness completely gone. He dialed a number and went to the door.

Just as Jiang Xu answered the phone, the doorbell rang. He got up from the sofa. "At the door?"

As Gu Li listened to the voice on the other end of the phone, the feeling of floating completely faded away. "Yeah, I'm at the door." He said softly, "Why aren't you opening the door for me yet?" His voice carried a hint of unreasonable nagging.

Jiang Xu opened the door. Gu Li's red hair was a little messy, the first button of his pajamas was undone, and there were slight red marks on his collarbone. He looked like he had just woken up. "Come in quickly..." His gaze swept over Gu Li's bare feet.

His fair skin touched the cold ground, staining it with a red tinge that was hard to tell if it was from the cold, but his owner, oblivious, laughed and said, "Are you asleep?" as he started to walk inside.

"You stay standing." Jiang Xu pulled Gu Li back.

Gu Li turned her head to look at Jiang Xu, her eyes filled with confusion. "What's wrong?"

Jiang Xu pointed to the ground, then handed his slippers to Gu Li, saying, "Put these on and sit on the sofa."

Gu Li didn't move. "I'll go get it myself," he said, and started to walk towards the shoe cabinet.

Jiang Xu pulled her back again. "It's not in the shoe cabinet. I'll go look for it in the room. You can sit on the sofa." He looked at Gu Li and lowered his voice a little. "Do you want me to carry you over?" He paused. "Gu Li."

Gu Li readily put on his slippers. "I'll just be a little polite," he said, glancing at Jiang Xu after putting them on. "How about this, you don't have any shoes, so I'll carry you?"

Jiang Xu said, "Not good," he pushed Gu Li's back, "Go sit down, you don't seem very awake, go rest."

Gu Li didn't really resist and followed Jiang Xu's lead towards the sofa. He had just woken up and was a little exhausted. "What will you do if you can't find it?"

Jiang Xu: "That's even better. They say those who have nothing to lose are not afraid of those who have something to lose. It just means I've become stronger."

Gu Li said with a smile, swinging his leg. "I'll give you one, but it can't be stronger than mine, just about the same strength."

Jiang Xu laughed too, "Can you accept a draw now?" He remembered when they first met, Gu Li refused to concede even the slightest loss.

Gu Li said, "I'll have to do it reluctantly. You should go quickly, or I won't buy you medicine if you catch a cold."

As Jiang Xu walked away, he left with his last words, "If I catch a cold, I'm sure I'll pass it on to you."

Gu Li glanced around casually, just as Jiang Xu's laptop was still open. He glanced at it and then looked away, his eyes sharp despite his unintentional probing.

He seemed to see the Jiang Construction Group; a few words remained on his retina. He frowned slightly. Was it the Jiang Group he was thinking of?

That's quite a coincidence.

But Gu Li didn't bother to confirm it. Seeing those words was already unintentional, but he felt that he would find out eventually.

Jiang Xu returned quickly, and Gu Li's gaze followed him. When she saw Jiang Xu's whole body, Gu Li burst out laughing without any attempt to hide it.

Jiang Xu walked over and sat down. "Is that funny?"

Gu Li's lips still curved upwards. "Actually... it's... not so bad." His words were broken by his laughter.

Jiang Xu leaned back on the sofa and said, "I suggest you laugh before you talk."

Gu Li turned her head to look at Jiang Xu, her hair and laughter both disheveled, and finally her eyes curved slightly at the corners. "I'm done laughing."

Jiang Xu nodded. "Since you've finished laughing, that means you accept it. Come on, change."

Gu Li pointed to herself, "Prepared for me."

Jiang Xu nodded calmly, "Mm."

Gu Li, "Pink?"

Jiang Xu: "Mm."

Gu Li, "Really?"

Jiang Xu smiled earnestly at Gu Li, "Of course."

Gu Li paused, then leaned closer to Jiang Xu, his hand resting on the sofa. "Come tell me, why did you prepare pink slippers?" He gave a mischievous smile. "You don't have a girlish heart, do you?"

Jiang Xu looked at the person who was getting closer and suddenly felt like teasing them, "Why didn't you say it was for my future partner?"

A look of confusion flashed across Gu Li's eyes for a moment, "The one in the future?"

Jiang Xu smiled gently, as if he had thought of something, "Yes."

Gu Li said expressionlessly, "Pink doesn't look good. Your taste is off again."

Jiang Xu looked down at it. "Really? I think it looks pretty good."

Gu Li quickly denied it, saying, "You've misunderstood."

Jiang Xu, "So what color do you think looks good?"

Gu Li said, "Let me think about it." He lowered his eyes and looked like he was really thinking. "I suddenly feel like there aren't any colors that look good today."

Jiang Xu nodded, and then asked thoughtfully, "Then tell me tomorrow?"

Gu Li forced a straight line, "I'm not free tomorrow."

Jiang Xu tilted his head. "Those horror movies?"

Gu Li stopped looking at Jiang Xu and turned to look ahead. Just as Jiang Xu was about to bring up the topic again, Gu Li's voice rang out, "Then let's watch it today, watch it now, watch it tonight, anyway, we won't watch it tomorrow." Her voice was clearly tinged with a bit of sullenness.

Jiang Xu chuckled softly, "Is this some kind of 'whoever gets out of singlehood first is a dog' resentment?"

Gu Li: "No, not at all."

Jiang Xu: "So that's considered preemptive dissatisfaction?"

Gu Li looked at Jiang Xu, "I'm very satisfied."

Jiang Xu, "Is that because you're unhappy with your pink slippers?"

Gu Li, “It’s not mine…” He stopped speaking and looked at Jiang Xu, a slight disbelief in his eyes.

Jiang Xu, seemingly oblivious to Gu Li's reaction, said, "These are yours." He looked at the slippers intently and nodded. "They're a gift for Gu Li, a girl with a girlish heart."

Gu Li also looked at the slippers, "And your future partner?"

Jiang Xu said casually, "I'll just buy him a new one."

“Jiang Xu…” Gu Li’s voice trailed off, the long trailing tone carrying a hint of helplessness.

Jiang Xu and Gu Li looked at each other. "So what do you think?" His eyes held a smile, indulgent yet gentle.

Gu Li pondered this carefully. He was used to being free, but he only showed his boldness and frankness to a select few. He spoke up, "I think this might be a selfish thought," he said, looking at Jiang Xu, "would you like to hear what I have to say?"

He thought Jiang Xu would be the most special one.
