Chapter 157 Destiny

Jiang Xu had a fixed perspective this time, and from his position, he could see Gu Li's profile. Gu Li was facing several thugs, and a black-haired youth was lying not far behind her.

The young man had his head down, his overly long hair obscuring his face, and the mottled black marks on his school uniform made him look particularly miserable.

Jiang Xu frowned as he looked at the young man whose face he couldn't see clearly. He didn't even need to think to know that it was Jiang Xu.

Jiang Xu, who hides behind others and is of no use, relies on others for protection.

Facing the group, Gu Li said expressionlessly, "Hurry up, or I'll be late."

Jiang Xu was both amused and exasperated by these words. He was quite worried about Gu Li. The young man had grown taller, but he still looked thin and wiry. He was almost there, but his physique didn't seem like he could handle things on his own.

He wanted to step forward; he wanted to stand shoulder to shoulder with him at this moment.

But he also felt a bit helpless and wanted to laugh. This kid was still arrogant from beginning to end, standing proudly in the wind, and his waist looked exceptionally thin, accentuated by his t-shirt.

The moment the veins on his arm bulged, the young man rushed out.

The fist slammed down; the boy wasn't quite in control yet, and Jiang Xu watched in utter terror.

He held his breath whenever he saw the other's fists and feet just about to reach Gu Li, and only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the other hadn't touched him at all.

The young man was at a disadvantage against the many. He glanced around and saw that after clapping his hands when he had basically dealt with everyone, some people rushed up again.

A punch landed squarely on the boy's waist. Jiang Xu's eyes widened instantly. He instinctively tried to rush forward and knock the man down, but it was all in vain.

Jiang Xu clenched his fist, and the atmosphere around him suddenly became heavy. He cursed under his breath.

The system understood the gist of the conversation. "How about we skip this part?"

Jiang Xu glanced over coolly, "I don't want to see my partner retaliate. If you don't understand, just stay quiet."

System: I'm asking unnecessary questions; being single is a sin.

Gu Li seemed completely unaffected by the man's sudden attack. He moved swiftly and decisively, kicking the man away. "If you've never played before, take your time. What's the rush?" He tilted his head, his black hair arcing sharply through the air. "Those who want to die have to line up."

As soon as he finished speaking, the men present exchanged glances, then helped each other to their feet. "You're lucky this time, kid. Just you wait," they threatened Jiang Xu, who was leaning against the wall.

"Next time?" Gu Li's voice was a little doubtful. "Didn't you see that we wear the same school uniforms? We're in the same class, you know? We walk together every day, you know? Come find me, Gu Li from No. 1 High School. Don't be afraid to come."

Jiang Xu's eyes were glued to Gu Li, only glancing at Jiang Xu briefly. In that single glance, he saw a fierce light burst forth in the lifeless man's eyes, like a flickering fire.

The group whispered among themselves as they left, and Gu Li patted his clothes, which weren't even stained with dust.

Jiang Xu had only one thought: he wanted to see how badly Gu Li was injured. This kid didn't even glance at him, showing no concern whatsoever.

Gu Li was about to leave when a weak voice came from behind him, "Thank you for helping me." He added a little embarrassedly, "Are you called Gu Li?"

Jiang Xu glanced at Jiang Xu, who tried to raise his head and look at Gu Li, who had his back to him.

Gu Li turned his head. While Jiang Xu was waiting for his answer, he simply looked at the schoolbag placed against the wall. He walked over, bent down, picked it up, and walked out of the alley with the bag in his hand.

He completely ignored Jiang Xu, not even glancing at him. He was incredibly cold throughout, showing no sign of the intentions he had made with Jiang Xu.

Jiang Xu laughed. He thought Lu Chao was right; Gu Li was indeed picky, quite picky about everything.

The system asked, "Should we follow them and take a look?"

Jiang Xu, "Aren't you going to freeze me in place?"

System: "Oh, your partner's already left, and you're still able to stay?"

Jiang Xu said, "You've got a good eye! See? You can always learn from following along. Keep up the good work and improve!"

System: Okay, Bai Yinyang is done. He'll have something to say no matter what you say.

They followed Gu Li and saw him leave the alley and turn into another alley after walking for a short while, and he even looked around to see if anyone else was there.

Jiang Xu was somewhat confused. What was this person planning to do?

Gu Li, with his back to the alley entrance, lifted his shirt and bent down slightly. "Ouch," he frowned, looking at the spot where he had been punched. "What bad luck. Next time, I'll kick him a couple more times."

Jiang Xu heard Gu Li's whispered words clearly. His eyes were filled with worry, but he couldn't help but smile. He looked a little awkward.

The system said, "You're being quite scary."

Jiang Xu said casually, "You scared me to death, you coward." He looked at Gu Li more carefully and lightly touched Gu Li's waist with his fingertips.

The system spoke again, "How about we give you some tactile feedback? That would make it more realistic."

Jiang Xu looked over speechlessly and retorted without hesitation, "Are you a pervert?"

The system tilted its head but couldn't help speaking up, "If you don't want it, then don't. You're swearing again, aren't you? I won't ask again next time." It complained softly, then looked at Jiang Xu.

Very well, Jiang Xu didn't even glance at him, his eyes were completely on Gu Li.

Gu Li lowered his clothes, lightly kicked the wall beside him, and then put on a fierce expression. "It really hurts a bit." He looked up at the sky and said, "Mom." His voice was so soft that it seemed to float into the sky.

He looked down at his backpack, unzipped it, and peeked inside. Jiang Xu saw it too.

It was that black brocade box. Jiang Xu's hand subconsciously went to his neck, and he touched the warm jade on the chain. It all seemed to be preordained.

Gu Li looked at the box and smiled gently. He zipped up the bag, slung it over his shoulder, and left.

The warm feeling faded, and Jiang Xu woke up. The pure white space felt empty. He thought to himself that he was starting to miss the red-haired youth.

The system looked at Jiang Xu, who had just woken up, and asked, "Shall we talk about the host now?"

Jiang Xu: "Wait a little longer, let me ask more clearly."

The system said, "You're still asking...?"

Jiang Xu said, "When I buy a house, people always give me a good introduction, let alone something as important as life and death."

The system is "unrelated to life."

Jiang Xu: "How is it unrelated? Your previous host was still lying there, wasn't he?"

The system replied, "That was his destiny."

Jiang Xu lowered his eyes and thought for a moment, "Destiny?" He had some doubts, but he was more concerned with the meaning of those two words.

The system sensed Jiang Xu's thoughts and waited for him to finish them.

Jiang Xu looked up at the illusory figure. "Then why did we switch places? If it's destiny, why did it deviate? Should I be called Jiang Xu or Jiang Xu?"
