Jiang Xu gently covered Gu Li's eyes with his hand, her eyelashes trembling in his hand. "Think of something happy so you can recover faster, otherwise I won't give it to you." He then removed his hand.
Gu Li opened his eyes again with a calm expression. "I feel like a fish," he explained before they could ask why. "You're all using that thing to lure me."
Ji Hai gently nudged his shoulder, "Stop being so cheeky."
Xu Lang smiled and said, "We really hope you get better soon, Brother Li."
The door opened again, and Gu Feng, wearing a black trench coat, walked in.
The man had strong facial features and sharp eyes. He exuded a powerful aura while remaining indifferent. His gaze swept over the group of people, lingering on Jiang Xu for a couple of seconds before turning to look at Gu Li on the bed.
The atmosphere in the room suddenly became oppressive. Gu Feng walked to Gu Li's bedside. "What did the doctor say?"
Gu Li replied coldly, "I won't die."
Gu Feng glanced at the group again. Xie Tao stood up and said, "Hello, Uncle Gu. We're going to buy some food for Gu Li. You guys chat first." He then patted the shoulder of the person next to him, and the four of them walked towards the door.
Lu Chao didn't really want to leave, but as soon as he stepped out the door, he said, "Should we have someone bring the food later?"
Xu Lang also looked at Xie Tao, "Tao, I also think it's okay to have someone deliver it."
Ji Hai: "Actually, it would be easier to talk to them if we left them behind."
Xie Tao spoke calmly, "This time is different. Managing Gu Li ourselves and letting others mess with Gu Li are completely different things for the Gu family."
Lu Chao was still somewhat dissatisfied, saying, "It's just so annoying."
The four of them left, leaving only three people in the ward. Before Gu Li could say anything, Gu Feng looked at Jiang Xu and spoke, "Hello, Jiang Xu," he nodded to the man, "Could you give me some time to talk to my son?"
Gu Li initially wanted to refuse, but when Jiang Xu looked at him, nodded, and smiled at him, Gu Li couldn't say anything.
Jiang Xu smiled politely at Gu Feng and said, "Uncle Gu, please. Gu Li is probably embarrassed to tell you about his illness. The doctor said it's best not to have too many emotional fluctuations. If he says anything, please be understanding and don't take it to heart. Please be considerate of him, what do you say?"
Looking at the young man's expression of approval and his unperturbed demeanor, Gu Feng nodded to him, "You're injured too, go and get some rest."
Jiang Xu said, "Thank you for your concern, Uncle Gu." After saying this, he looked at Gu Li with a reassuring tone, then turned and walked towards the door.
Gu Li watched Jiang Xu's retreating figure, "Jiang Xu."
As he finished speaking, Jiang Xu turned around and looked at him. Gu Li looked at Jiang Xu and said, "Wait for my call."
Jiang Xu smiled and nodded, "Mm." He responded, followed by the soft sound of the door closing, and the room returned to silence.
Looking at the two of them like this, Gu Feng thought that even if Gu Li didn't tell him about their relationship, he would know everything just by looking at them like this once.
"Ahem." He cleared his throat, but before he could say anything, Gu Li spoke up.
"You caught a cold?" Gu Li asked, then added, "Don't infect me."
Gu Feng sat on the sofa, his expression unchanged upon hearing this, remaining as calm as ever. "I'm not going to argue with you about this. You've already made such a mess of things by the moment I withdrew my men. If this had gone any later, you'd be fish food in the river. Do you think that would have looked good?"
Gu Li: "What does this have to do with your people? Does having your people guarantee I'll never have any accidents in my life?"
Gu Feng, "You call something that's almost fatal a minor accident?"
Gu Li said, "Please be gentle with your curses, I'm still alive and well."
Gu Feng was used to Gu Li's attitude, so he changed the subject back to, "The people I sent away need to be brought back." He didn't ask any questions, as if he had already made up his mind.
Gu Li turned her head to look at Gu Feng, who was sitting upright, and said, "Why should I? Are you Pinocchio?"
Gu Feng: "What if you mess things up and kill yourself if I don't have someone watching you?"
"Who said no one was watching me?" Gu Li suddenly became more assertive. "My partner is watching me all the time. Isn't everything alright this time because of him?"
He took a breath and continued, "If I wait for your people to discover it and report it to you before you deal with it, I might really be fish food. Besides, whether you can even receive it in time is another matter."
"I can receive it," Gu Feng replied, his tone very certain.
Gu Li stared at him for a moment, then her gaze darkened slightly. "Too slow, and too late." It was unclear whether she was referring to this matter or something else.
A silence fell over them. They remained silent for a long time, their fingers intertwined. Gu Li stared at the ceiling, while Gu Feng, noticing the distracted person, spoke up, "It's just a swap. What do you think about exchanging your first condition from last time for the second one?"
Gu Li stared at the ceiling, her pupils contracting slightly as thought filled her mind. "Are you serious?" Her voice was devoid of emotion.
Gu Feng: "I won't say it a second time. If you're not happy about it, then forget it."
Gu Li turned his head to look at Gu Feng, a smile on his lips, "Who said I wasn't willing? Deal." He sealed the deal before thinking to speak, "What, you've changed your mind? You're not going to be seen as a feudal and conservative old-fashioned person anymore?"
Gu Feng felt a throbbing in his temples. "Speak properly to me," he said, rubbing his forehead before continuing, "Don't be too happy yet. Who knows, if left unchecked, you'll start bragging even faster."
Gu Li watched the IV drip slowly fall, feeling quite at ease. "Your curses are getting stronger with each one, but I'm really not afraid of this one."
Gu Feng gave a soft hum, "Time will teach you, you'll know then," he said, clasping his hands together and leaning back slightly on the sofa, "What happened this time?"
“Zhao Jing,” Gu Li mentioned the name, then lowered his voice and looked at Gu Feng, speaking softly, “The Zhao family,” he sighed slightly, and added again, “is not exactly peaceful.”
Gu Feng twirled his knuckles. "You don't need to worry about these things. You're just a clown jumping around. I'm asking about this matter."
Gu Li looked at Gu Feng with a strange expression, "Why don't you go check if you have a fever? You're at the hospital, so it'll be convenient."
Gu Feng couldn't help but rub his forehead. "I told you to speak properly."
Gu Li replied, "You should speak properly. You usually ask these questions, didn't you find out? Has the thousand-year-old fox changed its nature?"
Gu Feng said, "I didn't investigate. Otherwise, I would have asked you." Looking at Gu Li's questioning expression, he stared straight at her and said, "Tell me what happened."
"I suspect you're trying to stall me, otherwise why would a patient tell you stories?" Gu Li complained, but she also began to speak.
The incident didn't last long. Gu Feng's brows furrowed again after he had just relaxed, and his expression grew increasingly grim. "What is so important? Knowing he has ill intentions, you still insisted on going."
