Chapter 73 Stinging

Jiang Xu took the skewer he handed over, "I'm watching..." The word 'rose' was hidden in his heart, "I'm watching how you snatch the meat, it's so dashing."

Gu Li: "That's true, but even if you say that, I'll only give you one skewer. Young people still need to be self-reliant."

Xu Lang, sipping beer and eating meat, said, "You're right. Get used to it quickly, and don't become a scapegoat for Lü Chao. I believe in you, Jiang Xu."

Lu Chao and Xu Lang reached for the same skewer. Lu Chao snatched it away and waved it at Xu Lang, saying, "You should train yourself first. I'll use you as a scapegoat today."

Xu Lang: "Keep dreaming."

Jiang Xu ate the meat Gu Li offered. "I can't be Lu Chao's scapegoat, after all," he said with a smile, reaching for the same skewer as Lu Chao and successfully snatching it from Lu Chao's hand, "elegance never goes out of style." His voice was gentle and joking, not like he was teasing anyone.

Not only did Lü Chao fail to snatch the beer, but the topic was brought up again. "..." He helplessly took a swig from the beer bottle and said, "Can't you just leave Elegance alone?"

Gu Li wiped the chili powder off his knuckles with a tissue. "Trust me, you'll get used to it," he said, then picked up a beer bottle and gestured to Jiang Xu. The two clinked bottles together. "Right, Jiang Xu?"

The glass clattered, and Jiang Xu nodded. "That's right."

Lu Chao said, "You two really remind me of that saying." But he didn't say which saying it was.

Jiang Xu offered a way out, asking, "Which sentence?"

Lu Chao nodded in satisfaction and said calmly, "Those who walk different paths cannot make plans together."

Xu Lang raised his glass out of courtesy, saying, "Gongjin is right."

Gu Li nodded. “This sentence applies to both of you.” He pointed at Xie Tao with his finger. “Wolong, your Phoenix Chick is watching you.”

Xu Lang asked, "Hmm?" He looked at Xie Tao.

Xie Tao was eating meat, his movements quick and elegant. He glanced at Xu Lang and said, "Wolong, you've been fooled again."

Seeing that Xu Lang had been fooled, Lü Chao turned to Ji Hai and said, "If I were really on the same level as him, wouldn't that make me seem less important?"

Ji Hai gave Lü Chao a fake smile, then tore off a piece of paper and handed it to Lü Chao, saying, "Wipe it off, your face is covered in chili powder."

Lu Chao took it, wiped it, and then looked at the paper – it was completely clean. "Hmm?"

This time, Ji Hai gave Lü Chao a look that said, "That's exactly right." "You two are definitely on the same level, no doubt about it."

Gu Li turned her head to look at Ji Hai, "That's a very apt statement."

Jiang Xu continued, "It's just a bit hard to hear, and the two parties involved don't look too good."

Gu Li replied casually, "Oh," he glanced at Xu Lang and Lü Chao, "maybe they can't hold their liquor and drank too much."

Xu Lang and Lü Chao spoke at the same time, "You're the one who's drunk!"

On a summer night, barbecue and beer, plus some friends, will eventually result in a messy table and a group of drunken guys.

Gu Li glanced at the table. "I'll buy some apple cider vinegar. We can each have a sip to wake ourselves up."

Lu Chao put his hand on Gu Li's shoulder, "Good lad, your brothers didn't spoil you for nothing."

Gu Li pulled his hand away. Sure enough, Lü Chao was the worst one. He stood up and planned to go to the supermarket.

Jiang Xu also prepared to get up, saying, "I'll go with you."

Gu Li placed her hand on Jiang Xu's shoulder. "No need. You keep an eye on these guys. They'll get scammed one by one."

Xu Lang: "You underestimated us. Except for Lü Chao, we're all perfectly sober, aren't we, Tao?"

Xie Tao nodded. "Yes, I'm awake." His cheeks were slightly flushed.

Gu Li waved her hand. "I'm leaving."

The supermarket wasn't far away; there was one just a few hundred meters down the road. Gu Li went in, randomly picked out a few flavors, bought a few bottles, paid, and came out.

He carried the bag and walked towards the barbecue restaurant. He could vaguely see the lights ahead and even the figures of the people at their table.

Jiang Xu looked up at the sky, a smile playing on his lips as he gazed at the stars. Then, he subconsciously looked in the direction Gu Li had left.

The next moment, his pupils contracted sharply, his heart clenched, and he uncontrollably ran towards Gu Li's direction.

Jiang Xu stood up too abruptly and moved too quickly, causing the chair to fall over with a loud noise, which brought the people at the table back to their senses.

They looked in Jiang Xu's direction and indirectly saw Gu Li's dodging movements. Instantly, they sobered up, their drunkenness evaporated, and only the four of them remained, running rapidly.

As Gu Li was carrying a bag past an alleyway, a knife suddenly lunged at him. The alcohol had slowed his nerves, and even as he realized the situation and tried to dodge, the knife still grazed his neck, the stinging pain making him wince.

The other man reacted much faster than him. Seeing that Gu Li had barely dodged, he reached out and grabbed Gu Li's wrist with such force that Gu Li felt his wrist being tightly gripped.

Gu Li looked toward the alley entrance, where the streetlights barely illuminated a silhouette. He glanced at it twice before speaking, "Liu Mingtang." He tried to remain calm, his free hand reaching for his phone.

The force on his wrist paused for a moment, then increased even more, as if he were making a desperate gamble. Gu Li was conscious, but his body was somewhat numb from drinking, and he was pulled into the darkness.

Just a second before Gu Li was completely swallowed by darkness, he seemed to sense something and looked toward the light. He saw someone running toward him with all their might. The person's black hair was flying, and their urgency was as clear as the fluttering hem of their clothes.

Gu Li thought the lighting in the barbecue restaurant was really good; he could see Jiang Xu's expression so clearly. He could also see the four equally anxious people behind that man.

Then, Gu Li was plunged into complete darkness, where the streetlights could no longer shine in.

Liu Mingtang pinned the man against the wall, the dagger in his hand pressed against Gu Li's neck.

Gu Li felt the blade slicing across his neck as the hand holding the knife trembled. Gu Li said calmly, "Hold it further away. If you shake it a couple more times, you'll be in jail."

Liu Mingtang ignored him and shouted, "Shut up!" But he still moved the knife a little further away, but not much, and Gu Li could still feel the blade occasionally touching her already cut neck.

Liu Mingtang, his voice trembling, said, "Gu Li, did you do all that? You wanted to kill me? If that's the case, if that's the case," he continued, "I'll kill you!"

Gu Li asked calmly, "What is it?"

"What are you pretending for? You're the one who uncovered all the things I did and handed them over to the Liu family. They... they're abandoning me now, abandoning me!" Liu Mingtang roared, his voice filled with suppressed emotion.

"Wait a minute," Gu Li was waiting for an opportunity, an opportunity to disrupt Liu Mingtang's completely focused attention on him. He seemed drunk, his reactions unusually slow. "Let me think about it." But hurry up, friends.

The pain in my neck and the loss of blood became increasingly clear.
