The masked man laughed, "Heh heh heh, you need to reach your destination before them. If you fail, you will remain here to keep company with death."
Jiang Chen said, "Oh," his excitement waning. "Who is Death? It's not you, is it?"
The masked man was taken aback. "How could that be? Death doesn't appear so easily, and you can't find it so easily. Of course, it requires your effort. Hurry up and set off."
Jiang Chen simply sat down on the other chair. "You're panicking, Death."
The masked man forced himself to stay upright, saying, "I already said I'm not it. Are you just being lazy and not wanting to look?" He tried to get up and back away as he spoke.
Jiang Chen hooked his arm around the masked man's shoulder. "Okay, okay, no, no," he sighed. "Then what do we do? Where am I supposed to find him? Can we go together?"
The masked man froze, then said, "Oh, let's go, let's find it."
This was his first Waterloo of the day, and there would be many more to come.
Just then, another door opened. "Hmm?" The person wearing the same mask looked at them with some surprise, and then prepared to go back.
"Don't leave, the next batch is coming soon, you should get ready."
The person who had gone back came back again. "What's going on? Haven't you finished introducing yourself yet?"
The masked man chuckled, "Heh, that's it, I'm leaving."
Jiang Chen was pushed towards another door. "Is that the next Grim Reaper?"
The masked man said coldly, "I don't know, don't ask, just walk properly."
Afterwards, Jiang Chen couldn't help but sigh, "You're really busy!" He witnessed the masked man controlling the progress of the three teams, appearing at appropriate times, and his activities included the following:
Intimidation, explanation, and information delivery.
The voice changer kept switching between different voices, saying, "I'm already so busy, and you're just adding to my burden."
Jiang Chen: "How could that be? I'll spend more time with you. Anyway, we'll be together later, so it doesn't matter when we're together."
The masked man was tired and continued with his work.
As Jiang Xu and Gu Li solved the puzzle, they casually looked around. Then Gu Li sensed something was off. "Are you scared?"
Jiang Xu was intently watching the green will-o'-the-wisp when he was asked a question. He slowly raised his hand and asked, "What's that?" His voice was a little stiff.
The darkness obscured his vision. Gu Li thought Jiang Xu was scared but relatively calm. He found Jiang Xu's drooping hand, grasped his wrist, and then looked over. "It's just a decoration. Just think of it as a lamp with some design. It's okay."
After he finished speaking, he was about to continue walking with Jiang Xu when he lifted his other foot and felt a chill on his ankle, causing Gu Li to stop in his tracks.
Jiang Xu noticed Gu Li's hesitation as she seemed about to take a step, and asked, "What's wrong?"
Gu Li took a breath. "My foot is being held." He then squatted down and pointed to the hand holding his ankle. "They're holding on tight, aren't they? Let go for a bit."
The hand not only didn't loosen but tightened even more, as if in a state of tension, and a husky male voice came out, "I won't let you go. How are you going to repay me for what you owe me? Repay me...!"
Gu Li said, "I gave you a chance, but you wouldn't let go first." After he finished speaking, he grabbed the person's wrist directly, and with his other hand, he used his fingernail to scratch the person's hand.
The hand trembled noticeably. "Damn it!" The man's voice broke down completely. "Hahahaha, no, no, no, it tickles." He couldn't help but let go of Gu Li's ankle.
Gu Li immediately let go, quickly retracting her hand.
Jiang Xu squatted down and witnessed everything. "Where did you learn these tricks from? They don't do any harm, but they look quite torturous."
Gu Li chuckled softly and clapped her hands. "Actually, it's alright. Why don't you give it a try? He's exaggerating too much."
Jiang Xu: "I refuse."
Gu Li: "It's a free trial, it would be such a shame to miss it. You won't regret trying it."
Jiang Xu thought for a moment and said, "No."
Gu Li: "You're ticklish? You can't even handle something this small? I look down on you."
Jiang Xu, "Your attempt to provoke me is too obvious."
Gu Li: "It's okay. Whether it works or not, I'll accept it if it does."
Jiang Xu stretched out his hand to block Gu Li's way, "Since it's such a small matter, I can definitely handle it. Take back your disdain."
“Hey,” Gu Li grasped Jiang Xu’s wrist, his grip becoming even gentler, “I declare that you are the person I respect the most.”
Jiang Xu felt a slight itch spreading across his skin, a sensation that seemed to seep into his flesh. He felt a chill run through him, and his fingers involuntarily clenched.
Jiang Xu almost wanted to pull his hand away, but he restrained himself.
Gu Li withdrew his hand, squeezing Jiang Xu's wrist. "See, this isn't working on you anymore." He completely withdrew his hand. "It just so happens that the person is ticklish."
In the darkness, Jiang Xu put his hand behind his back and touched the skin that had been touched with his other hand, trying to suppress the slight electric shock. "Yes, that's how it is."
Darkness is both concealment and indulgence.
The two continued walking. They had already contacted the other two teams by communicating remotely, which was both strange and reasonable.
After they resolved a few minor issues, they had nothing more to discuss. The two had been gone for some time and were nearing the final moment.
Inside the Gate of Life and Death, everything on the left is red, while everything on the right is green. A door appears ahead, with red and green fluorescent colors intertwined on it, creating an atmosphere of mystery.
Gu Li: "It seems it's almost over. Let's finish what we started. Push it, Jiang Xu."
Jiang Xu: "Let's go, you scared me to death."
Gu Li: "This time, your acting isn't as good as when you were pointing at the will-o'-the-wisp."
Jiang Chen was engrossed in watching when he was pushed along again. "Hey, hey, we're about to get to the crucial part. Let's finish watching before we go."
The masked man was used to explaining, "We're going to the top floor of the palace. They'll meet up soon, or we'll be exposed."
Jiang Chen was reluctantly pushed away.
Jiang Xu pushed open the door, revealing a completely dark room with will-o'-the-wisps burning on the walls, half red and half green. As the two were observing, the black chair placed behind the black table suddenly spun around.
The person who turned around was wrapped in a black cloak, completely obscuring their face.
"Who has broken into my magic house!"
Gu Li pointed to the will-o'-the-wisps embedded in the wall and said to Jiang Xu, "The style is really consistent."
Jiang Xu nodded, "It won't feel out of place."
The witch's voice, now replaced by a little girl's voice, repeated, "Who has broken into my magic house!"
Gu Li looked at the person behind the table, "You're the one who broke into our haunted house."
"No, no! This is my magic house," the loli voice said, sounding like she was being unreasonable. "Since you've trespassed, you have to accept my challenge."
