The sky breaks at dawn, and the clouds rise and fall.
A group of women were washing clothes by the stream in Dashi Village.
Xu Cuifen, while washing the clothes, boasted with a hint of annoyance:
"Do you think the washing machines in the city can wash clothes properly? Can my daughter's nanny take good care of her?"
In the past few days, many villagers have been brainwashed and completely convinced by Xu Cuifen's confident statements. Among them, Aunt Liu said happily:
"I told you Jiaojiao was lucky, and look, it came true. But luckily, Zhaoye didn't succeed back then."
Otherwise, wouldn't that jeopardize Jiaojiao's future? But Cuifen, next time you talk to Jiaojiao on the phone, please make arrangements for my son as soon as possible."
Xu Cuifen laughed even more heartily:
"It's just about reducing your son's sentence, right? My son-in-law does have connections, but I can only put in a word for you. He's so busy, I can't say for sure if he'll have time to deal with this."
Aunt Liu's son was convicted of theft and sentenced to one year in prison. Yesterday, she heard rumors in the village that Wen Jiaojiao was being pursued by a rich man in the big city, so she went to Xu Cuifen for help.
She held it up and said, "They're determined to marry no one but your Jiaojiao, so it's just a matter of Jiaojiao saying a word."
Wu Ying was extremely annoyed by this, and while secretly rubbing the clothes, she said in a harsh voice:
"All you do is brag. If you come back looking pathetic, don't blame me for standing at the door laughing."
Aunt Liu was the first to complain:
"Wu Ying, I'm not trying to be mean, but Jiaojiao has found a good boyfriend, you should be happy."
After all, that would eliminate Zhao Ye's chance, but it would give your nieces and nephews a chance, wouldn't it?
Wu Ying knew she was implying that Wu Ying had recommended several of her nieces and nephews to Wen Zhaoye at once.
Her face darkened, and she intensified her washing efforts: "I just wanted to see how your son would get out and you two would end up fighting."
Another person asked curiously, "By the way, Cuifen, how did your Jiaojiao meet that boss?"
Xu Cuifen's smile never stopped as she said:
"Isn't he going to discuss business with his brother? You know, my Jiaojiao has been smart since she was little, so we must have met at some job market."
Those who believed her all had something in mind. Although Xu Cuifen didn't agree outright, she promised to say a few good words for them.
Suddenly, Shuanzi, who was not far away, waved and said, "Aunt Cuifen, your Jiaojiao is calling."
As soon as he finished speaking, the group of people who wanted something from him spoke up one after another: "Cuifen, you promised to find my daughter a job where she can count money while lying down, don't forget that."
"And then there's my family, about helping my son find a girl from a big city."
"And there's the matter of my family borrowing money."
"…………"
Everyone made their requests one after another, but Xu Cuifen completely ignored them.
Afraid of missing Wen Jiaojiao's call if she was too late, she ran over and picked up the phone without taking a breath:
“Daughter, what’s wrong? Are you getting along with your son-in-law? Let me tell you, this time Mom really won’t stop you. You should hurry up and get married to him. Mom has already bought your dowry these past few days.”
She was so tired she could hardly breathe, but she was afraid of being a moment too late and not expressing herself clearly, so she spoke very quickly.
On the other end of the phone, Wen Jiaojiao and Wen Zhaoye thought the term "son-in-law" referred to Wen Zhaoye, and they exchanged a glance.
Before I could even speak, Xu Cuifen's voice came through the phone again: "Luckily, when Mom drugged your brother, you were careful and ran back early the next day, otherwise..."
Wen Jiaojiao's breath hitched for a second. Before she could finish speaking, she frantically raised her hand and covered the phone tightly to hear the sound.
Damn it, I probably won't be able to get away with not sleeping with him tonight.
For some reason, Wen Zhaoye felt a surge of joy. His handsome face held a roguish charm as he leaned against the phone booth, glancing at her with a slight smile as he said:
"Was it really you that night? Then why did you run away? You made me think someone else had taken advantage of me. If you had said it was you earlier, I would have married you a long time ago."
Wen Jiaojiao suddenly hesitated to meet his playful, chuckling gaze. She stiffened and stammered:
"Are you scared?" Please, what I'm scared of is you marrying me.
Recalling the feelings of that night, Wen Zhaoye's handsome face suddenly flushed. He awkwardly turned his head away from her, a slight smile playing on his lips as he said:
"Answer the phone quickly, we can talk about this when we get home."
Wen Jiaojiao removed her hand from the phone, and suddenly a voice came from the other end:
"Honey, I forgot to ask, is the person you're marrying a young man or an old man?"
Don't worry, just tell Mom. She's more open-minded now.
You can find someone who's sixty years old, it doesn't matter. The older they are, the earlier they die, and the sooner you can inherit their estate.
Finding a man is really just a matter of two things: either you're after his money or he's after her; you have to have at least one of them.
Wen Jiaojiao was stunned, and suddenly raised her voice:
"No, Mom, what are you saying? I don't understand."
Xu Cuifen said confidently, "Oh dear, it seems that old bastard hasn't told you the truth yet."
But Mom has been through this before; she doesn't even need to look to know that for him to offer you such a good job, he must like you.
Wen Jiaojiao immediately understood and anxiously explained:
"No, that's not true. Don't joke around. Please don't spread rumors in the village."
Xu Cuifen took it as a joke and continued:
"Now the whole village knows you're being pursued by a big boss who owns factories all over the country."
Many people have asked Mom for favors, but she hasn't directly agreed to any of them, so don't be shy.
Wen Jiaojiao felt utterly dejected. With a look of utter despair, she said:
"Mom, if you haven't gone through menopause yet, why don't you have another one? Even if you have, you and Dad should try your best. Maybe a miracle will happen."
