Chapter 67. The fragrance she smells every day tempts me to commit crimes. How could such an outrageous thing be brought up?

Wen Zhaoye stood by the bed, his handsome face flushed even more deeply. He awkwardly raised his hand to rub the stray hairs at the back of his head, and said in an unnatural voice:

"Aren't you hot like this?"

Wen Jiaojiao said in a muffled voice:

"Fix the door quickly."

Wen Zhaoye turned around, and a patch of dust was imprinted on the back of his clothes, which stood out against the white fabric.

He lifted the door panel and discovered that the edges of the hinges were already rotten. He explained:

"This was taken from the old house by your mother because she didn't want to spend the money. It's probably been there for almost twenty years. It broke completely when I leaned against it today, and I have to find someone to make a new one."

Wen Jiaojiao, huddled under the thin blanket, pursed her lips and said embarrassedly, "What do we do now?"

Wen Zhaoye leaned the door against the wall, looked around the room, and said, "We can only move this curtain between us to the door for now."

Hearing the noise, Xu Cuifen and her group rushed in that direction. As soon as they reached the courtyard, they shouted:

"Honey, what's wrong? We heard you scream from far away. Did something bite you?"

Wen Zhaoye's dark eyes widened in surprise. He stopped pulling at the curtain and stood in front of the door, saying:

"It's nothing, she just fell and can't see anyone right now."

"Move aside, I've come to check on my daughter. It just so happens that Zhang Laosan is here. He's skilled in massage and correction techniques, so if she falls and hurts her foot again, he can treat her on the spot."

The room was a mess, filled with noise and anxiety.

Wen Jiaojiao's face broke into a wide grin with surprise. She hurriedly pulled the thin blanket over herself, wrapping herself up like a caterpillar, and said:

"Don't come in, I'm about to take a shower and I'm not dressed yet."

Everyone paused, and one of the women spoke up:

"Oh, you're sharing a room with Zhaoye, and you've already taken off your clothes and gone to bed without even taking a shower? And what a coincidence that the door is broken, and Zhaoye is the one fixing it."

Wen Jiaojiao understood the hidden meaning in his words, which was roughly: you deliberately broke the door.

He took off his clothes and lay on the bed, using the excuse of asking Wen Zhaoye to repair the door to try to do this to him.

She looked utterly speechless, sighed, and said, "Get out now, I don't have time to curse you weirdos."

Wen Zhaoye glared at the woman, equally displeased, and said:

"She was just about to take a shower when she noticed the door was about to break. She was worried it would tip over while she was showering, so she asked me to fix it. In the future, don't spread rumors about things you didn't see with your own eyes."

Xu Cuifen realized what was happening and pushed them outside. The two women were arguing in the courtyard when suddenly, a loud roar came from behind them:

"Xu Cuifen, how can you do this? You asked me to find a partner for your daughter, and after I've been busy for days, I've abandoned all the farm work to accompany you to the county town for matchmaking."

You ordered me a plate of smashed cucumber, ate most of it yourself, and then ran off without paying!

And your daughter, she didn't want to go through with the relationship, yet she ordered over a hundred yuan worth of food.

"They didn't have that much money on them, and your daughter ran away, causing them to be beaten and hospitalized. Aren't you ruining my reputation?"

Aunt Pang had just arrived home from the county town at this hour. When she saw Xu Cuifen, she was furious and couldn't help but start cursing.

The people trying to break up the fight looked disgusted; these days, nobody's rich.

A hundred yuan is the harvest from several acres of land before deducting costs. To be honest, if my own son were to marry someone like that, I would be extremely worried.

After hearing Wen Jiaojiao's account of what happened that afternoon, Xu Cuifen confidently shouted and cursed:

"You didn't even tell me who this guy you introduced was. He ordered all the food himself, just so my daughter would pay for it."

She barely exchanged a few words before asking for this and that. It's like she's married into my family! If she hadn't run away, I would have stabbed her with a fork and run away with her.

Besides, I asked you to be my matchmaker, and I even gave you a basket of eggs in return—enough to offset that half-plate of rotten cucumbers!

Don't let me hear anything bad about my daughter again. She's in fifth grade!

Look around the village from east to west, how many people can get into fifth grade on their own merit like my daughter?

"Your daughter, Da Mei, has been held back in third grade, and I've never made fun of her about it."

"My daughter, Da Mei, married a city guy. I haven't dared to tell anyone that your daughter is mentally ill, otherwise I would have let you go with him. Taking care of his family would be cheap."

Everyone knows your daughter doesn't wipe her bottom after pooping these days, right? This time, someone caught her red-handed.

"And you still have to pay for that plate of cucumbers; you have to pay today whether you want to or not."

Aunt Pang was furious. She didn't care if others were beaten or cheated, but she was determined to get the money back for that plate of cucumbers. She said fiercely.

Wen Zhaoye, with the curtain drawn, understood that simply arguing wouldn't completely silence everyone, and he already had a plan in mind.

However, upon hearing what Aunt Pang said, he still frowned and glanced at the person on the bed:

Who saw it?

She smells so good every day that it tempts me to commit crimes. How could such an outrageous thing be brought up?
