Chapter 94 Wen Jiaojiao works at a restaurant

Inside the hotel, Wen Jiaojiao picked out the clothes belonging to Wen Zhaoye from her suitcase.

She then left twenty yuan tucked inside his clothes and changed out of her conspicuous red dress.

The receptionist was sitting at the counter, lost in thought, when she suddenly saw Wen Jiaojiao carrying a suitcase and walking out. Startled, she stood up and exclaimed:

"Hey, wait a minute, your brother told me to keep an eye on you."

Wen Jiaojiao lied without batting an eye:

"Actually, he's not my brother, he's my boyfriend, but I'm not going to stay with him, so I have to run away. If you try to stop me, you'll be hurting me."

The receptionist didn't believe it. After all, most of the guests here were wealthy, and given Wen Zhaoye's outstanding appearance, it was unlikely any woman would refuse to be with him.

She said with a displeased look, "Wait a minute, let me check the ledger to see if you two are actually siblings at your addresses."

Wen Jiaojiao knew that the address on the document was recorded on it, and once she saw it, she was definitely doomed.

Her face darkened, and as the receptionist bent down to retrieve the ledger, she took off running, declaring with a flourish:

"You little brat, you actually think you can control me?"

The receptionist paused, anxiously chasing after the door, but considering her work, she ultimately didn't follow, and could only shout loudly:

"Hey, your brother said you're crazy and doesn't want you to run around. Aren't you making things difficult for me? Come back right now."

Sure enough, my reputation is bad, and Wen Zhaoye has done a lot of work to fix it.

Wen Jiaojiao struggled to run forward with her suitcase. After complaining, she felt a vague sense of worry about the future.

The streets were dotted with people, and cars weaved among bicycles and motorcycles, attracting some attention.

After running for a long time, Wen Jiaojiao stopped, panting heavily. All around her, people moved swiftly, each with their own direction.

She, however, gazed around aimlessly, like an outsider who had hastily infiltrated this world.

She felt lost and uncertain about the future, and for the first time ever, a sense of fear and loneliness welled up inside her.

Although she was surrounded by an era of wealth and privilege, in reality she was just a spoiled rich kid who lived a life of idleness and had no special skills. Her only bit of cleverness seemed to be overtaken by fear at this moment.

People around her kept glancing at her. Wen Jiaojiao steeled herself and asked at several shops, but all of them were fully staffed.

She leaned against the wall, her long eyelashes slightly lowered, her head drooping forlornly, trying to console herself:

According to the plot of the novel, a benefactor would most likely appear at this point.

Then, based on this premise, I will create brilliance. I'll wait a bit longer. What others have, I will definitely have too. Maybe I'll meet my benefactor soon.

In the restaurant just a wall away, Li Youqin was clearing tables. She glanced at Wen Jiaojiao's figure through the window and said:

"Honey, look, there's someone over there."

Wang Hai paused in his calculations, glanced over leisurely, and walked out the door, saying, "Little girl, what are you doing here?"

Upon hearing this, Wen Jiaojiao suddenly looked up. Looking at the man's honest and simple face, a glimmer of light appeared in her eyes as she said:

"Has my benefactor appeared so quickly?"

Seeing her rambling nonsense, Wang Hai's expression changed drastically, and he said impatiently:

"Get out of here now. If you're not going to eat, don't linger at our door. It's affecting our business."

Wen Jiaojiao's face stiffened. Shaking off the image of herself about to embark on a golden path to becoming a domineering CEO, she silently picked up her suitcase and moved to a nearby shop.

Sure enough, it's impossible for a dramatic heroine like me to encounter a benefactor. But never mind, I'll go borrow a phone first so Xu Cuifen can contact her daughter.

She had just turned to leave when Li Youqin put down the rag, gave Wang Hai a reproachful look, and said:

"Why are you being so fierce? You're scaring that little girl again."

Wen Jiaojiao, feeling utterly hopeless, saw everyone as a benefactor. She paused, a flicker of hope returning to her eyes as she said:

"Do you need any staff here? I'm just looking for a job."

Two years ago, encouraged by national policies, Li Youqin and her husband opened this restaurant. The couple has been running it together ever since, but recently, as business has improved, they've started planning to hire more staff.

She stepped forward and looked her up and down, asking, "Do you have an ID card and a letter of introduction?"

Wen Jiaojiao recalled many female protagonists in novels who, when encountering difficulties outside, relied on evoking the compassion of others to overcome their obstacles.

She imitated him, feigning difficulty, and made up a story:

"To be honest, my family wants to marry me off to a 60-year-old bachelor. I ran away by myself without taking anything with me, and I haven't slept for a day and a night."

"We dare not accept that. What if they come knocking on our door? Wouldn't that just be a waste of time and disrupt our business?"

Restaurants are small businesses, and Wang Hai, fearing he might get into trouble, waved his hand and said.

Wen Jiaojiao's face fell: "..." As expected, novels are all lies. How can so many good things fall into your lap in the blink of an eye?

Li Youqin's mind raced slightly. She reached out to stop Wang Hai from shooing her away, and as Wen Jiaojiao turned to leave, she spoke:

"We can let you come to work here, but we get off work from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., 12 hours a day, with food and lodging provided, and it costs eight yuan a month."

Upon hearing such outrageous working conditions, Wen Jiaojiao froze, her face turning extremely pale.

Damn it, I treat you like a VIP, but you treat me like an animal?

Seeing that she remained silent, Li Youqin, convinced that she had nowhere to go, revealed a shrewd smile and continued her deception:

"I know the salary is a bit low, but we have no choice. We're worried that your family might come knocking or the police might investigate, which would disrupt our business."

Besides, we're only busy around noon and in the evening; the rest of the time we just wash dishes and mop the floor.

Wen Jiaojiao's head was spinning, but considering she didn't even have a place to stay tonight, she nodded with difficulty and said:

"Okay." I can stay here for now and then slowly switch to other jobs. On the road to becoming a god, there will always be one or two setbacks.

Wang Hai also thought it was a good deal, and he ordered without any hesitation, "Then go wipe the tables that the previous few people finished eating and mop the floor. It will be the peak time for people to arrive later."
