Upon hearing the last few words, Wen Jiaojiao's expression stiffened slightly, and she turned to look at her with a forced smile, saying:
"If you're not good at speaking, you don't actually need to force a compliment."
The woman at the front desk smiled awkwardly and lowered her head to avoid her gaze.
Inside the room, the two sat quietly on sofa chairs, separated by a round coffee table.
Wen Zhaoye sorted out his thoughts and broke the silence:
"My upbringing has made it difficult for me to accept the fact that my partner has children."
Wen Jiaojiao paused as she unwrapped the sesame candy, then resumed, saying perfunctorily, though she didn't understand why:
"Um."
Seeing that she didn't react much, Wen Zhaoye decided to skip the beating around the bush and went straight to the point: "But I also know that you like me very much."
"Huh???" Wen Jiaojiao's eyes widened suddenly as she stared at him in disbelief.
Wen Zhaoye assumed she was just delirious with excitement. He pursed his lips, his handsome face burning as he looked at her and repeated:
"I said, since you like me so much, I'll agree to be with you."
"But if you have children in the future and they come looking for you again, as long as you prioritize our children in any situation, I'll pay to raise them for Xu Dajun."
Wen Jiaojiao gasped, her mind racing, trying to figure out where she had gone wrong that had caused such a deep misunderstanding.
She couldn't understand it and thought he was joking. Unsure, she said, "No, don't joke with me. Think about it again. Are you talking about me?"
Wen Zhaoye's eyes were upturned at the corners, and he looked at her with doting eyes, saying:
"You're quite the actor. Okay, I know you're afraid of affecting me, so you've been secretly liking me all this time, and you might even be planning to hide your feelings for the rest of your life."
So from now on, you're not allowed to mention anything like "I don't like you," "break up," or "divorce" to me, and you're not allowed to do anything that would make me dislike you.
Otherwise, I'll break your legs and hire someone to take care of you for the rest of your life. Anyway, you should like that kind of life, and it'll save you from running around aimlessly. I mean what I say.
Wen Zhaoye recalled how Wen Jiaojiao pretended to have injured her foot to avoid being lazy, and how she was still enjoying lying in bed despite her back pain, unwilling to get out of bed. He immediately concluded that she liked that kind of life of lying flat.
Wen Jiaojiao's face flushed red and then turned pale; she felt like crying but had no tears left to shed.
I couldn't tell if he was confessing his feelings or making a veiled threat.
Seeing that she remained silent, Wen Zhaoye raised his hand and nudged her slender hand resting on the coffee table, his voice unnatural as he said:
"I know what you're thinking, so now it's your turn."
Wen Jiaojiao's already confused mind became even more muddled. Her thin lips trembled slightly, and she stared blankly at Wen Zhaoye.
All the curses and swears in his heart, especially considering the possibility of having his legs broken, had to be buried deep inside. His voice trembled slightly as he said:
"I...I don't know what to do anymore."
Seeing that she wasn't getting it, Wen Zhaoye said rather helplessly:
"You need me to teach you these things? Just confess to me already! Tell me when you started liking me, what you like about me, so I can keep it up."
Life is so long, I need to have at least one thing that can consistently attract you, otherwise our relationship will easily run into problems later.
Just because you can break people's legs, anyone would be completely devoted to you.
Wen Jiaojiao felt indescribable emotions. She grabbed the clothes from the table and tore them apart with her bare hands in a fit of rage, gritting her teeth as she said:
"I just like that you have a fully developed brain and you talk big."
Wen Zhaoye grabbed his clothes, a smile as bright as stars appearing in his eyes, and said:
"I know you're upset, but you can't take it out on things. Fine, I'll let you kiss me, okay?"
But you can only kiss me once, and it has to be very light. I'm planning to take you out this afternoon, and people will laugh at us if we leave a kiss mark."
As he spoke, his face grew redder and redder, and his voice gradually became softer, as if he were very embarrassed.
