Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Formal employment contract × Marriage agreement √

Dark clouds loom overhead; a storm is brewing.

According to meteorological forecasts, the city will experience a strong typhoon in the near future. To ensure everyone's safety, Xu Que's company has decided that all employees will work from home starting tomorrow.

The last day of work before the typhoon was also the last day of work before Xu was officially hired.

Her mood was not affected by the bad weather at all; she was all smiles early in the morning, looking forward to her permanent contract.

"Xu Que, Sister Liu wants you to come into her office."

Hearing her colleague's words, Xu smiled even more broadly, looking as if good news had arrived.

"Okay, I'm going right now!"

Sister Liu is her immediate supervisor and has always taken good care of her since she joined the company. Now that she's being called into the office, she doesn't need to think too much; she must be discussing her promotion to a permanent position with her!

Her monthly salary can finally increase from 3,200 to 4,500. Most importantly, after becoming a full-time employee, she will also receive performance bonuses and various subsidies.

Xu, who had suddenly become "rich" from a poor background, decided to reward herself with a hot pot meal after signing the contract. Even before signing the formal employment contract, she was already imagining how to spend her salary.

Before going in, Xu glanced out the window.

Lightning flashed across the distant horizon, and thunder rumbled intermittently in the air. Dark, heavy clouds were gathering overhead.

I wonder if hot pot restaurants will be open in this kind of weather?

Lost in thought, Xu arrived at the office door and knocked with great excitement.

"Enter."

Xu pushed open the door and saw his boss standing to the side in the empty office, showing a rare respectful expression.

At Sister Liu's desk sat a young woman, her head bowed as she intently reviewed the documents in her hands, her excessively long, silky hair obscuring most of her face.

Xu had no recollection of her and didn't look at her much. He turned his gaze back to Sister Liu, looking at her hopefully.

At that moment, all she could think about was her permanent employment contract.

Xu saw that her usually stern boss smiled at her for the first time.

"Little Xu, your good days are coming."

Xu nodded vigorously in agreement, thinking to herself that her good days would begin after she was officially hired. She immediately expressed her positive work attitude to her supervisor.

"Thank you for the company's support and guidance. I will continue to work hard in the future!"

After saying that, she expected Sister Liu to produce the contract, but after waiting for a long time, Sister Liu did not make any move.

The thunder outside the window paused briefly, and the room fell silent for a moment.

Sister Liu remained silent, only smiling at her, a smile that made Xu feel uneasy.

Hey boss, stop laughing! Can you give me a straight answer about whether I can be officially hired? It's about my quality of life after I pay my rent.

Xu took the initiative to ask, "Sister Liu, you're looking for me...?"

Sister Liu then remembered the important matter.

"It's not me looking for you, it's President Jiang looking for you."

Sister Liu cleared her throat and introduced Xu with a smile: "This is our company's current CEO—"

"—Ms. Jiang Fengyi"

Xu followed the gaze.

Jiang Fengyi also looked up at that moment.

Xu had been with the company for half a year, and this was the first time she had met the person in charge of her company.

The overly young omega in front of me is Jiang Fengyi.

Her beauty, previously hidden by her dark hair, was now fully revealed, immediately attracting the attention of those around her.

The lightning, which had paused for a moment, suddenly ripped across the sky, tearing a hole in the gloomy heavens, and the thunder caught up a second later.

A flash of white light swept across Jiang Fengyi's delicate features, illuminating the small mole below her eyelid, hidden in the shadow of her lashes, appearing and disappearing.

It landed precisely on the center of the area below her left eye, as if by magic, drawing Xu Que's gaze and captivating her for a moment.

Like a drop of ink falling on a landscape painting, it adds a touch of novelty to the traditional and conservative scroll.

Rumble rumble—

Jiang Fengyi heard thunder resounding through the sky.

Thump thump—

Xu heard his own heartbeat was louder than thunder.

"I want to marry you."

A cool, clear voice rang out in the empty room, accompanied by the thunder outside the window, striking Xu Que's heart heavily.

Wh...what?!

Xu stood frozen in place, as if struck by lightning outside the window, too shocked to speak.

Jiang Fengyi, sitting at her desk, pushed the paper contract in front of Xu Que.

A flash of lightning outside the window highlighted the four large characters "Marriage Agreement" on the contract, their cold, black Song typeface forcibly entering Xu Que's eyes.

Xu froze, his eyes widening in shock.

The contract she was expecting to become a permanent employment contract turned into a marriage agreement!

"This...this..."

What's going on?

Xu wanted to ask for clarification, but when his gaze returned to Jiang Fengyi, he couldn't recall any of the words he had prepared, and was completely speechless with admiration.

Sister Liu's voice woke Xu from his daze.

What are you hesitating for, kid?

"This is such a wonderful thing!" Sister Liu's eyes were burning with excitement, wishing she could take her place, afraid that Xu might miss this opportunity, and she kept urging him on.

"Sign your name, and you'll be set for life!"

Jiang Fengyi stated her purpose in the simplest terms: "You take a look first, I hope to sign it before I leave work."

"Of course, you can add any other requirements you may have."

She continued to speak, but did not look up, remaining focused on the work in her hands.

They don't seem to care much about marriage, nor are they curious about their future spouse.

Xu boldly examined the person in front of him. The person's skin was so white it was almost transparent, and the lips were a very light, unhealthy pale pink.

Her wrists, which were too thin from typing, made Xu wonder if she would be blown away by a typhoon as soon as she stepped out of the company.

She was overly distant and indifferent. Even when discussing marriage with Xu, she was too lazy to say much and seemed uninterested in anything.

As if sensing that Xu Que had been spying on her for a long time, Jiang Fengyi frowned slightly, stopped typing, and looked back at Xu Que.

"Ahem...ahem, but this is the first time we've ever met..."

"Don't be so quick to refuse, child," Sister Liu quickly interrupted her. "Take a look at the contents of the agreement first."

Sister Liu was a reliable boss, and even though Xu thought the whole thing was absurd, he still followed Sister Liu's instructions and opened the marriage agreement in front of him.

Her slender fingers flipped through the pages in order, initially just to appease Sister Liu, but when Xu saw the salary she could receive, her hand immediately stopped.

I couldn't help but count the zeros after the numbers.

Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands...

You mean, I can get so many benefits by marrying you!

This wasn't just a windfall; it was like falling into a whole sweet cake, leaving me momentarily dizzy with joy.

A huge surprise came, but Xu was dumbfounded.

"Could this be a hallucination caused by being struck by lightning?"

After muttering to himself, Xu pinched himself hard.

"Hiss~"

It hurts!

Hearing the noise, Jiang Fengyi finally looked up from her work. She first glanced at Xu Que with a puzzled look, then looked at Sister Liu with a questioning look in her eyes.

Is this really the best among this batch of interns? She doesn't seem to be very bright.

Xu, however, failed to notice the exchange of glances between the two and asked incredulously.

"Are they really giving that much money?"

Jiang Fengyi gave an affirmative answer: "Yes, the money will arrive on time on the first of every month."

Xu's voice involuntarily turned shrill: "Still pay me every month!"

"Of course, all you need to do is have a fake marriage with me, play the role of a good partner in front of my family, and your salary will be deposited into your account on time every month."

"The term will be at most three years. After three years, we will 'part ways peacefully' and it won't delay your search for a partner."

Jiang Fengyi continued to offer her incentives: "If you perform well, I will give you an extra bonus."

"I'll sign it, I'll sign it right now!"

Even without bonuses, this salary is enough to buy a house in the best location in the city; I really can't think of a reason to refuse.

Xu immediately grabbed the pen on the table and signed her name at the fastest speed she had ever done, afraid that if she was even a second too slow, the wealth would slip through her fingers.

Jiang Fengyi glanced at the time on the screen; there was still half an hour until she got off work.

She got up, closed her laptop, and finished her work for the day ahead of schedule. In a good mood, she packed her things and went home.

As she stepped into the elevator, she realized she had a tail following her.

Why are you following me?

Outside the elevator door,

Xu pressed the elevator door open button, her eyes darting away, still not used to looking directly at the other person's face.

"The marriage agreement states that we need to get to know each other quickly and create the atmosphere of having been in a relationship for many years."

The agreement was drafted by a lawyer, and Jiang Fengyi only glanced at it briefly, but it seemed that there was such a clause.

"Come in, let's eat now."

With Jiang Fengyi's approval, Xu then stepped into the elevator.

Inside the enclosed space, the two stood side by side, neither of them speaking, like two complete strangers sharing an elevator.

The elevator slowly descended.

Realizing the atmosphere was too awkward, Xu took the initiative to bring up a topic.

What are we having for dinner?

Jiang Fengyi asked, "Do you have any dietary restrictions?"

"No, I eat everything." Out of politeness and to understand the other person's intentions, Xu asked in return, "And you, is there anything you don't eat?"

Jiang Fengyi thought about it carefully and realized that she liked all the meals cooked by the housekeeper at home.

So she replied earnestly, "I'm not a picky eater."

Jiang Fengyi usually eats food prepared by her aunt or a private chef, so she didn't know what kind of restaurants were near the company and left the choice of dinner to Xu Que.

"What do you usually like to eat? You can take me to try them. We need to get to know each other's tastes."

Xu had been thinking about it all day, and without hesitation, she blurted out, "Then let's go eat hot pot!"

Realizing her mistake as soon as she said it, she hesitated and asked, "You...you eat hot pot?"

"I told you I'm not a picky eater."

Xu was completely relieved.

However, both of them underestimated the destructive power of the typhoon. When they arrived at the commercial street, the hot pot restaurant was already closed, with notices posted saying it would not reopen until after the typhoon.

Xu slapped his forehead: "I received the 'Five Suspensions' notice before, but I forgot about it."

Due to the typhoon's landfall, the city has fully implemented the "five suspensions" (suspension of classes, work, production, transportation, and business), and almost all restaurants have closed down.

Feeling bad, she said, "How about next time..."

"Come to my house for dinner."

Her housekeeper is a good cook, and the family also bought a lot of ingredients in advance because of the typhoon.

Jiang Fengyi had read Xu Que's information; she was an orphan who grew up in an orphanage and lived alone after adulthood. She lived alone at home, so she probably hadn't prepared any food.

If there is no food at home for two or three days after a typhoon passes, then you will really go hungry.

Jiang Fengyi simply said, "Move in with me. You can eat with me during the days when the typhoon makes landfall."

"Isn't this a bad idea?"

Xu blushed and asked shyly.

"Isn't it too fast to move in together on the first day we met?"
