Chapter 48

Chapter 48

A little drink

The overhead lamps cast a warm, orange glow, like melting honey, and a sweet aroma permeated the space.

Jiang Fengyi felt refreshed after her bath. Strands of her hair, still damp with moisture, hung down, with glistening water droplets trembling at the tips, seemingly about to fall.

Xu instinctively reached out, wanting to catch the water droplets from Jiang Fengyi's hair.

Her actions went unnoticed by Jiang Fengyi, whose attention was entirely focused on the dining table.

Aside from the food on the table, there were several scented candles on the table, their soft glow flickering in front of her.

Next to the aromatherapy diffuser is a freshly arranged bouquet, which makes it easy to tell that the florist is a novice. The flowers in the narrow bottle are too full, without any hierarchy, and the flowers are too close together.

However, the color scheme was just right, which to some extent masked the flaws and made people pay more attention to the bouquet itself.

The incense burned and released a delicate floral fragrance. Jiang Fengyi took a closer sniff and found that the scent of the incense was so similar to her pheromones.

She looked up at Xu Que, who seemed to know what she wanted to ask and answered before she could speak: "I also searched for a long time before I found this fragrance."

Xu wasn't trying to take credit: "I was afraid other scented oils would mask your scent." The last part turned into a soft mutter, "What kind of home would it be without your scent?"

Water droplets from the ends of Jiang Fengyi's hair splashed as she looked up, leaving a few more drops of moisture on Xu's fingertips. She rubbed them between her fingers, and the dampness spread across her palm.

The candlelight flickered, illuminating Jiang Fengyi's light brown pupils.

The bathroom experience had drained Jiang Fengyi of her energy, leaving her with only a small portion of her thoughts on the romance that Xu had meticulously arranged.

They were paying more attention to the food in front of them.

She was hungry.

Xu glanced at the bouquet several times, wondering if he had hidden his gift too well, so that Jiang Fengyi hadn't noticed it yet.

Jiang Fengyi had already raised her knife and fork to the plate. Her long-empty stomach was finally comforted by the food, and her exhausted strength gradually returned.

Xu stood there blankly in front of her, his gaze repeatedly drifting to the less-than-perfect flower arrangement.

Jiang Fengyi pondered for a moment, then praised, "This bouquet is very special. It must have taken a lot of thought to arrange it. I really like it."

Seeing that she finally spared a glance for the bouquet, Xu's eyes lit up, hoping that Jiang Fengyi would take a closer look and discover the surprise hidden under the branches and leaves.

What's that over there?

I asked...I finally asked...but I asked the wrong question, it went off-topic?

"beside?"

Xu was also curious about what was next to her that dared to steal the spotlight from her gift, so she turned her head to look.

That was the white wine she had specially prepared for this date.

It had been refrigerated all day and was only taken out when Xu came home. The transparent bottle was covered with a layer of water droplets, and cold white vapor was still wafting out.

As time passed, the condensed water droplets grew larger and larger, until the smooth glass could no longer bear their weight, and the large water droplets meandered down the bottle.

A small patch of the tablecloth underneath was damp.

Xu stared at the water stain: "That's the low-alcohol white wine that everyone recommends on Little Green Book."

"Drinking it before bed can help you sleep."

There is another reason that Xu did not mention: this wine is also suitable for couples to enjoy together.

"Low prescription?"

Jiang Fengyi asked Xu Que for confirmation, and after receiving a positive reply, she picked up the empty wine glass on the table: "I'd like to try it."

She rarely drinks alcohol, but once she gained the upper hand, no one dared to urge her to drink. Everyone at the table wisely followed her lead and drank beverages instead.

Therefore, Jiang Fengyi hardly drinks alcohol.

Right now, she was staring at the bottle of white wine that exuded a chill, a hint of interest in her eyes.

The pale golden liquid trickled out, flowing down the side of the glass and into the stemmed glass, along with a cool sensation that ignored the transparent glass as it pressed against Jiang Fengyi's hand.

Xu explained, "It tastes better chilled."

"Have you had it?"

“No,” Xu poured Jiang Fengyi a small half-cup of water, “but I did my homework beforehand.”

Jiang Fengyi gently shook the glass, and a ring of tiny bubbles rose up. She was so curious about the shimmering liquid in the glass that she couldn't resist taking a small sip.

The initial taste is a refreshing fruity aroma of grapefruit and passion fruit, followed by a slight sourness on the sides of the tongue. Jiang Fengyi didn't find it offensive; instead, the fresh floral and fruity scent encouraged her to continue savoring it.

The wine is light-bodied and smooth on the palate, with a refreshing sweetness similar to lime and pear in the aftertaste. The finish is clean, and when chilled, it feels as if your whole body has been thoroughly cleansed by the icy spring water that has just melted from the snow-capped mountains.

It dispels the heat and stickiness of the day, bringing the coolness and tranquility of the night.

Jiang Fengyi swallowed a large gulp, tilting her head back.

Numerous bubbles burst on the tip of her tongue, and the sweet and sour floral and fruity aroma lingered in her mouth. Jiang Fengyi slightly parted her lips and kept inhaling to relieve the slight stinging on the tip of her tongue.

She kindly offered the advice: "It's better to drink in small sips."

Xu didn't pour another cup, but instead picked up Jiang Fengyi's remaining cup and took a small sip.

She squinted her eyes: "Mmm, I like the scent of these flowers~"

Jiang Fengyi asked in surprise, "Why do I only taste the fruit flavor?"

Unconvinced, she picked up her wine glass and took another sip. Her mouth was filled with the aroma of fruit. She savored it again and again before she could detect a hint of floral fragrance amidst the rich fruity aroma.

It's so faint that it slides down your throat without you even noticing, and then disappears without a trace.

Just as Jiang Fengyi was about to marvel at the other person's keen sense of taste, she heard her continue speaking.

"The rim of the cup smells of your pheromones."

Xu seemed to be savoring the memory.

"The faint floral fragrance masked the subtle taste of wine."

Jiang Fengyi continued eating the steak on the table and drank two sips of wine. The food in her stomach seemed to be digested quickly, and her empty stomach needed to be filled with food.

Xu put down his cup and deliberately drew Jiang Fengyi's attention to the bouquet.

Do you think this flower is pretty?

Jiang Fengyi looked up and glanced at it: "Beautiful."

Still no sign of it. At this moment, Xu regretted hiding the gift too well. She should have just hung it on the most conspicuous petal.

She simply pushed the flower directly in front of Jiang Fengyi, who was chewing.

Jiang Fengyi: ? ? ?

Xu himself felt that his actions were too deliberate and felt embarrassed to turn his head away.

Just as Jiang Fengyi was about to speak, something seemed to flash before her eyes.

"What is that?"

Upon hearing this, Xu looked at Jiang Fengyi expectantly.

The other person blinked, searched carefully, and finally found the "culprit" that had blinded her under the dense cluster of flowers.

An irregularly shaped aquamarine gemstone hangs from a long silver chain, but Xu did not pierce the gemstone; instead, he secured it with fine silver-white threads along the side.

It's like a silver hand enveloping a beating glacial heart.

A sliver of light from above pierced through the layers of petals and fell onto the pendant, giving the gemstone a subtle yet dazzling glow.

That streak of light resembled stars washed by rain, its cool radiance unable to conceal its brilliance even in the darkness of night.

"This necklace..."

Xu couldn't wait to say, "It's a gift for you!"

The moment she saw the bare stone, she imagined it hanging around Jiang Fengyi's neck, as if Jiang Fengyi's name was carved on it, as if it were born to belong to her.

So Xu bought it back.

The irregular shape formed a unique and beautiful stone, but Xu was unwilling to leave too many marks on it, as that would lose its original naturalness.

She twisted silver wire into an arc that perfectly fit the bare stone, securing the beating heart firmly.

"How do you like it?"

Jiang Fengyi reached out and picked up the shimmering handmade necklace from under the petals. It has to be said that Xu Que's talent for making necklaces is several times greater than his flower arranging skills.

The casually intertwined silver threads are simple yet artistic, like a masterpiece by a famous designer.

The aquamarine gemstone turned over in Jiang Fengyi's palm, its delicate light shimmering and spreading across her hand.

She stared intently at it.

Xu Que's heart was pounding violently in her chest until Jiang Fengyi uttered the word "like," at which point her heartbeat returned to normal.

Unable to contain her joy, she immediately walked up to Jiang Fengyi and took the necklace from her palm.

"Let me put it on for you."

Jiang Fengyi tilted her head slightly, revealing her swan-like long neck to Xu Que.

Having just finished showering, the lingering fragrance of shower gel could be smelled from the roots of Jiang Fengyi's hair as soon as you got close. Xu, who had originally only wanted to put the necklace on Jiang Fengyi, began to have other thoughts.

Her long fingers slid from her collarbone down to the back of her neck, the necklace clasp landing precisely on Jiang Fengyi's glands.

Xu paused in the act of fastening the buttons, her mind wandering elsewhere.

The pinky finger lightly brushed across the back of the other person's neck, causing the skin underneath to break out in a dense rash of tiny bumps.

Jiang Fengyi shuddered as if struck by lightning, and the glands on the back of her neck reacted, tentatively sending signals toward Xu Que.

"What...what are you doing?"

The person who was talking about wearing a necklace had somehow gotten their fingers touching her glands!

Xu deliberately didn't answer, and sniffed the air.

"Such a strong floral fragrance!"

As she spoke, the sun-baked sunflowers stretched out their limbs, releasing their own unique fragrance.

Upon smelling that familiar scent, Jiang Fengyi quickly got into the mood, clutching Xu Que's clothes tightly and tugging at them forcefully.

Try to persuade the other person by saying, "I...we'll eat first...and then..."

Xu fastened the necklace, bent down, and rewarded Jiang Fengyi's gland with a kiss. The moisture between her lips greatly encouraged the gland, which then worked even harder to release its floral fragrance.

When she opened her mouth again, her lips were already covered with the fragrance of flowers.

"It's alright, you can continue...having your meal..."

The word "dining" seemed to circle around with a deeper meaning on Xu Que's lips, finally entering Jiang Fengyi's ears with a lingering and melodious tone.

The exhaled hot air sprayed all over the glands, and the little bit of moisture outside was quickly dried and evaporated by the excessive heat. The dried-out glands wanted moisture to continue to be moisturized.

Jiang Fengyi was drenched in water from the showerhead in the bathroom. Her skin was already soaked with water, but now she felt like a traveler in the desert, her throat extremely dehydrated.

Xu, standing behind her, whispered tenderly yet mischievously in her ear, "What do you want to eat? I'll bring it over for you."

What to eat?

Jiang Fengyi didn't want to eat anything, she only wanted to drink water, and she longed for cool, refreshing water to flow through her body to relieve the heat.

"Water...I want to drink water..."

"Want some water?"

Xu's eyes swept across the dining table, finally settling on a certain spot.

"But there's no water here, only wine."

As soon as she finished speaking, she reached for the bottle of white wine.
