Chapter 14 A Warning to Yan Bugui

Yi Zhonghai and Sha Zhu helped the deaf old lady to the central courtyard.

As soon as I lifted the curtain, I could smell the aroma of food even before entering the house.

"What kind of food is this old lady making? The aroma is wafting outside! I haven't eaten yet, so I'll just have a bite here at your place in Zhonghai." The deaf old woman, leaning on her cane and being helped, hurriedly entered the house.

Yi Zhonghai's face darkened. He had originally planned to send some of the food to the old lady after it was cooked, as he wanted to maintain a respectful image towards the elderly.

But if the old lady eats here, it won't just be a matter of eating a little bit.

Despite her advanced age, the old lady has a real passion for good food.

"I bought some meat on my way home from get off work today, thinking I'd bring it over to you after dinner. Now it's all good, Zhu Zi is staying to eat with me and have a drink too," Yi Zhonghai said with a smile.

The older woman looked a little awkward, but since he had already entered the house, she couldn't say anything more and could only go along with what Yi Zhonghai said.

"Please sit down, ma'am. I'll go fry some eggs for you to have with your drinks."

Before long, the four of them sat down at the table. Yi Zhonghai poured half a cup for the deaf old woman and filled the cups for Sha Zhu and himself.

The deaf old woman picked up her wine glass, took a small sip, picked up her chopsticks, put the largest piece of egg into her mouth, and chewed it with a smacking sound. "Zhonghai, this Wang Dabao is a menace in our courtyard. You saw it yesterday, he almost laid a hand on me."

"They even tried to extort my savings for my funeral. I can't swallow this insult."

Sha Zhu took a sip of his drink with his head down. "Wang Dabao tricked me today, otherwise I wouldn't have accidentally hurt Grandpa. Next time I have the chance, I will definitely teach that brat a lesson."

"Let's not talk about this for now."

Yi Zhonghai said coldly, "As long as he still lives in this compound, even with the protection of his status as a martyr's family member, we can find his weaknesses and then teach him a lesson, making him return all the money he extorted from us, with interest."

The deaf old woman shoveled two pieces of meat into her bowl, nodded, and said, "Zhonghai, then I'll leave this matter to you. I'll back you up. I really don't believe he'll dare to lay a finger on me. Back in the day, I even delivered straw sandals to the People's Liberation Army..."

......

Wang Dabao slept very well. After eating the breakfast prepared by his housekeeper Wang Ba, he immediately called the system to start checking in.

"Ding! Congratulations, host, you have received a reward of one hundred cases each of Ashima, Daqianmen, Dazhongjiu, and Zhonghua cigarettes."

"Ding! Congratulations, host, you have received a reward of one hundred cases each of Xifeng liquor, Luzhou Laojiao Tequ, Moutai, and Fenjiu."

"Ding! Congratulations, host, you have received a reward of 100 catties each of Pu'er tea, green tea, and Hunan black tea."

"Ding! Congratulations, host, you have received a reward of one hundred boxes each of Cuban candy, fruit-flavored biscuits, White Rabbit milk candy, red shrimp crisps, and Grassland Hero Sisters biscuits."

Listening to the constant stream of system rewards, what excited Wang Dabao the most were the hundreds of boxes of cigarettes and alcohol. Of course, the tea was also a good thing, but the candy was secondary compared to the previous three.

After waiting for a while, no system voice came out again.

Wang Dabao dashed to the warehouse behind the wooden house, opened the door and was dumbfounded. Good heavens, the reward of one hundred boxes weighing one hundred kilograms was truly shocking, almost filling the warehouse.

He immediately called the housekeeper and told him to move the unimportant items, such as animal feed, to the shed on the other side of the farm.

If we put it here, it'll be too small to fit next time the system gives out such generous rewards. It's really in a difficult situation!

After taking a few packs of cigarettes, a bottle of wine, some tea wrapped in paper, and finally a few snacks, Wang Dabao returned to his room in the courtyard house.

Today's task is to find renovation workers to come and measure the dimensions of the doors and windows. The layout of the house won't be changed much, except that the walls, floors, and ceilings need to be redone.

As for having a bathroom inside the house, Wang Dabao had indeed thought about it, but he was quickly amused by his own idea.

In this day and age, if you dare to build a separate toilet in a compound, that's considered being out of touch with the masses and seeking special privileges.

It's like the village party secretary of a poor village building a big villa; it's like setting up a target and begging to be attacked.

Actually, even without someone reporting you, the neighborhood committee would never agree to you doing this, even if you are a high-ranking official.

Besides, the public toilets nowadays are all dry toilets. Even if you build a pipe with cement, where the hell would it lead to? In later years, the toilet renovation in Beijing was only done during the Asian Games.

Does it lead to a public restroom?

Don't be ridiculous. Public toilets are cleaned regularly by sanitation workers. Do you expect us to fill the latrines with water?

Even if there were a main underground pipe, sewage disposal would still be a major problem. Large urination would definitely not work, and for small urination, backflow must be prevented. In addition, freezing in winter would also be a problem.

In fact, Wang Dabao wasn't worried at all about fighting with his neighbors for the public toilet in the morning. He could go to the cabin on the island, where all the facilities were readily available.

After locking the door, Wang Dabao strolled towards the exit with cigarettes and tea in his pocket.

Although Yan Bugui hesitated last night, he still helped me after all. If he had turned against me and insisted that I had tripped over the stick, it would have been really hard for me to get away with it.

Passing by the courtyard, I saw a group of women chatting idly in front of Jia Zhangshi's house. Qin Huairu was washing clothes by the well with her big buttocks sticking out, and there was a little girl who had just learned to walk next to her.

The old woman, who was sewing shoe soles, glanced at Wang Dabao, then muttered "you little beast" under her breath.

Wang Dabao glanced at Qin Huairu's big buttocks. No wonder Sha Zhu was obsessed with her; this was the power of capital.

Upon seeing the little girl again, Wang Dabao was a little confused. Shouldn't Jia Dongxu have been in the underworld by now?
