Side Story: Time Traveler? Mountain of Despair? (Part 2)

A small village?

How could a small village exist in this barren place?

There are no fields for planting, no ponds for raising fish and ducks, and no grasslands for raising cattle and sheep.

The villagers warmly came out and treated everyone to chicken, duck, fish, and meat.

The students who came here were all magical elites, and none of them were reckless. One of them asked, "Where did this food come from?"

The village chief's face was filled with fervor: "It's all a gift from the gods!"

He grinned at the teachers and students, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth, but one tooth was exceptionally white and brand new.

"The divine being just bestowed upon me a white tooth, a symbol of the high-ranking people in the city!"

Everyone turned around in unison to look at the guy who had just knocked out a front tooth.

The young man with a lisp: "...Damn!"

"You must be here to pay homage to the gods. Just ahead lies the capital of the King of Jin Kingdom. There is a secret passage leading to the temple. The village chief diligently pointed out the way."

The group wanted to stay a little longer and rest, but the leading priest waved his hand sharply, and they continued on their way.

"I really didn't expect that there would still be people living in the Ghost Mountain Range, which is known as a forbidden zone for life." A mentor who really thought he was there for an investigation exclaimed and took notes.

A certain level seven mage frowned. According to the records in the Tower of Time, this desolate place was barren a thousand years ago. How come a city has been built here now?

Below, students were exchanging ideas, gathered around the boy whose front tooth had been knocked out, and curious about the deity the villagers spoke of: "Did their deity deliver food by transport, or did it appear out of thin air?"

"If it's the latter, then it's one of the gods from real mythology."

This discussion touched a nerve with one student, who was a well-known "anti-fan" on the internet, and he immediately started rambling on excitedly.

"But those myths are all exaggerated and false, like holding stars in one's hands or blocking out the sun... How could that be possible!"

"They say the Divine Court rules over three thousand three hundred worlds, but so many worlds were burned to the ground in a single fire... Can you believe that worlds were burned to ashes? Haha?"

"Moreover, the latest research has shown that the so-called gods are only equivalent to our level seven mages. Those six big shots in the sky are one main god and five righteous gods, understand?"

Naturally, some "god-worshippers" argued with him: "But what about those divine powers? Modern mages don't have divine authority!"

"Those are just special products of different cultivation systems, and they're all myths, so there's definitely an exaggeration involved!"

The six "gods" in the sky remained expressionless, thinking to themselves that a certain god-king whose home had been burned down might be right beside them, sitting in a wheelchair, looking frail.

Huo Lan: Why are those six guys in the sky looking at me again?

After the group walked for a while, they returned to the small village where they had just been, where the village chief and villagers were overjoyed.

"Finally, after all these years, another group of outsiders has arrived!"

"You're right! I heard their quality is excellent, one of them is worth a hundred!"

"For at least the next ten years, there will be no need to sacrifice people anymore."

"Selling to outsiders brings happiness to the whole village."

"We old villagers are really happy today!"

They continue to let themselves go.

A mage who had planted an eavesdropping array in the village: "..."

He shared the audio he heard with his colleagues and team leader.

"...A bunch of troublemakers!"

They wanted to detonate the magic array they had previously buried in the village, but they were afraid that a sudden action would cause some unforeseen complications, so they had to give up.

Several hours later, after passing through several small towns, they arrived at a magnificent city.

A colossal statue, three thousand meters tall, stands in the center of the city.

Yes, three thousand meters.

"Standing tall and reaching the sky" is simply not enough to describe its magnificence. Even a normal person looking up from close up cannot see the entire legs of this statue.

The colossus is clad in battle armor, with powerful muscles, an unparalleled and majestic presence, and is wise and mighty.

But it doesn't look human at all.

Unlike humans, which are...lower-level creatures.

"If there are gods in this world, none other than it," Huo Yang murmured.

This colossal male statue is absolutely terrifying; it's no ordinary object!

"This is the God of War, the peerless God of War—Reinhard."

The city lord (who was also the king) came over and respectfully knelt before the colossus: "He is the first god under heaven, who has torn apart sixty dragons on the battlefield and once overturned hundreds of giants in a single battle when he was young."

"He can shatter stars with a single punch. The God Ash Continent beneath our feet is as fragile as sand to him. He can single-handedly slaughter all the main gods and gods of all ranks except himself."

The teachers and students were not particularly impressed by the city lord's words, and thus did not fully grasp his fervent feelings, but they still managed to capture the key information in his words.

Austria?

The mythical court of Aotian, which was burned to ashes in a single breath of fire?

More and more questions arise, but we are also getting closer to the truth.

For example, the Sun-level mage looked at the Colossus of War with a completely bewildered expression.

Such a powerful aura is actually only from a main god?

Then what is this level eight mage who is also a main god?

Although the God of War in mythology could fight dozens of main gods at once, it would take at least hundreds of thousands of them to fight someone like him. This feeling of an ant facing a giant dragon... he had almost never experienced before!

The annihilation of stars—was it real or fake?

He felt that his views on cultivation had been crushed.

"The God of War?" While everyone was stunned, Huo Lan spoke up: "Is he the god you worship?"

“No.” The city lord gently shook his head: “What we worship is the daughter of the Father God—the beautiful goddess, Oxus.”

In the Divine Court of Aotian, the title of Father God represents only one person, the supreme God King: Aotian.

Several tens of minutes later, the group entered the passage leading to the residence of the goddess of beauty.

But as soon as they entered, the entrance was buried by dark soil, cutting off their way out.

Some wanted to bombard them, but the priest of time stopped them: their goal was to see the god, and they were willing to sacrifice their lives for it. As for retreat... they could talk about it after they finished their business.

Little did they know that after entering the passage, the dark earth of the Ghost God Mountain Range began to writhe and churn, like an enormous living beast.

Millions of villagers who had lived on the back of this living beast for thousands of years, generation after generation, along with the "superiors" in the city and the kings who ruled over these people, were all swallowed up by the black mud-like earth, their bodies dissolving away.

Their sole purpose in living was to kneel before the gods. Now that the gods no longer need mortals to kneel before them, they naturally no longer need to exist.
