Confinement

Confinement

They've been busy lately, so this is a good opportunity for them to take a break.

As luck would have it, Fan Siwen's instrument malfunctioned that afternoon. Without him as an intermediary, their work couldn't continue, and the entire experiment had to be stopped. They called a repairman, and seeing that he had been busy all afternoon without finding the problem, the others kindly offered to help as well.

All night long, nothing was gained.

Night fell, and the experiment still couldn't be restarted.

Fan Siwen leisurely ordered a table full of takeout, and during her break, she pulled the repairman and the two supervisors at the door to sit down and chat.

"You've all worked hard, everyone. You've been busy here all day. Sit down and rest. Things are unpredictable. Who would have thought that this equipment, worth hundreds of millions, would break down so easily? It's so unreliable. Here, I'm sorry for troubling you all. Try some, eat more, and replenish your energy."

"We've never seen anything like this before. In all our years of repairing equipment, this is the first time we've encountered something like this. We don't know where the problem lies."

"Yeah, the world is full of wonders. Sometimes it's really hard to guess where the instrument is malfunctioning."

"It's not a guess, it's that we simply can't find out."

"Yes, yes, yes, who can say otherwise?"

Fan Siwen drifted through the day in a daze, and thanks to the equipment, everyone got off work early today.

Before going to bed, a message came in the group chat: "Tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock, everyone should go to the conference room for a meeting."

When the message arrived, Mo Yang was already asleep.

Fan Siwen finally had a day to play games, so she stayed up all night to her heart's content.

As luck would have it, the young man Mo Yang also went to bed early.

As a result, Fan Siwen, who had planned to wake Mo Yang up early, was late. Both of them were in a mess and didn't arrive at the meeting room door until almost 8:30.

They caught a glimpse of the leader speaking inside, and the two discussed when to go in.

Seeing someone lurking suspiciously at the back door, the two thought to themselves, "Thank goodness we're not the only ones who're late."

The two tacitly headed towards the back door, and when they looked up and met the eyes of the person who opened the door, they were completely heartbroken.

Three people from the same lab sneaked in through the back door while the leader was speaking, only to be caught red-handed by the leader on the podium.

"Which lab are you three from?"

The originally serious atmosphere instantly descended into chaos, with the crowd below the stage whispering amongst themselves and those on either side of them.

"Quiet down, everyone."

The leader on the podium spoke up, "You all sit in the front row and let everyone have a good look."

Upon hearing this, the three of them slowly walked to the front of the stage.

As Fan Siwen walked, she muttered to herself, "Why didn't everyone sit at the front this time, like they did when Song Yize held project meetings?"

Hou Chengjie's face turned green as he passed by the project manager.

Mo Yang subconsciously lowered his head and led the two of them to sit down.

Throughout the entire event, the leaders who were speaking all paid close attention to Mo Yang and his two companions, but the meaning behind their attention was somewhat overt.

The content of the meeting speech was mainly based on the correct use of laboratory instruments, with the aim of informing everyone that the instruments are expensive and should be used with care.

After the meeting ended, Mo Yang was invited to the office as expected.

"Wow, that's really something! You're late for a meeting of hundreds of people, and you break down equipment worth billions of dollars just like that. Shouldn't you have something to say to me about it?"

The person in front of him slammed his fist on the table in anger.

"It's really unlucky that such a low-probability event happened to us."

"Is it really that simple, just catching up? Do you know that if the equipment stops operating for even a day, it will cost us millions in losses? Can you afford to take that responsibility?!"

"You didn't choose the good ones when you bought them, and you only complained afterward."

Mo Yang's indifference clearly enraged the man. He stood up abruptly, shouting, "How come all the trouble is happening in your lab!"

"Who told you to take on such a hot potato?"

Mo Yang looked at the man with a very sympathetic gaze.

"Put them in solitary confinement! All three of them are in solitary confinement. Don't let anyone out until I tell the truth!"

Mo Yang was locked up first.

The other two were chatting and watching the commotion outside the lab when soldiers suddenly appeared and took them to a small dark room.

When they first went in, the three of them were not quite used to it.

Before long, the sound of snoring began to rise and fall.

It's hard to believe that the loudest snore comes from the youngest child, Mo Yang.

Having gotten used to a regular daily routine, my body really couldn't handle staying up all night all of a sudden.

But once he put down the burden, he fell asleep and slept soundly for days.

Even calling him to get up for a meal won't wake him.

The soldier went to report, and the leader's vision went black again and again. His hand, which had been pounding the table, was still not fully healed when his head started to ache again.

On the left is a hacked computer program, and on the right are billions of dollars worth of laboratory equipment that have been shut down.

The group of people kept him busy for a single minute.

His vision went black. "Keep them locked up. No need to send them food. I don't believe they can keep sleeping like this."

The routine of delivering meals had allowed them to enjoy a rare holiday.

The time was almost up, but the person delivering the food was still nowhere to be seen.

The two of them were exhausted.

In another room, Mo Yang woke up, not knowing what time it was. Feeling a bit hungry, he knocked on the door.

There was no sound outside.

The people in the other two rooms, hearing the noise, also started knocking on their doors.

"Going to the toilet, is anyone there? I can't hold it in anymore!"

"Open the door! We're starving!"

...

It seems no one cares.

The three of them stopped using their strength.

Fan Siwen had an idea and knocked on the wall next door.

I could faintly hear an echo coming from next door.

I thought to myself, "There's hope."

He used the few Morse codes he knew to communicate with the person next to him.

What do we do?

"Turn it over with your hands?"

How do I flip it using my hands?

"Starting at dawn?"

Say it again.

"break……"

"Break what?"

Fan Siwen chatted like this for half the night, but still couldn't understand what the other person was saying.

Mo Yang pounded on the wall to listen to the sounds and alleviate his loneliness.

Fan Siwen still couldn't figure it out, so he went to knock on the other side. He knocked for a long time but still didn't get a response.

Bored, I sat there hugging my knees, lost in thought.

The people on this side, seeing that no one was bringing them food, changed direction and went back to sleep.

I don't know if my body can withstand hunger, but my sleep quality is really high.

After a night of hunger and cold, the three of them were completely out of sorts the next day.

Forget about knocking on the door, I don't even have the strength to get up.

If he continues like this, he'll probably die after another day of starvation.

Mo Yang was at a loss for what to do.

He never imagined that his cleverness would be no match for the physical attacks of a ruthless person.

Clearly, at this moment, they were not being treated as human beings.

If it were just him, he would have absolutely no objection.

However, now reality was in front of him, and the two of them were suffering along with him. He suddenly realized the meaning of what Old Huang had said.

This is just the beginning; who knows what awaits them later.

The reason she made two other people suffer along with her was simply because of her own little bit of willfulness and temper. That was truly wrong.

He can apologize to Hou Chengjie and then do whatever he wants in the future.

At this moment, he truly had no temper left.

So this is what people are like when they have a weakness.

As time stretched on endlessly, they lost track of exactly how much time had passed.

The moment the light was lost, everything lost its sense of time.

No one can explain the meaning of a second, minute, or hour.

I don't know how much time passed, but then the door was opened.

The moment the light appeared, the men were too weak to get up from the ground.

The acid in their stomachs was churning, and the blinding light had extinguished the initial anticipation they once had.

After a long time, the people who had been dragged out gradually adjusted to the light and slowly opened their eyes.

Looking at the other two, Mo Yang felt a deep sense of guilt.

Expressionless and ashen-faced are no longer enough to describe his appearance at this moment.

Adding a layer of anxiety would make it even more appealing.

The three sat in a row outside Hou Chengjie's office, waiting for something.

And so, I sat here and waited for a long time.

It wasn't until he saw a person hurrying over from a distance that Mo Yang was able to see what the person looked like.

This person is—Hou Chengjie?

At first glance, this person looked much more haggard, as if he had been locked up with them.

"Come in with me," the voice said in a low tone.

Upon hearing the sound, the three people entered Hou Chengjie's office one after the other.

After the door was closed, the person spoke.

"After these past two days, you should know what the consequences will be if you continue to oppose me. If you do as I say from now on, we can put the past behind us."

The man still sounded arrogant, but his words carried a weary sense of pleading for peace.

Mo Yang had no time to think about what had happened and nodded in agreement.

"There's a group of reporters outside right now. Go take a shower and have some food later, and get ready to be interviewed by the reporters."

After saying that, the man quickly took a sip of water, and then continued as if he remembered something, "You two go, Song Yize, you go back to your dorm and hide somewhere. Remember, if anyone asks, just say that Professor Song is not available to show his face. As for the rest, you know what to say and what not to say, right?"

Mo Yang nodded in agreement. The other two didn't react much.

"Alright, you guys hurry up and get ready."

After saying that, he picked up his phone, his face showing an expression that wished the three people in front of him would disappear immediately.

Mo Yang lifted his feet quickly, but his steps were small.

Just as I reached the door, I heard a thud behind me.

He quickly turned around and saw Fan Siwen lying flat on the ground.

Seeing this, Mo Yang, who was standing to the side, reacted in a second and then fell down straight down as well.

What kind of mess is this?

Mo Yang had no strength left, let alone the ability to help two people up.

They strained for ages, holding their noses, but couldn't move a single one.

The person who was just holding their phone, about to make a call, suddenly became furious.

"Someone, someone, take him to the hospital, take him to the hospital."

After helping the person up, he kept reminding them, "Don't go through the front door, go through the back door, go through the back door."
