Discussion of human nature
"That must be a coincidence!" Fan Siwen reacted the fastest, shouting out the words before anyone else could.
Mo Yang was clearly not as quick to react as Fan Siwen, but he could still glean the implied meaning from Fan Siwen's words.
"Professor Song, we don't use our phones while working, and we don't care about work-related matters after work."
He was being honest, but perhaps a little too honest.
"This doesn't mean we have anything to do with this."
After listening to Mo Yang's explanation, Fan Siwen quickly added to the story.
Mo Yang paused for a moment, then continued, "It's not that you're involved in this matter, but there are very few people in the world who know this algorithm, and even fewer who can use this data for calculations. Currently, I only submit data-related reports to designated superiors daily, so if we extrapolate from this chain..."
"Besides the two of us, is there anyone else to suspect?"
Fan Siwen clearly does not accept being unjustly accused.
"Since you've already reported it to your superiors, why don't you report it to them directly? Why are you coming to us?"
The person watching the surveillance footage looked rather grim.
"Hey, do you think the problem might be that our lab is being monitored?"
"you mean?"
"Someone accessed our surveillance video and obtained the data we generated."
"But we haven't achieved anything yet, so why would someone release it ahead of time? What's the point for them?"
Young people don't quite understand.
The person watching the surveillance footage suddenly seemed to have been enlightened. "So that's why a data breach could still happen despite our heavily fortified internal network." He then instructed the person in front of him, "Go and investigate the line that hacked into our network."
The intense discussion was still going on in Song Yize's laboratory.
"If that's the case, then no matter how hard we try, we're just doing all the work for others, it's all in vain. In the end, all the achievements are done by others, so what's the point of us doing it?"
Although Fan Siwen's words were demoralizing, they were not untrue.
However, that wasn't what Mo Yang cared about.
From the perspective of all humanity, the outcome is not particularly important to who controls it; as long as it benefits all of humanity, any method is acceptable. However, if this matter is considered from the perspective of a group or nation, then it is undoubtedly a momentous issue.
If anyone else obtains his research findings and uses them not to benefit humanity, but instead to plunge humanity into an intractable disaster, then he can be considered the greatest villain.
This is no child's play.
"Is there any way to compromise our surveillance equipment?"
"What do you mean?"
Fan Siwen's answer was definitive.
"Let them never return."
"I do have a friend who's part of a hacker group and is an expert in this area. Should we ask him?"
"feasible."
Mo Yang waited for Fan Siwen's result.
Mo Yang returned to his area and continued his monitoring work.
Not long after, Fan Siwen brought over the results of the discussion.
Thomas said he could develop a virus system that would allow anyone to maliciously access our monitoring data, leading to a virus page that would cause the entire system to replicate wildly before crashing. They wouldn't be able to take any of our data.
After listening, Mo Yang thought it was feasible and offered some suggestions for modification.
"Let's change it to overseas malicious browsing. After all, it's still safe here in our country." Mo Yang thought of the people watching behind the surveillance cameras, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously turned up slightly.
The plan was thus finalized and handed over to Fan Siwen to implement.
Throughout the entire ordeal, Mo Yang remained silent on the matter until Fan Siwen went to the restroom. Feeling uneasy, Mo Yang approached Fan Siwen and whispered, "Professor, I think what you did just now was unethical."
"Why is it immoral?"
Mo Yang, who was still taking measurements, didn't have time to turn around and look at him.
"When something happens, we should fight it openly and honestly, not resort to underhanded tactics."
"As it turns out, what they did wasn't very sophisticated either. They couldn't even wait for the results and released them prematurely, which shows their ulterior motives. If we continue to tolerate this, we will only get ourselves into bigger trouble. Sometimes, in a battle between two armies, it's not about who is braver or more daring, but rather about some underhanded and disgusting behavior that is enough to let the other side know that we are not to be trifled with. It's the tricky things that sink a ship in the gutter."
After finishing his speech, Mo Yang turned to look at Mo Yang. "Business warfare is warfare, and data warfare is also warfare. In war, it's not just about who is more capable. If you have time, take some time to read Sun Tzu's Art of War. It won't hurt."
After saying that, he casually slid his chair to pick up a newly printed spectrum of the band in front of Mo Yang, then sat back down in his office area and carefully compared it.
Throughout the entire process, Mo Yang did not notice Mo Yang's thoughts or expressions.
Fan Siwen felt a chill in the air when she returned from the restroom.
But he really didn't know the specific reason.
Before leaving get off work, Mo Yang made an excuse and left early.
Fan Siwen looked at Mo Yang, who had left his post without permission, and then turned to look at Song Yize.
Seeing that Song Yize didn't react at all, Fan Siwen was a little confused.
"Director, Director, what's going on?"
Fan Siwen had a gossipy look on her face.
But he was rebuffed by Mo Yang.
"I'm busy, I don't have time. If you have something to do, you can go ahead too."
"Why should I leave first? I'll still be looking after you when I get back to the dorm."
As he spoke, he returned to his own interface and dutifully started working on the spreadsheet.
Mo Yang finally finished his work and stretched out a big yawn.
Turning around, I saw that Fan Siwen was still there.
"Why aren't you going to eat? It's so late!"
"You haven't left yet either, I was thinking of waiting for you."
Mo Yang glanced at the time; by now, the cafeteria was definitely out of the question.
Gritting his teeth, he said, "Let's order takeout."
"You're treating?"
"My treat!"
"Okay."
Fan Siwen dropped the mouse in her hand, not even having time to click the save button.
Mo Yang, who was standing to the side, couldn't stand it anymore and reminded him, "Save it, save it. Are you planning to do it again without pain?"
"Oh right." After saying that, Fan Siwen seemed to remember something, turned around and tapped the button in the upper left corner.
"When I'm writing a paper, I always forget to save, and the output is invalid again and again."
"You never seem to learn your lesson."
As he spoke, Mo Yang sat down in his wheelchair.
Fan Siwen was just about to get up to push him.
But they discovered that Song Yize had slid away on his own.
"No, is it all so smooth now? I don't even need to push it anymore?"
"Is it possible that wheelchairs in the 21st century will be electric?"
The two left the lab and studied the wheelchair for a while.
"Then what about all the suffering I endured before?"
"If you can't endure the hardship, then you have to."
"No, get out of here. I want to experience what it's like to ride an electric wheelchair."
Fan Siwen's curiosity about new things has even led her to take action against her mentor.
Mo Yang was thrown off the wheelchair and watched as this person moved back and forth in the wheelchair, almost making a fool of himself.
"Go pick up the takeout."
"No problem, that's a piece of cake, just watch."
Mo Yang returned to his dormitory in his wheelchair and then handed it over to Fan Siwen.
Thinking about what happened today, Mo Yang was unsure whether he was right or wrong.
The wheelchair was clearly repaired by Mo Yang.
Fan Siwen simply didn't have that kind of brainpower. And the previously broken wire, as Mo Yang could clearly see, was now perfectly reconnected.
This is why the wheelchair suddenly started walking on its own.
Mo Yang reflected on whether he had been too harsh on Mo Yang, and whether his prejudice against him stemmed from Mo Yang being himself.
Perhaps I'm not understanding him enough.
Thinking back to when I was that age, I may have made many mistakes and said many wrong things. It's a good thing that he's young and is offering his opinions. Wouldn't it be too cruel to interrupt someone's intellectual development when they're young?
I've thought about it a lot, and for a long time.
Fan Siwen still hasn't returned.
Mo Yang wondered to himself, "Where did this person go? Did they take the wrong way?"
Send him a message via Feishu.
Where are we?
The other person sent him a location that was very far away, along with the message, "I'll tell you later."
Mo Yang waited a while longer in the dormitory before someone came in with the aroma of several bags of food wafting in from the doorway.
After putting the bag on the table, Mo Yang asked him.
"Why is it taking so long?"
"Don't even mention it. This wheelchair is only for you. I'd barely sat down when the loudspeaker announced something to everyone: 'Near-ground flight is prohibited at the research base.' I..."
Before he could finish speaking, Mo Yang was already laughing so hard he collapsed.
"You know what, you really have to admit, that adjective is actually quite apt. Didn't you hear it?"
"What?"
"Announcing through a loudspeaker."
"No." Mo Yang took out a roasted corn kernel and ate it.
"Then you probably need to get your ears checked."
Mo Yang reached out and slapped Fan Siwen on the shoulder.
Fan Siwen crossed her arms and dodged.
Finally sitting down, Fan Siwen reminded Mo Yang, "Should we invite Mo Yang to come along?"
Mo Yang thought for a moment, "He's probably already finished eating."
Fan Siwen understood Mo Yang's meaning and didn't say anything more.
When ordering, Fan Siwen had a little something to do and casually ordered two bottles of beer, which Mo Yang probably didn't see.
When Fan Siwen took it out, Mo Yang hesitated for a moment, but he couldn't resist and took it.
He hadn't had a drink with Fan Siwen in a long time.
Although, the person in front of him is not him.
After a few rounds of drinks, Mo Yang and Fan Siwen got into a long conversation.
What did your boss talk to you about yesterday?
"Which leader?"
"Yeah, they're all pretty tall and young, and they talk like this..."
"Oh, you mean him. We didn't talk much, he just took me to see a doctor."
"What illness do you have? Oh, your leg? There's such a thing? You didn't even tell me."
"Then I'd have to tell you everything. How could I possibly finish telling you everything?"
"There's no end to it, but I'm already saying it."
"There's something else I can't tell you."
"What can't you tell me?"
Mo Yang paused for a moment, then continued, "Actually, I'm from another time."
