Why does Chapter 10 keep reminding him that he's old?
Gu Yuheng smiled reassuringly at her, knowing that the girl was nervous, and softened his tone as he spoke.
"Sit down, Grandma is very easygoing, you don't need to be afraid."
"good."
Su Niannian gently sat down on the sofa, feeling her whole body being gently lifted up. She quietly touched the leather of the sofa, which felt as soft as silk. It was really comfortable to sit on.
Grandma has worked hard all her life and has developed a lot of chronic ailments. When I start earning money in the future, I will buy Grandma a comfortable sofa so that Grandma won't always have back pain.
"Niannian, how old are you this year?" Old Madam Gu asked with a smile as she sat to the side.
Su Niannian answered politely, "Grandma, I am twenty years old this year."
The old lady glanced at her grandson: "He's nine years younger than our Yuheng. Oh dear, Yuheng, you're really getting old. I'm sorry to have to put you through that."
Gu Yuheng's face darkened for a moment: "Grandma, could you please not give me specific numbers? Besides, I'm only twenty-nine years old, not ninety-two. You're making it sound like I'm about to retire."
The old lady thought it made sense and helped her grandson explain: "But Niannian, don't look down on him because he's older. He's more mature and knows how to care for people. Besides, our Gu family's tradition of loving one's wife is inherited from our ancestors. His grandfather always doted on me, and his father also inherited the gene of loving one's wife. This has been proven over time, and Yuheng is sure to be a good match."
Su Niannian glanced at Gu Yuheng and thought to herself that this love for his wife could be hereditary.
Then why has he remained single for so many years, turning himself into an old bachelor?
It's clear that by Gu Yuheng's generation, there might have been some genetic mutation!
"Grandma, I understand."
The old lady affectionately touched Su Niannian's face: "Although Yuheng doesn't talk much and isn't good at sweet talk to girls, he is a trustworthy person. My good child, live a good life with him, and he will not mistreat you."
Su Niannian nodded as if she understood, "Mm."
The old lady had the two of them stay at the old house for a meal, but thankfully she didn't let them stay overnight and let them leave.
After the two left.
Aunt Chen brought over ginseng tea and saw the old lady resting on the soft couch in the bedroom.
"Madam, do you really believe the young master is married?"
The old lady slowly opened her eyes, took the ginseng tea, and took a small sip.
She laughed and said, "I've eaten more salt than those two kids have walked roads together. Whether they're real or fake, how could they hide it from my eyes? Just a few days ago, Yuheng was still against marriage, but in just a few days he brought me back a granddaughter-in-law. Does he really think his grandma is senile? Can't he see that they're conspiring to deceive me?"
Aunt Chen tucked the corner of the thin blanket around the old lady: "Then why didn't you expose them to the face?"
Madam Gu glanced at Aunt Chen and said, "What's fake can become real. They must have moved in together to deceive me. They see each other every day, so they'll develop feelings for each other, won't they?"
Aunt Chen smiled and said, "As the saying goes, familiarity breeds affection. If you don't even have the chance to spend time together, how can feelings develop? You are truly wise, Madam."
Madam Gu: "Niannian is such a lovely child. I've decided that Niannian is the perfect granddaughter-in-law. These two children are a perfect match no matter how you look at them."
As she spoke, the old lady gathered the wolf and rabbit auspicious ornaments on the table together.
From Aunt Chen's perspective, it looked like the big bad wolf and the little white rabbit were kissing face to face.
The old lady has a truly discerning eye.
They really do resemble the young master and Miss Su.
---
The Su family.
Last night, Su Guowei took care of Grandma Su's dinner. The old lady didn't see her granddaughter and asked worriedly where Su Niannian had gone.
After Su Niannian ran away in the afternoon, Su Guowei went out to look for her, but after searching around, he couldn't find any trace of her.
They thought that Su Niannian would come back by nightfall once she had figured things out, but she never did.
"Mom, Niannian is sick. Her parents aren't around, so Niannian is going to the hospital to take care of her for a while. She'll be back later, so don't worry."
This is what Su Guowei said.
A night passed, and Su Niannian was still nowhere to be found. When Su Guo called her classmate, the classmate said that he had not seen her, and Su Guo began to get a little anxious.
"What are you doing over there? Hurry up and come steam the buns."
Li Xiumei frowned and called out.
Su Guowei stood up, holding his phone: "Niannian hasn't come back all night, I hope nothing bad has happened to her."
Li Xiumei paused for a moment, then snorted coldly: "She keeps making a fuss about having her grandma undergo surgery. The old lady is still lying there. Where could she go? Isn't she just hiding to scare us? When that brat comes back, I'll definitely teach her a lesson. How dare she talk back to me and run away from home to scare people."
Even though Li Xiumei said that, Su Guowei still called Su Niannian.
But the line was always busy, and no one answered.
"Look, she won't even answer your calls. She's putting on airs." Li Xiumei scoffed.
Su Niannian's black antique phone was currently charging on an expensive cabinet.
Her phone ran out of battery yesterday, but it was too late when she got back to the villa, so she didn't want to bother anyone. This morning, she went to the housekeeper and borrowed a charger from her.
Gu Yuheng's private villa is a three-story European-style building, decorated in a low-key and simple style, with black, white and gray as the main colors. Walking in, it feels a little dull, just like Gu Yuheng's personality.
There are usually only three servants here to do housework; the number of people is small, so it's quite peaceful.
The thing Su Niannian had been worried about for so long didn't happen. Gu Yuheng didn't ask her to share a room with him.
Although Gu Yuheng and she had obtained their marriage certificate, Su Niannian was not so presumptuous as to naively believe that she was truly Gu Yuheng's wife.
To put it nicely, they were a fake couple; to put it bluntly, it was an employer-employee relationship.
When the year is up, I should go back to where I came from.
Therefore, she must always be clear about her position and avoid doing anything that would offend Gu Yuheng.
She cooperated with Gu Yuheng's act in front of Grandma Gu, but in private she treated him like her boss and worked hard for him.
Su Niannian sighed, tidied up the room, and then went downstairs to have breakfast.
The man was already waiting at the table.
Su Niannian was still wearing yesterday's clothes. After greeting Gu Yuheng, she sat down next to him.
Gu Yuheng glanced at the girl's faded white T-shirt but said nothing.
There were many kinds of breakfast, but Su Niannian just held a spoon and drank her porridge. Her fair and tender face puffed up and she looked very well-behaved.
But she's too thin.
But to Gu Yuheng, it was a sight that pained him.
"Su Niannian, if you don't finish this breakfast, it will all be thrown away later. The villa never leaves leftover food."
"Oh? That's such a waste."
"So you should eat more, so as not to waste it."
Su Niannian had developed a habit of thrift and frugality since childhood and would never waste food. When she heard that such good food was going to be thrown away, she felt that it was a crime!
They stopped drinking porridge and focused on eating the shrimp dumplings and crab roe soup dumplings on the table.
The little girl's mouth wasn't big, but it could hold a lot of things; her thin cheeks were stretched into a round oval shape.
So cute.
Gu Yuheng put down his chopsticks and smiled slightly.
I was in a surprisingly good mood for breakfast today.
After breakfast, Gu Yuheng called out to Su Niannian, who was about to return to her room.
He was dressed casually, in khaki pants and a white T-shirt. His hair wasn't combed neatly as usual; fine strands fell slightly across his forehead, highlighting his deep and handsome features, making him look even a little... younger than yesterday.
"Uncle, you look younger."
Su Niannian forgot how to address him again.
Gu Yuheng's face darkened, and his high eyebrows furrowed slightly: "Su Niannian, did I look old before?"
It's one thing that she keeps calling me "uncle".
Why do I keep reminding him that it's big?
