Chapter 1 Reunion
After five years in California, Zhu Wendong returned to Jiangbei again. He felt neither nostalgic nor excited. He was as calm as stagnant water, not at all like a person who had returned to his hometown after a long time.
As soon as he landed, Zhu Wendong went straight to the white car at the airport gate.
"You don't plan to go back this time, right?" Cheng Jinhe turned to look at the passenger seat and glanced at her.
Zhu Wendong hummed softly and fastened his seat belt.
Cheng Jinhe didn't hold back on her praise at all: "I've only chatted with you about writing online before, but I didn't expect you to be so beautiful!"
Zhu Wendong wore a light beige trench coat with a slim-fitting V-neck linen-gray sweater underneath. Her slender legs were revealed between her flared jeans, and each strand of her black and flowing hair seemed to carry a lazy and casual beauty.
It’s not a stunning appearance at first glance, but it makes people look at it a few more times.
Zhu Wendong blinked his butterfly-like eyelashes and said seriously, "I'm not like this when I write. I suggest you demystify yourself."
She has been abroad for these years and has written several novels in her spare time, and unexpectedly achieved some success.
Cheng Jinhe is the editor who has accompanied her from an unknown person to a popular author.
Although we have never met offline before, we have gotten along very well over the years and can chat about basically anything.
Cheng Jinhe couldn't help but laugh out loud twice, and suddenly thought of something. His eyes were full of gossip, and he looked at her with blinking eyes.
"I've always heard that your first book was based on your own personal experiences. Is that true?"
The reason for this rumor is that her pen name is "Xue Yanqi" and her first work is called "Xue Yanqi's Secret Love".
Zhu Wendong's phone suddenly started ringing non-stop. She calmly pressed the mute button and mumbled, "I guess so."
Cheng Jinhe's eyes widened as if she had thought of something, and she said excitedly, "The sex scene in the book is also real?!"
This book was written several years ago, and she herself can't even remember the detailed plot.
I didn’t expect Cheng Jinhe to remember it so clearly.
Zhu Wendong coughed violently twice and quickly changed his words: "It's fake, fake, I made up the plot."
Cheng Jinhe had an expression that said 'I understand, I understand', just like someone who hadn't eaten meat for ten years seeing a pig running.
After a while, she continued to ask, "But you were reluctant to sell the copyright of this book, so why are you willing to do so this time?"
Zhu Wendong said calmly, "I'm a little short of money lately and need it urgently."
Cheng Jinhe knew some of the circumstances of Zhu Wendong's family. It was really strange that the daughter of the wealthy Zhu family in Jiangbei would be short of money.
However, Cheng Jinhe was very sensible and didn't ask any more questions. He just spun the steering wheel and said to himself, "I'm very happy that you can stay in China. Welcome back!"
Zhu Wendong looked straight ahead, a barely perceptible emotion flashed in his eyes, and he smiled without saying a word.
Some people were looking forward to her return, but there was nothing in Jiangbei worth her remembering.
If it weren't for some accidents, she probably would never have thought of coming back in her life.
After a few turns, Cheng Jinhe parked the car downstairs of Kaisong Media. Kaisong Media is located in the city center, and cars can only be parked in an underground garage farther away.
"Go in and wait for me, I'll go park the car."
Zhu Wendong originally wanted to go with her, but when he saw that the car had already stopped in front of the office building, he couldn't refuse and got out.
It was early autumn in October, the leaves were falling, and a slight chill was already appearing in Jiangbei. Zhu Wendong subconsciously tightened the collar of his windbreaker and went straight into Kaisong Media.
Thinking that Cheng Jinhe would probably not take too long to park the car, Zhu Wendong stood in the reception area of Kaisong Hall and waited.
Perhaps it was because her temperament and appearance were too eye-catching, and several people looked at her sideways.
Zhu Wendong was not used to too much attention. When she was about to move to a more secluded place, a voice fell on her head.
"Zhu...Wen Dong?"
Jiangbei is indeed a city that is too familiar. There is an acquaintance every three steps and a relative every five steps. It makes Zhu Wendong's scalp tingle.
She raised her eyes and saw an unexpected face: "Lu Guanqi, long time no see."
Lu Guanqi scratched his head, his face flashing with countless complex expressions in an instant, "When did you return to the country?"
A very polite question.
Zhu Wendong pursed his lips and politely replied, "Today."
The two of them fell into silence, not because they had nothing to talk about, but because the relationship between them was too complicated.
Lu Guanqi stared at his childhood friend's ex-girlfriend, thinking that nothing was appropriate to talk about. In the past, he could at least talk about Qi Yanxue, but now he was afraid that just a nod and a greeting would be enough.
What's more, they haven't seen each other for five years, and Qi Yanxue himself might not even recognize him.
After all, Zhu Wendong was a good girl five years ago. She still has that sweet look in her eyes, but her temperament is a little more cold and distant.
Since he had come forward to greet him, Lu Guanqi could only bite the bullet and start a conversation: "Are you here in Kaisong to look for someone?"
Zhu Wendong didn't feel uncomfortable at all, and said calmly, "I guess so."
Selling copyrights means signing a contract, signing a contract means finding the person in charge of Kaisong, and rounding up means finding someone.
"I'm familiar with Kaisong. I'll let you know who you're looking for."
The words were polite, but coming from the mouth of the young master of the Lu family, they must be serious.
Zhu Wendong refused calmly: "It's okay, it's not a big deal. The person I'm waiting for has arrived. I won't talk about it now. See you next time."
After saying that, she walked towards Cheng Jinhe who had already entered the hall in the distance.
After the people walked away, Lu Guanqi took out his cell phone from his pocket and typed quickly.
Where are you now?
【Guess who I saw? ? 】
The opponent responded immediately.
Xue: [In your office]
Xue: [Did you see Lazy Sheep taking you to the Western Paradise to obtain Buddhist scriptures again?]
“…” I just casually mentioned my dream last time, and you remember it so clearly!
Lu Guanqi: [Wait, I'll come up and tell you now!]
-
"Did you just run into someone you know?"
Cheng Jinhe just came in and happened to see her chatting with a man. Although they didn't seem to be familiar with each other, the atmosphere seemed a bit awkward.
Zhu Wendong nodded.
Cheng Jinhe bumped her shoulder and said, "No wonder he sold the copyright to Kaisong. It turns out he has an acquaintance."
"No, it was just a coincidence." Zhu Wendong said frankly.
It was indeed a surprise to meet Lu Guanqi, and I never thought that he would come up to say hello. After all, after we broke up that year, I was ready to never have anything to do with him and the people around him again.
Cheng Jinhe didn't ask any more questions, and the two of them followed the secretary into the conference room, one in front and one behind.
The secretary bowed politely: "Please wait here for a moment, Mr. Lu will be here soon."
"Wait a moment."
Zhu Wendong stopped her and said thoughtfully, "Is the person in charge of your company named Lu?"
"Yes." The secretary wore a meticulous smile on his face. Just as he was about to close the door and leave, he stopped and said respectfully to the side, "Mr. Lu."
"Mr. Qi."
When he heard the last two words, Zhu Wendong's chest tightened inexplicably, and an indescribable emotion surged up.
Then two figures came into the conference room.
Lu Guanqi's clean and handsome face was the first thing that caught my eye. His mouth kept opening and closing, muttering to himself, his attention all focused on what was behind him.
Then he saw the man behind him. It was a cold and unruly face. The man was wearing a dark, straight suit, with two buttons of his black shirt undone. His tough outline revealed dignity, and he exuded an inexplicable aura of abstinence.
He raised his eyelids, revealing deep, dark brown eyes as he listened to the person in front of him nonchalantly, even perfunctorily.
At the same time, a voice was heard, neither too loud nor too soft, just loud enough for everyone in the conference room to hear.
"Qi Yanxue, I'm telling you, I saw Zhu Wendong downstairs!"
