Chapter 2 Goodbye

Chapter 2 Goodbye

Qi Yanxue stopped walking. Lu Guanqi was about to ask why he didn't leave, but he followed his gaze and met his gaze directly.

Lu Guanqi's breathing stagnated, as if the ashes from the crematorium had choked his nose.

For a moment, the air fell into deathly silence.

Zhu Wendong raised his eyes and met that cold gaze for a microsecond. Soon the latter's face became emotionless and he looked away as if he had seen a stranger.

I had prepared for the reunion as early as when I decided to return home, but I didn't expect it to come so suddenly.

Qi Yanxue calmly walked over and sat down opposite her.

Lu Guanqi followed closely behind and sat down with an expression that looked like he wanted to slap himself twice on the spot.

A strange atmosphere between the four people lingered in the conference room.

Cheng Jinhe didn't know the reason, but she recognized the face chatting with Zhu Wendong downstairs: "It seems that you all are acquaintances. Then there is no need for polite words, let's get straight to the point!"

Qi Yanxue drank the coffee that his secretary had just brought him with an expressionless face, and had no intention of saying anything.

Lu Guanqi glanced at the two people beside him calmly.

Although there was no communication from beginning to end, the silver thread in the air, as unbreakable as the river water, was always taut, and could explode at any time.

He was forced to speak up. "I'm the head of the copyright department of Kaisong. Which of you is the author of the book 'Xue Yanqi's Secret Love'?"

Cheng Jinhe pointed to the side: "This one."

Zhu Wendong was replying to a message with his head down when his eyes fell for two seconds on the tip of a pair of shiny black leather shoes under the table opposite him.

After hearing Cheng Jinhe's introduction, she looked away as if nothing had happened and raised her eyes: "It's me, Xue Yanqi is my pen name."

Qi Yanxue paused holding the coffee handle, and raised his eyebrows slightly under the cover of his hair when he heard the words.

No one on the field noticed this subtle movement.

Lu Guanqi tried hard to suppress his shock and said seriously, "The price has already been agreed upon. If there is no problem, let's sign the contract."

The secretary beside him handed over the contract sensibly, and Lu Guanqi took it and picked up the pen to sign.

"Wait a minute," Zhu Wendong suddenly interrupted him, "I have one more condition."

Lu Guanqi raised his head: "You say."

Zhu Wendong said frankly: "I am the only one who can adapt this book."

This is not difficult, nor is it an excessive request.

Lu Guanqi waved his hand and was about to agree when a clear voice spoke before him.

"This condition—"

Qi Yanxue raised his eyelids and said coldly, "I'm afraid not."

This was his first sentence after he came on stage. He spoke sparingly, as if he was sitting in the audience listening to a song he had no interest in. He exuded a hint of laziness.

Zhu Wendong looked at him and said, "From what I know, this won't be a difficult task for Kaisong."

Her clear eyes met his dark eyes.

Qi Yanxue had a pair of extremely aggressive eyes. His inky black eyes stared at her steadily, like a dormant beast, dangerous and charming. Once he was targeted, there was no escape.

Zhu Wendong had also seen a hint of tenderness in such eyes, which was precious and unique to her, but now it has all disappeared.

She once again became a prey being watched in the dark.

Qi Yanxue's Adam's apple rolled up and down as he spoke succinctly, "Kai Song only accepts conditions that can bring benefits. This one is worthless."

Zhu Wendong had no way to refute it. She had no experience in adaptation and no confidence to make such a boast.

For a moment, he actually agreed with Qi Yanxue's statement.

She knew that Qi Yanxue could give in and the condition could be negotiated, but he didn't.

So she won't back down on this step: "Since we can't negotiate, then we won't sell it."

The cooperation that was clearly a done deal was broken down by the two people's unwillingness to give in.

The air in the conference room seemed to be getting thinner.

Lu Guanqi didn't dare to breathe. He glanced at Qi Yanxue and then at Zhu Wendong.

Qi Yanxue took a sip of coffee slowly. After a while, he opened his thin lips and said, "Goodbye, I won't say goodbye. I will learn from the great writer."

There is a hint of sarcasm between the lines.

As soon as he finished speaking, Zhu Wendong picked up his bag and turned to leave without any hesitation.

Cheng Jinhe looked at the thin figure, wanting to say something but stopping himself, and finally followed him.

Lu Guanqi hurriedly told his secretary to send it over, then turned around and looked at Qi Yanxue for a long time.

Qi Yanxue put down the coffee and looked straight ahead: "If you have something to say, just say it."

"That condition isn't a big deal, why didn't you agree?"

Lu Guanqi cleared his throat and continued, "Could it be that the book wasn't written for you? Are you furious? Are you angry out of shame?"

Qi Yanxue glanced at him sideways and said indifferently, "What relationship does she have with me that makes me so angry and annoyed?"

"Ex-girlfriend?" Lu Guanqi changed the adjective, "Or the woman who made you stumble?"

Qi Yanxue said nothing, and for no reason he thought of Zhu Wendong's deer eyes, which were clear and flawless, and seemed to be able to overflow with spring water when they were wide open.

Although Zhu Wendong looks cute, she is actually a wild rose covered with thorns. Only her eyes reveal the desire to protect her.

After not seeing each other for five years, he almost lost to those eyes again.

The person has changed, but the eyes have not changed.

Thinking of this, he snorted softly: "You are indeed right about one thing."

Lu Guanqi began to recall what he had just said, but before he could figure out what he had said, he heard him slowly utter a sentence.

"That book wasn't really written for me."

-

Cheng Jinhe followed Zhu Wendong out of the Kaisong Building one after another, and the warm autumn wind blew on their faces wantonly.

Cheng Jinhe held it in for a long time, and when Kaisong came out, he couldn't wait to ask, "Are you familiar with that Mr. Qi?"

Zhu Wendong was vague: "I guess so."

Cheng Jinhe discovered that Zhu Wendong not only had a somewhat cold temperament, but also a somewhat distant personality. It seemed that she could connect with whatever you were talking about, but her actual answers were always ambiguous.

"You three are old classmates?!" Cheng Jinhe's curiosity was ignited, and she began to ask herself questions and answer them. "It doesn't seem like we're old classmates. The atmosphere between you two is a little weird. It feels like you used to have a good relationship but it's broken up, and it's really awkward."

Upon hearing this, Zhu Wendong gave her a look of praise, "You guessed it right."

Cheng Jinhe, who has read countless articles and loves to ship couples, was deeply inspired and spoke boldly: "Actually, I think that Mr. Qi looks a little familiar, but I have never seen him."

"Just now I remembered that he looks a bit like the protagonist of your book 'Xue Yanqi's Secret Love'?!"

Zhu Wendong shuddered with fear and pretended to be calm, changing the subject: "You go to the underground garage to drive. I have something to do later, so I'll leave first."

Cheng Jinhe kept pursuing her, "You haven't told me yet!"

Zhu Wendong answered the question irrelevantly: "I'm sorry that I couldn't sign the contract this time. I'll treat you to a meal in a couple of days."

"That's not a big deal," Cheng Jinhe said, successfully diverting the topic. "The main thing is that you're not in a rush to use the money. What are you going to do if you don't sell it this time?"

"There are always more solutions than problems," said Zhu Wendong.

Cheng Jinhe: "Where are you going? Do you want me to take you there?"

"No, I'll have someone to pick me up in a bit."

After saying goodbye to Cheng Jinhe, Zhu Wendong's phone in her pocket suddenly vibrated. When she lowered her eyes and saw the caller on the screen, her eyelashes trembled.
