Chapter 3 Divided
"I heard from your stepfather that you returned to China?"
There was an unclear emotion in Zhu Wendong's eyes, but he finally said "hmm".
"After all these years, you still remember to return home. Where are you now? I'll send someone to pick you up. Come home and have a meal first."
Zhu Wendong raised his hand to stop a car on the side of the road, "Mom, I have something to do later, I'll go back to Tingguo tomorrow."
"I don't care if you have anything to do today, you have to come back for dinner tonight!"
After saying that, he hung up the phone without caring about Zhu Wendong's reply.
Zhu Wendong turned off his phone and said to the driver, "Go to Tingguo."
As night deepened, the scenery outside the window was bizarre and flashed by like a slide until an exquisite and luxurious courtyard appeared on the screen.
The taxi stopped at the gate of the courtyard. Zhu Wendong got off. The tall bamboos swaying in the wind at the gate came into view, exuding a familiar atmosphere.
She typed on her cell phone with one hand while dragging her luggage into the yard.
[We can’t get together tonight, I’m going back to the court]
Qiao Shizhu: [Have you returned to the court?]
Qiao Shizhu: [Do you need me to call the police? ? ]
Zhu Wendong laughed a little and replied nonchalantly.
Dong: [Let’s fight]
Dong: [If calling the police is helpful, then I'm happy to do it.]
Qiao Shizhu: [Forget it, call me if you have anything]
After reading the message, Zhu Wendong put his phone in his pocket, picked up his luggage and opened the door, but no one was there.
A stern and solemn female voice came first.
"After all these years, I thought you had forgotten how to get home!"
Zhu Wendong placed his luggage at the entrance without raising his head or saying a word.
Wen Lu felt uncomfortable and started to scold her again: "Why, you can't even speak a foreign language?"
"Back then, you had the guts to go abroad alone without consulting anyone. Over the years, you haven't answered my calls! You haven't replied to my messages!"
"If your uncle Zhu's secretary hadn't seen you at the airport, you wouldn't have even considered returning home!"
Wen Lu sat at the dining table facing the entrance, staring at Zhu Wendong like an eagle, watching her every move.
Seeing that she remained silent, and even showed no intention of replying when she passed by,
Wen Lu was furious and asked sternly, "Where are you going?!"
"Wash your hands and eat." Zhu Wendong's face showed no emotion as he walked out of the kitchen and said in a calm tone, "You speak so forcefully. It seems the illness you had five years ago is almost healed."
Wen Lu said coldly: "If you don't make me angry, I would have been fine five years ago."
The next second, Wen Lu saw Zhu Wendong calmly preparing to pick up the dishes on the table to start eating. She was so angry that she hit the back of her hand with her chopsticks.
Zhu Wendong's fair and smooth skin instantly turned pink. He covered the back of his hand and said, "You're not even allowed to eat?"
"Eat, eat, eat, that's all you do," Wen Lu said angrily, "Wait until your Uncle Zhu comes back before eating!"
At this moment, a deep voice came from the entrance.
"Is our Wen Dong back?"
Zhu Wendong tilted his head and replied politely but distantly, "Uncle Zhu, long time no see."
Zhu Shouwen smiled lovingly, washed his hands, and sat down next to Wen Lu. He said gently, "After so many years, our Wen Dong has become more and more beautiful."
Zhu Wendong didn't smile or say anything, his eyes gradually grew colder, leaving only the coldness in his bones, and the sense of distance that came naturally when he wasn't smiling was revealed.
Zhu Shouwen ignored him and asked kindly, "Do you have any plans to return home this time?"
"If she dares to go, I'll break her legs this time." Wen Lu answered before she could. "Five years ago, I was sick and couldn't stop you. Now, let's see if I can stop you."
"Mom, I don't plan to go abroad again." Zhu Wendong took a bite of rice, feeling a little upset.
Wen Lu has had a desire to control her since she was a child. When she was young, she simply interfered with her interests and hobbies. Later, as she grew older, she began to control her friends.
Whenever she heard something I said to a boy in high school, she would scold me when I got home.
Qiao Shizhu once commented on her, saying that it was no wonder that a mother with such a strong desire for control could raise a good girl like you.
Although he later became a rebel, the shadow of his childhood was unforgettable, a shadow that would accompany him throughout his life.
She thought Wen Lu's desire to control her would gradually fade away over the past five years, but unexpectedly, not only did it not, it became even worse.
Zhu Wendong came to his senses and a shadow covered his eyes.
Zhu Shouwen put a piece of lotus root slice into her bowl and asked with concern, "What are your plans for returning home this time?"
Wen Lu said, "It's useless for her to have her own plans. She should just stay at home."
Zhu Wendong handed the lotus root slice from the bowl to Wen Lu and said calmly, "Mom, I'm already 25. I should take care of myself and eat more vegetables."
Wen Lu understood the hidden meaning behind her words and turned to Zhu Shouwen to confide in him, "Look, the child has grown up and you don't even let me take care of him. I feel so angry when I say this."
Zhu Shouwen glanced at the lotus root slices in the bowl of the person beside him and said calmly, "When the child grows up and has his own personality, he won't be easily bullied outside. You should rest assured."
"Just protect her." Wen Lu picked up a piece of pork ribs and gave it to Zhu Wendong. She added, "Since you know you're 25 and not young anymore, find me someone to marry!"
"Didn't our Wen Dong have a boyfriend a few years ago? How is he now?" Zhu Shouwen asked with a smile.
Wen Lu remembered it after hearing that. "That boy is really good. He was so distracted when he saw you back home during those two years. Look how fascinated he is by you. Bring him back to see you when you have time."
"We broke up a long time ago." Zhu Wendong said calmly.
…
The meal is over, the scolding is over, it’s time to pack up and leave.
Zhu Wendong thought so and she did so.
"You just came back, why are you going out again?" Wen Lu saw her movements and asked her.
Zhu Wendong did not stop moving, and walked out of the room, leaving behind one last sentence: "I don't live in Tingguo anymore, I'm moving out."
Without waiting for the mother, who was about to explode, to say anything, she mercilessly closed the door, blocking out all the noise behind her.
She stopped a car, put her luggage away and got in.
The driver asked, "Where are you going, girl?"
Zhu Wendong closed the car door and was stunned when he heard the words. The apartment he had originally planned to rent today was suddenly stood up by the landlord. Now, after thinking about it, he was afraid that there was really no place for him to stay in such a big Jiangbei.
After a long time, just when the driver could no longer wait, Zhu Wendong gave the address.
"Go to Biesong Community."
As the driver drove off, he said, "Beesong is an old neighborhood, and it's rare to see young people living there."
Zhu Wendong smiled but said nothing.
The driver continued, "It's just that in the past two years, a wealthy man invested a large sum of money and renovated it for free. Now, Biesong Community has become as high-end as a high-end apartment building."
Zhu Wendong said "hmm" lightly, obviously not very interested in the topic, and lowered his head to play with his mobile phone.
Seeing that she was not interested, the driver did not bother her anymore.
It was quiet all the way until the car stopped at the gate of Biesong Community. Zhu Wendong took his luggage and walked in, only to find that the big change the driver said was really happening.
Fortunately, the location of the building did not change. She found the corresponding floor by muscle memory and stood at the elevator entrance waiting for the elevator.
Suddenly, the dim warm light above my head flickered, sometimes dark and sometimes bright, creating a strange and terrifying atmosphere.
It looks like a short circuit in the wires. The rich man the driver mentioned is not that great.
Zhu Wendong looked up, and only looked away when his eyes were stung by the flash.
Suddenly, in the long, cold and silent night, the sound of footsteps, neither light nor heavy, came from far away and gradually approached, echoing in the empty first floor.
It was a dark and windy night, the lights were broken, there was no one around, and the novel buffs were stacked full.
Zhu Wendong couldn't help but clench his hands in the pockets of his windbreaker, and focused his attention on the figure approaching from the side.
The man was tall, about 1.88 meters tall, with sharp facial features blended in black and white, and a jawline as sharp as a knife that was tightly stretched, giving him a handsome and outstanding temperament.
