Chapter 007: Refining Horseshoes
Remembering the bread and jam that Mrs. Susan had sent before, Bai Su returned the favor by cutting half of the cake she had just baked and sending it to her neighbor.
The person who opened the door was Lisa, whom I had met once in the restaurant.
"Oh!" The girl with cute freckles took the basket handed to her by Bai Su with surprise, lifted the beeswax cloth and took a look. "What is this? Is that white layer on top cheese?"
Lisa's voice rises and falls like an aria, making it easy for people to feel her good mood.
"It's cream." Bai Su replied with the same smile, "and a little powdered sugar. This is the fruit cream cake I just made. I hope you like it."
"Cake? Is it a pie made of eggs? It doesn't look like it... Anyway, thank you for the cake."
Hearing Lisa say this, Bai Su felt that he was on the verge of being exposed again - Lisa worked in a restaurant in the capital, and she didn't even know what cake was. This could only mean that the natives of this world had not yet invented desserts like cake!
But Bai Su has become very skilled in explaining all the strange things about him in the past few days.
The young farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, this is also a specialty of my hometown. You know, I'm from the golden town in the western continent."
Lisa happily accepted the special gift. In fact, she hadn't taken her eyes off the beautiful cake since then.
"Thank you." Lisa blinked. "You're a very good neighbor. If it weren't for Captain Keos, I think I would pursue you."
Bai Su: “…”
After delivering the cake, Bai Su returned home and saw the remaining half of the cake still lying on the dining table intact.
The two children were lying on the edge of the table, staring at the cake and drooling. When they saw Bai Su coming back, they meowed at him obediently.
Bai Su was immediately overjoyed!
He covered the cake under the eager gaze of the two children.
"Be good little kitty, this is dessert for after dinner. Let's have lunch first."
He took out the meat sauce that he had fried in the morning from the cupboard and made meat sauce and mashed potatoes with the potatoes he bought yesterday.
When there is no rice, Bai Su can also accept potatoes as staple food.
The two children had eaten noodles in the morning before going to bed, but now they were devouring the meat sauce and mashed potatoes, scooping them into big mouthfuls with spoons.
Bai Su felt that his concerns about his future financial situation were not unreasonable.
As expected of a tiger, right? Such a big eater.
Bai Su finished his lunch, brought out the cake, and cut it into three pieces.
"This tastes better if you eat it little by little." He couldn't help but remind them because he was afraid that the two children would finish it in one bite.
The two children nodded and took a small bite.
Just one bite and his eyes lit up, but remembering what Bai Su said, he still tried to restrain himself and eat slowly.
So the sweetness of the afternoon was prolonged for a long time.
After eating and drinking, Bai Su pulled the gauze curtains in the living room, hugged the two fat babies and sat on the soft and comfortable sofa, starting the first family meeting in the other world.
Bai Su was the first to raise a question: "So, you two are the stowaway orcs that the capital has been catching recently."
"Meow..."
"Don't be silly." Bai Su interrupted the two little tigers' attempts to act coquettishly, "Speak human language."
The two children looked at each other, and finally the child with light blond hair turned back into a little tiger and rolled around in Bai Su's arms, while the child with dark brown hair put on a serious fat face.
"Brother, we are not stowaway orcs." The child said seriously.
Bai Su raised his eyebrows, rubbed the snoring little golden tiger in his arms, and signaled him to continue.
“Someone put us on the boat…”
The child pinched the corner of Bai Su's clothes and began to speak haltingly.
It turned out that the two little tigers had no idea what smuggling was. From their perspective, one day, their home was suddenly in chaos, their relatives were nowhere to be found, and they were carried onto a boat by their father's subordinates, sailed across the ocean, and arrived at the small town of Boeing in the East Continent.
My father's subordinates put them in a dilapidated but hidden house (the warehouse of Baisu Farm) and left alone.
The two children were so hungry that they sneaked out of the warehouse, jumped across the muddy ground of the farm and came to the wooden house. They lay down by the window and saw Bai Su eating and packing rice seeds in the kitchen. They thought there was something delicious in the pot, so they sneaked in in the middle of the night.
What follows is the scene where the farmer captures the little tiger on the spot.
Bai Su: “…”
"After all this fuss, you two still don't know anything?" Bai Su held his forehead helplessly. It would be difficult for him to expect two tiger cubs, who were only a few years old, to explain what happened.
In the narration just now, the only thing that the little boy with dark brown hair made clear was that his name was Allen, and the little golden tiger was his younger brother, Gabi.
Allen thought for a moment and said uncertainly, "I still remember a few things... I remember the Dark Forest suddenly became very chaotic, with broken trees everywhere, and many orcs ran out to the town."
"It was very windy and rainy before, so our food went bad and we had nothing to eat."
“Some people had a fight with their dad, and then their mom disappeared.”
Allen racked his brains to add many details, but Bai Su's face gradually became heavy.
Strong winds, heavy rain, and destroyed food.
Bai Su closed his eyes and his fingers trembled slightly - if he guessed correctly, it should be a typhoon.
He remembered that yesterday morning in the grocery store, the grocery store owner also mentioned that last year, the small town of Oats not far to the south was also hit by a hurricane. Most of the farmland was destroyed, and crop yields dropped sharply. It has not recovered until now.
All this indicates that a world-class food crisis may soon break out here.
In peacetime, the bottom line for people's survival is to have enough food to eat. If this bottom line is broken, peace will soon be gone.
It's even possible that the two tiger cubs' parents and their clan have already...
Allen finally noticed that Bai Su's expression was not right, and he shook Bai Su's hand cautiously.
Bai Su came to his senses and took Allen into his arms, tickled the child's skin, and forced him to turn into a little tiger.
One person and two cats were playing on the sofa. Bai Su pinched the thick pads of the two little tigers and promised, "Don't worry, there's plenty of food at my house, and I will definitely raise you fat!"
Bai Su looked from afar at the large basin of soaked rice seeds on the dining table.
Perhaps, this is the meaning of my coming to this world.

In the conference room, two equally tall and handsome centaurs stared at each other in silence.
Finally, the gray-haired centaur was the first to look away.
Like it? Maybe.
Keos could not deny that he was indeed fond of the sunny and cheerful human youth.
Faria happily shook his fiery red ponytail, and he knew that Caius was attracted to her.
That morning, many Centaur guards witnessed the young farmer saying to their superior with a bright smile, "I like Centaurs very much. I think you are very handsome."
No centaur could refuse such a fiery compliment that was almost a confession of love!
He was even a little jealous of Keos, who was able to win the undisguised affection of the young and handsome farmer.
"My friend," Faria said sourly, patting Keos on the shoulder, "you always have enviable good luck."
Keos said with a half-smile: "Then be careful, don't let jealousy destroy you."
Keos mercilessly exposed him: "I don't understand. If you want to have a relationship, why don't you agree to Lisa? We all know that she forced her brother Olin to go to the Boy Scout training camp for you."
The red-haired centaur stiffened.
He almost sighed and said, "But that doesn't mean she really wants to live with me forever... She's too young."
After hearing this, Keos fell silent.
There is no Centaur who doesn't like humans. This is a nature engraved in the Centaur's blood.
Humans are soft, lovable, passionate and energetic.
But the lifespan of a centaur is almost three or four times longer than that of a human. Faced with the gap in time, few humans choose to be with a long-lived race like the centaurs.
In other words, there is no such precedent so far. After all, it has only been ten years since the Centaurs left the Dark Forest and reached a peace and friendship alliance with humans.
Finally, Faria looked at his friend who shared the same suffering as him and said helplessly:
"Perhaps we just lack a little courage, just a little courage - do you want to go with me to Old John's weapons shop?"
…
Keos couldn't explain why he suddenly accepted Faria's invitation to go to Old John's weapons shop with him.
It can't really be that damn courage.
Keos's eyebrows were almost twisted to the sky. He said coldly to Faria, who had red dreadlocks, "Do you feel brave now?"
Faria: “…”
Faria felt that it would take a lot of courage for him to go to work as usual tomorrow.
Old John's weapon shop has always been the best shoe shop in the eyes of all the centaurs in Boeing Town - Old John has an excellent blacksmithing skill. The horseshoes he makes are comfortable and flat, and the sound is very crisp, which is deeply loved by the entire guard department.
Horseshoes are usually replaced every three months or so. Keos and Faria replaced their horseshoes along with other guards at the beginning of last month, so it is not time to replace them again.
But the showy Faria wanted to change into a new pair of clothes today, and sincerely invited Keos to go with him.
So the two of them met at the weapons shop after get off work.
No one informed them that Old John had suddenly decided to retire a week ago, and the current owner of the weapons shop was his son, Little John.
Little John was a very thoughtful young man. He found that with a long period of peace, people's demand for weapons decreased a lot.
Little John suggested to his father several times that the weapon shop be renamed as the blacksmith shop, but Old John did not agree.
So after taking over the weapons shop business, Little John set his sights on the Centaurs.
The Centaurs have been their largest customer group in the past ten years. Little John vowed to serve these big customers well, and he even developed new business for the Centaurs!
So, when Little John and his apprentice were busy repairing the horseshoes for Caius and Faria, the two captains of the guards relaxed their vigilance and agreed to the beauty package recommended by Little John in a daze.
I got a card, had beauty treatments, and spent money.
Now, standing at the door of the shop were Keos, whose gray hair was all gathered together into a loose fishbone braid, and Faria, whose red hair was braided into dreadlocks and whose black horsehide was carefully waxed, like a shiny rogue.
The two stood on the sparsely populated commercial street at night, feeling extremely confused.
