Chapter 105 The Call of the Sea

Chapter 105 The Call of the Sea

After Vespera was born, he was taken care of by his mother and lived in China for a long time. Later, when he grew up a little, he returned to France and to his father.

In Champagne, people can roughly judge a man or woman's identity, personality and emotional preferences through their perfume.

According to Vespera's childhood memories, the combination of sea salt and lemon always reminds him of a daily chemical product called dishwashing liquid, so he has never liked perfumes with simple spice ratios.

But there are always exceptions.

For example, at this moment, he was held by the Naga and walked through the woods. The smell of green leaves, plant roots, and moist soil was everywhere, which easily reminded people of various green leaf perfumes - usually, Vesperia liked green leaf perfumes.

But the cool scent of sea salt and lemon emanating from Naga lingered faintly at Vesperia's nose, soothing the heat in his body.

It also brings an unparalleled sense of security.

"I feel like my night vision seems to be better than before. Is it because I've been away from official documents and closer to nature recently?" Vespera said casually.

They walked in the woods without kerosene lamps, relying only on the faint moonlight.

In other words, it was thanks to Naga's powerful night vision, because he could always lead Vesperia to easily avoid all the branches on the ground that could easily cause people to fall.

"Later, your night vision will be even better." Naga said firmly.

Once Vesperia becomes fully proficient in breathing underwater, his eyes will become more adaptable to dark environments, such as seeing clearly in the deep sea. However, his daytime vision will be slightly weakened.

This is irreversible.

But Naga firmly believed that these changes would give Vespera a healthier and stronger body, making him less fragile than before.

The closer they got to the sea, the more excited Vesperia felt.

As soon as he emerged from the bushes, he broke free from Naga's arms, stepped onto the beach barefoot, and walked towards the water.

The cold sea water rippled over Vespella's calves, like a gentle caress.

"Would you like to swim a lap?" Naga asked him.

"Forget it." Vespera thought about it and refused.

Although he enjoyed the cool, slightly salty sea water with every pore, swimming at night was still too dangerous.

The night is not as good as the day. In Vespella's eyes, the entire beach is just black through three layers of filters - the beach is light black, the sky is black, and the sea is deep black.

It's no longer a matter of visibility, but in such pitch-black conditions, if a shark swims in front of you, you might not be able to react.

Vespera told Naga about his concerns.

"Why do you think so?" Naga said with a smile, "Sirens... no, mermaids are the top predators in the ocean. No predator would dare to approach the waters where I swim. If you are worried about your safety, don't worry, I am by your side. I will protect you and will not let you get into any danger."

"But I'm not good at free diving." Vespera was both excited and conflicted.

He didn't know what went wrong.

He said no, but he really wanted to swim a few laps in the sea.

I want to pry some shellfish off the rocks on the seabed, dig out the cuttlefish hiding in the sand and squeeze out their ink, and even, if possible, compete in swimming with a swordfish.

How could I have such an idea? Vespera was completely convinced by his own wild imagination.

"The water here is shallow, and very close by there's a large area of purple and yellow coral. From this perspective, the sea looks very dark, but once you dive in, you'll discover more bioluminescent species than you can imagine, especially jellyfish. In my opinion, they're much more beautiful than the lights you humans use."

“Are jellyfish poisonous?”

"It's poisonous, but I'm here, and no harm will come to you."

"Okay, you've convinced me."

Vesperia draped the blanket wrapped around her shoulders on the reef and stretched her body briefly.

Five minutes later, he handed his hand to Naga and said, I'm ready.

Vespera himself couldn't see, but with moonlight in his eyes, he was licking his lips, and his Adam's apple was sliding up and down, making him look like a predator eager to take action.

Naga's only remaining heart was pounding at Vesperia's adorable gesture.

He thought, My prince is even cuter than in fairy tales.

In the boundless darkness, there was a clear sound of someone diving into the water. The siren hugged Vespera from behind and dived with him.

At first, the vision was dark.

But gradually, in places where the moonlight could not reach, there were suddenly some tiny specks of light coming from deeper under the sea.

The closer we get to the colorful coral reefs that Naga mentioned, the brighter the light becomes.

"It's Noctiluca." Naga whispered in Vespera's ear. His already low voice seemed even more blurred in the sea. Strings of bubbles exploded on Vespera's cheeks and earlobes. Vespera felt as if she had been kissed many times.

"The day I rescued you from the ocean, I actually searched for you for a long time because these little glowing things looked so much like your beautiful blue eyes that they clouded my judgment."

"That day, I hated these little creatures who worked so hard to illuminate the ocean. They delayed me from rescuing you in time..."

Vesperia blinked. He also liked his blue eyes, although they were not as bright as those of the Noctiluca.

Surrounding him like a true guardian, the Naga did it, and no large fish dared to approach them.

He took three breaths in the middle, not because Vespera asked him to, but because Naga controlled the rhythm, brought Vespera to the surface, and asked him to exhale and then inhale.

Vesperia always felt that the time he held his breath was getting longer and longer.

The last time, Vespera felt like he had been holding it for at least four minutes, but it didn't seem very strenuous.

They came to the colorful coral reef.

Some pink jellyfish crept up on them, scaring Vespella so much that she huddled back into Naga's arms.

"Don't be afraid." Naga hooked one hand around Vespella's waist and reached out the other hand in front of him. She gently poked the jellyfish's soft umbrella-shaped body with her fingertips and said, "You can try to touch the heads of these little creatures. Their heads are safe and harmless, but be careful to avoid those long tentacles."

Vespera did so.

Then he was surprised to find that these cute little things seemed to understand Naga's words, and they actually rubbed his palms with their fluffy umbrella-shaped bodies.

Vespera was pleasantly surprised. He turned around and wanted to tell Naga about his discovery. Then he saw that Naga's floating, seaweed-like long hair was also glowing.

"Your hair is glowing!" Vespera was shocked.

"Maybe some scaly fish, they are always happy to help me clean my scalp." Naga replied.

"Then they are really very...Oh my God!" Vespera suddenly realized and covered her mouth.

How can he talk in the sea?

Vespera's hands and feet were shaking with fear.

"Don't move." Naga held his body steady. "Don't touch the tentacles of those jellyfish."

Vespera immediately stopped moving.

He blinked and looked at Naga, his brain reacted for a while, then he slowly lowered his hands that were covering his mouth and nose, and carefully inhaled some sea water - at the same time, he held Naga's arm tightly, intending to let Naga take him to the surface to breathe if he choked on water.

The feeling of sea water entering the nasal cavity is strange, but it is better than washing the nose.

The cold and slightly fishy sea water did not block Vespella's trachea. It seemed to flow out through some organ that Vespella did not know about.

At the same time, some oxygen was able to enter Vespera's lungs through the empty trachea.

He actually breathes underwater.

"This is impossible..." Vespera muttered. He was sure that he was a human, not a siren or something else - look, his lower body was still human legs.

"Of course." Naga held his face and soothed him gently, "I can have human legs, so why can't you breathe in the sea?"

"This is different, Naga, I'm not stupid."

Vespera was certain that something must have changed in him that he himself was not aware of.

Could it be that Naga knows witchcraft and wants to turn me into a mermaid like him?

"Don't worry, dear prince. Are you hungry now? Would you like something to eat?" Naga asked him. "All the seafood you can see now, I promise, every one of them is delicious."

Even though he knew Naga was trying to change the subject, Vespera couldn't help but have some direct physical reaction to his words—he was almost drooling.

If you eat a red devil shrimp in the sea, will the meat be firmer than on the shore due to the pressure?

What about shellfish? Would it be chewier?

In Naga's eyes, these hunger reactions were like little fish begging for food from adults, and Naga's maternal love overflowed.

"Oh, how about we go to my cave and talk? It'll be very quick from here in your current state, and I'll catch whatever prey you fancy along the way. Okay, dear prince?"

Vespera thought about it and nodded in agreement: "I think I could eat a whole whale right now."

Being able to breathe and speak in the sea is not a terrible bad thing. Vespera is willing to give Naga a chance to confess and be lenient - she can't be harming him, right?

"Haha, but you'd better let those gentle big guys go. They are more important to the ocean than filling your little belly."

Naga still held Vespera's body from behind and swam with him deeper and farther.

During the process, Vespella kept trying to regulate her breathing and occasionally swung her legs, trying to keep up with the Naga's rhythm.

But soon, he gave up again - even if a swimming champion came, it would be impossible for him to keep up with the swimming pace of the water snake.

It would be better to concentrate on looking around to see if there are any fat deep-sea fish.

They really all look delicious.

With every long breath Vespera took, he seemed to be able to smell a little of the tempting aroma of those fish, and the Naga would explain in his ear that this kind of fish is crispy, and that kind of fish has a particularly high fat content and the meat is particularly soft.

"Naga, you are an underwater gourmet." Vespera said seriously.

Then he felt a kiss, just behind his ear.

He subconsciously reached out and touched it, and there he found the secret to his ability to breathe underwater - an organ that had suddenly appeared.

The author has something to say:

I found a new job (not really a proper job, as I've always been freelancing) in TVC advertising. The project will probably be finished by the Chinese New Year.

I have been doing creative work, so I often feel that a lot of my brain cells are dying.

If income is not a consideration, I would like to sweep the streets. This kind of brainless work should be suitable for me to combine work and rest.
