Chapter 236 Talking is exhausting

Lin Zao also looked remorseful. "Uncle, it's my fault for being unfilial. I haven't come back to visit you all these years."

Master Lin wiped away his tears and sighed, "It's good that you're back. Your uncle doesn't blame you. It's my fault for not taking good care of you back then, so it's normal for you to resent us."

"Uncle, please don't blame yourself. How could your niece resent you? There were reasons why I haven't been back for so many years. Now that I have some free time, I rushed back immediately. I hope you won't mind if I bother you in the future."

Lin Zao looked like she missed her family but was also embarrassed, which made Tang Jian, who was standing next to her, glance at her sideways.

He never expected that his wife's acting skills would almost fool him.

Master Lin seemed not to understand Lin Zao's meaning and quickly said, "Niece, you are being presumptuous. This Lin residence is your home. Whenever you want to come back, your uncle will welcome you with open doors."

Lin Zao bowed and said, "Thank you, Uncle."

Master Lin nodded with a smile, then glanced at Tang Jian beside Lin Zao, his eyes flashing.

"Is this my niece's husband?"

Tang Jian clasped his hands together and bowed to Master Lin.

"My son-in-law, Tang Jian, is from Datong Town, Luolin Prefecture. He currently serves as a general in the Ganzhou Army, working under the Fifth Prince, Prince Cheng. I have come to pay my respects today with my wife, and I hope my uncle will not blame me."

Master Lin stood up, looking both shocked and overwhelmed with honor, and even his first wife, who was sitting next to him, stood up as well.

"So it's General! Please rise, I'm just an ordinary commoner, I really don't deserve such a great greeting from you!"

Tang Jian straightened up and said modestly, "Uncle, there's no need to be so polite. You are my wife's uncle, so you are my elder. You deserve this courtesy. You can just call me Tang Jian."

Master Lin exclaimed, "My nephew-in-law is truly a man of great bearing and extraordinary demeanor! My second brother is so fortunate to have such a wonderful son-in-law."

Tang Jian: "It is I who have made a fool of myself, and I do not deserve such praise from you, my elder brother-in-law."

Master Lin suddenly slapped his forehead, "Look at me, I was so happy to see you that I forgot to ask the servants to serve you some tea and snacks."

He turned to look at the First Madam and said reproachfully, "What's wrong with you? Can't you see that your niece and nephew-in-law are thirsty? Hurry up and have someone come in to serve them!"

After he finished speaking, he turned around and beckoned Lin Zao and Tang Jian to sit down.

The First Madam, filled with trepidation, quickly dismissed her attendants to make arrangements, and sat cautiously beside Master Lin.

Lin Shaohua, who hadn't spoken since entering, quickly said upon seeing this:

"Father, please don't blame Mother. We were just so happy to see our third sister that we were so rude. I'm sure our sister and brother-in-law won't mind."

Tang Jian and Lin Zao: "Brother is right. We're all family, there's no need for such formalities."

Lin Zao sat on the chair next to him, her smile almost faltering, her lips twitching slightly.

As soon as the couple arrived, they introduced themselves, and the Lin family pretended to be surprised, their hypocrisy was truly baffling.

Lin Zao felt that talking to this family was exhausting.

In fact, it wasn't just Lin Zao who found talking to them tiring; even Tang Jian was almost losing his composure after only a few words.

He was a rough and uncouth warrior on the battlefield. He spoke directly to his soldiers in the military camp and usually had a cold face when dealing with his subordinates.
