This is what the end of the world is like. Gradually, there will be all kinds of impacts. Even if nothing happens at the beginning, it will become more and more troublesome later.
There's no way to avoid this, because every drop in temperature brings about irreversible changes. Sometimes, a drop of 10 or 20 degrees Celsius might not seem like a big change, but in reality, for people living in this world, it can be incredibly stressful. It's hard to explain, but that's the reality. Zero degrees Celsius and -10 degrees Celsius definitely feel different, but -10 degrees Celsius and -30 degrees Celsius are also different. In the former, you can at least get outside and move around, but in the latter, you're practically freezing to death.
"It's getting colder today, the ground is frozen to ashes. It's really hard work for those who are still out there delivering supplies at this time. Has everyone received their supplies today? Check to see if there's anything missing or extra."
There's nothing particularly profound about this statement. It's simply because people are worried that they haven't received the supplies that everyone else has. You can take a little less, but you can't take less than others. The fact is that simple.
Basically, everyone has similar ideas. If others have these things, they must have them. If others don’t have them, they can have them. But if there is really no other way, then it is not impossible to endure it.
Everyone now agrees with this proposal. They want to know if they are any different from others in terms of material wealth. This is the foundation of their current lives. They don't care how difficult the lives of those in the south are. They just want to know if they will be unnecessarily affected by this. After all, for them, this is the real top priority.
"Did everyone get their candles? We each get one pack, which is a lot less than before. This thing wasn't worth much before, maybe because there were more in stock. Also, I noticed that some people's candles are bigger, and some are smaller. But anyway, it's still pretty nice to have this thing."
"We use candles like this at home, one per person. But we don't dare light them in every room at night, so we all gather together. The box will be warmer too. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but anyway, life is getting harder and harder. It will probably be difficult to eat fresh vegetables in the future, right? They've started distributing dry goods today."
"Yes, I used to have fresh Chinese cabbage and other things, but after coming here, those are no longer available. I don't know why, but the difference is really huge. If possible, it's better to avoid these things. But dried goods are really easier to store!"
But to be honest, it is actually easy to store and useless. After all, these things need water to soak. They are now using water reasonably for sightseeing. This is enough to drive them crazy, and they don’t know what to do.
"Can anyone tell me about the drinking water problem? I'm freaking out. I don't know what to do with all this stuff. Every time it gets messed up, I used to have some stockpiled, but now I really have nothing. Plus, we live on a high floor. Everyone's telling us to calm down and figure things out, but I'm almost ready to turn on the heater. What should I do? This has me at a loss as to where to get water. All the water I stockpiled has turned to ice lumps. Lately, I've been breaking it up and letting it melt before using it."
"It's similar at our house, but it's been snowing recently, so we can take the accumulated snow back and use it as water after it melts. It just feels a bit unclean, so didn't they give us water purification tablets this time? You can try them."
"I think the water's a problem, too. How can snowfall during the apocalypse be good? But there's nothing we can do right now. I heard the heating pipes in many places are broken, and everyone's being asked to move into underground workshops. Have you heard of this? I have a friend who lives in a remote area. They used to live in a village. It's not so bad for them; as long as they have fuel, they can keep their house warm. But right now, fuel might not be enough. Living together is safer."
"But now it seems like they can't get much heat in a day. They say it's like this every winter. The coldest temperatures there can reach minus 40 or 50 degrees Celsius. But now they say the temperature might be even colder than they've ever experienced. Even they don't know what to do. We, who have never experienced this kind of time, are like clueless fools who don't understand anything."
"I don't think we need to worry too much about this. As long as we know that there are people who are collectively managing it, then it hasn't reached a particularly dangerous point yet."
This is also the reason why there is no unrest in various places now. This is indeed what it means.
In fact, to be honest, the residents in the north are better off. They have enough food and other supplies every year. But for other ordinary people, it is very miserable. They don't have so many good things. So what should they do?
"Do you know anyone else in the south? Can you still contact them? I was able to contact them the day before yesterday, but now there's been no news. I don't know what's happened to them. Thinking about it, I feel a little worried. This is quite difficult. I really want to help them. But now that transportation is cut off, I don't know what to do."
