Chapter 52

Chapter 52

The morning light cut cold white stripes through the balcony glass and fell on the documents that Tang Ximian was flipping through his fingers.

The palpitations from last night's memories flooding back like a tide have not yet subsided. He stared at the yellowed photos in the file bag, and his fingertips gently stroked his younger self in the photo.

In the corner of the office, there are new green ivy shoots hanging down. Brother Tang Li specially asked someone to move them here - he said it is "pleasing to the eyes, and looking at more green things can relieve eye fatigue."

When the document turned to the third page, the solid wooden door was suddenly kicked open.

The hem of Si Yankai's windbreaker was caught in the wind from the corridor, his tie was crooked at his collarbone, and the ends of his hair were still stained with morning raindrops.

He strode to his desk, his knuckles tapping on it rapidly. "Mianmian, I have something urgent at home."

Tang Ximian quickly closed the document, and her eyelashes cast tiny shadows under her eyes.

"What's wrong? What happened?"

He looked at his lover's red eyes, stood up, and reached out to touch his frowning brows.

"I'm still unclear about the specific situation. I need to return home now."

Si Yankai leaned over and held his cold hand, his fingertips rubbing the faint red mark on his ring finger, "Wait here for me. Lao Zhou is downstairs, he will be responsible for your safety, remember, don't put yourself in danger-"

Before he could finish his words, Tang Ximian had already buried her head in his arms.

Si Yankai's heartbeat could be heard through his shirt, as rapid as thunder before a storm.

"I understand. Go ahead." Tang Ximian pushed his shoulders away, her voice muffled like wet paper. "Be careful. Remember to let me know you're safe!"

Si Yankai nodded and stroked the strands of hair on Tang Ximian's neck. Seeing the child like this made him feel uncomfortable, but there was nothing he could do. This time he really needed to go back and take charge of the situation.

"Wait for me to come back." Si Yankai's Adam's apple rolled, and he placed a restrained kiss on the top of his head. "This time... I won't make you wait too long."

When the footsteps disappeared at the end of the corridor, Tang Ximian seemed to come back to his senses and took out the necklace he had been wearing.

Tang Ximian took out the ring and put it on her hand, rubbing it unconsciously.

The leaves of the green radish were suddenly shaken by the wind.

Tang Ximian opened the drawer, revealing a pistol hidden under a document. On the handle of the gun was engraved a tiny abbreviation "SK" - those were the initials of Si Yankai's English name.

He gripped the gun, the coolness of the metal flowing through his palm into his body. The scene of raging fire, explosions, screams, the accusations of his family, and the pale figure of his brother lying motionless in the hospital kept flashing through his mind.

Everything should get the retribution it deserves.

"Walking side by side?" He whispered to the silent office, his fingertips stroking the safety catch of his pistol. "If I can get through this, maybe I can untie the knot in my heart and be myself without restraint."

"At that time, it may not necessarily be me chasing you."

The rain outside the window suddenly became heavier, and raindrops hit the glass. Si Yankai, who was already at the airport preparing to board the plane, felt a little impatient, but had to endure it. He patiently arranged the affairs of Country Y, handed over the tasks assigned to him by Tang Ximian to his capable subordinates, and learned about the major events happening in the family.

Si Yankai, who originally wanted to call his father, felt helpless when he saw the call was hung up before it got through, but he also realized the seriousness of the matter.

There are not many things that would make my father not answer my phone calls. It seems that things are more complicated than I thought.
