Chapter 59 Suffocation
"Is that all the strength you have? You can't even support a drunk person like me?"
Song Zhiwei glared at him irritably, a thin layer of sweat beading on her forehead.
"Mr. Sheng, you seem to be in good spirits. You're a grown man, tall and with long legs, you can stand up straight. Why do you have to pretend to be drunk and make me help you up? It's really inexplicable."
Sheng Tingzhou wasn't annoyed at all; instead, he moved even closer.
His voice was languid, with a slightly alluring husky tone at the end.
"I'll help you up. Why are you so resentful? I'm just being considerate and giving you a chance to get closer to your boss."
He paused, his deep voice becoming even softer.
"Who was it the night before last, so drunk they were practically swaying as they walked, trying to crawl into my arms? I kindly caught them, and today it's your turn to help me, and you look so unwilling? What a heartless little brat."
The way he looked at her seemed to carry a hint of grievance.
The deep voice slowly reached her ears.
Song Zhiwei froze, her pupils contracted, and her face was filled with shock.
Why did she suddenly throw herself into Sheng Tingzhou's arms?
Just then, under the dim yellow streetlights ahead...
Suddenly, a cold voice rang out: "What are you doing?"
Song Zhiwei subconsciously looked up and met Zhou Zhiwei and Mo Huaizhi walking quickly towards her from a distance.
Both of them walked with a hurried pace, their expressions quite different.
Zhou Zhiwei stared intently at the way the two of them were leaning against each other.
Mo Huaizhi was stunned, his pupils widening slightly.
Sheng Tingzhou actually held Song Zhiwei in his arms.
"Didn't you leave? Why are you back?"
"Get out of my way!"
Zhou Zhiwei roared angrily.
He rushed forward and forcefully pulled Sheng Tingzhou away from Song Zhiwei.
Immediately afterwards, he clenched his fist and swung it fiercely at Sheng Tingzhou's face.
Sheng Tingzhou's eyes turned cold, his pupils contracted slightly, and he quickly took half a step back, his figure flashing as he easily dodged the swift punch.
Mo Huaizhi was terrified; his heart clenched suddenly.
Seeing that Zhou Zhiwei was still not giving up, he raised his fist again.
Without thinking twice, he rushed over and hugged Zhou Zhiwei tightly, pulling her backward with all his might.
"Zhiwei! Calm down! Don't be impulsive! Now is not the time to fight!"
He knew that if these two really started fighting, the entire city of Yancheng would be in an uproar tomorrow.
"Let go! Mo Huaizhi!"
Zhou Zhiwei's cheeks were flushed an unnatural red from drinking alcohol.
He was still struggling, his arm muscles tense.
Song Zhiwei's heart was pounding wildly as she watched the scene unfold before her.
My uncle is usually gentle and refined, speaks softly, and is always composed in his interactions with others.
She had never seen him so out of control, and for a moment she was at a loss for what to do.
She quickly stepped forward, wanting to explain clearly:
Uncle, you've misunderstood. It's not what you think. What we just did... wasn't what you saw!
Before she could finish speaking, Sheng Tingzhou swiftly pulled her behind him.
He stared coldly at Zhou Zhiwei.
"What? You're starting to lose your temper after drinking too much? You think you can do whatever you want just because you're drunk?"
Zhou Zhiwei stared intently at him with bloodshot eyes.
"I watched Zhiwei grow up. You touched her like that, held her in your arms. I'd be lenient if I hit you! You don't deserve to touch her at all!"
Sheng Tingzhou laughed instead, but his laughter was cold and devoid of any warmth.
He stood ramrod straight, his expression calm, and countered, "How did I touch her? Explain yourself. Did I hold her hand? Or hug her? Or do you feel offended simply because she's near me?"
You know perfectly well!
Zhou Zhiwei practically gritted her teeth as she said those words.
He was a man, so he naturally understood what a man meant to a woman.
That intimate distance, that protective posture, is something that ordinary relationships would never have.
Especially the way Sheng Tingzhou looked at Song Zhiwei.
The last time I saw them together in the private room, the atmosphere was already off.
Song Zhiwei lowered her head and remained silent, while Sheng Tingzhou sat beside her, his posture casual yet exuding a sense of control.
At that moment, a sense of unease inexplicably rose in his heart.
Sheng Tingzhou chuckled, his expression indifferent.
"Zhou Zhiwei, you're just her uncle, there's no blood relation, not even a legal relative. She's not your daughter, nor your sister. Why are you meddling so much?"
Seeing that Zhou Zhiwei was about to break free and pounce on him again.
Mo Huaizhi quickly increased his strength and held him tightly.
"Zhiwei! Don't be impulsive! Rushing in like this will only make things worse!"
While forcefully suppressing the other person's struggles, he spoke rapidly, urging, "We've been brothers for so many years, don't you know what kind of person Tingzhou is? What kind of personality does he have? There must be a reason why he did this. Calm down and let me finish!"
"There must be some misunderstanding, right, Zhiwei?"
He turned his head and looked at Song Zhiwei with eager eyes.
"Help me, try to calm him down."
The implication in his eyes couldn't be clearer.
Song Zhiwei felt a chill run down her spine, her fingertips were icy cold, and her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of her throat.
"Uncle, it's not what you think. Mr. Sheng drank too much tonight, he could barely stand. I was just helping him up, I didn't mean anything by it..."
"Oh!"
Zhou Zhiwei suddenly broke free from Mo Huaizhi's embrace.
His eyes were bloodshot, and his chest was heaving violently.
"You're a girl, hugging a man like this, with your arms around his shoulders and half your body pressed against him. What kind of image do you project to others? If word gets out, how will you ever face anyone? Do you even care about your reputation?"
He approached step by step.
"Come with me. Let's go now, and I won't let you stay in this kind of place and embarrass yourself any longer."
"Assistant Song, please take me home."
Sheng Tingzhou stood behind her.
He leaned against the door frame, his tie loose.
Song Zhiwei stood there, her mind a complete mess.
She looked at Zhou Zhiwei's cold, emotionless face, her brows furrowed with disappointment.
The words Qiao Yiqing had said that day echoed in my ears again.
“Zhiwei, Zhou Zhiwei, that person, there has only ever been one person in his heart, and that is himself.”
She didn't believe it then, but now she feels that perhaps everything was destined a long time ago.
A certain inexplicable emotion, like a thin thread, tugged back and forth in her heart, causing sharp pain.
Looking at the "man" she once looked up to, she felt a pang of sadness in her heart, so much so that she could hardly breathe.
She bit her lip, tasted a hint of blood on her tongue, and finally mustered her courage.
"Uncle, please don't make things difficult for me, okay?"
“I’m not a child anymore. I know what I should and shouldn’t do. If you think I’m wrong, I’ll apologize. But please… stop treating me like a little sister who needs your protection.”
Even if he and Qiao Yiqing had broken up, even if their relationship had ended.
She also understood that there was never any possibility between her and him.
It's not because I don't love you, but because I understand you too well.
He was the darling of the world, the center of attention.
She was merely a distant relative fostered by the Zhou family, an outsider who was dispensable.
She couldn't bear the weight of gossip, nor could she enter that glamorous circle.
