Chapter 53 Who Can't Let Her Go!
Cheng Yao was stunned for a moment, "How can you turn on me so suddenly?"
"Don't make me say it again, get out!"
Cheng Yao got angry and cursed, "You're crazy!"
Then, she stood up from the sofa and threw a cushion at him as she left, but Xu Jialan didn't react.
Cheng Yao opened the door and left, wearing high heels.
The sound of high heels tapping on the ground gradually decreased until it disappeared.
The house fell completely silent.
Xu Jialan felt a sudden emptiness and exhaustion welling up inside him. He slumped onto the sofa, burying his face in the soft fabric, as if he could still smell Chen Yao'an's lingering scent.
When he opened his eyes again, it was already the afternoon of the next day. The hangover and the cramped sofa made him feel uncomfortable all over and his head was throbbing.
He sat up and took a while to catch his breath before looking up and realizing that this was not his home at all.
Last night, T's memories came flooding back. He remembered calling the landlord in the middle of the night to ask for the door lock code.
He pressed his brow, annoyed at his own behavior.
Could he be any more stupid?
He stood up, deliberately avoiding looking around the house, and quickly opened the door to go back to his own home.
A dozen minutes later, the sound of a combination lock being opened came from room 1806.
With a click, the door opened, and Xu Jialan walked in, standing in the entryway and looking around.
The sun is shining brightly today, making the living room very bright.
He took off his shoes, bent down and opened the shoe cabinet in the entryway. Inside were two pairs of slippers, one pair belonging to Chen Yao'an and the other his, the pair he always wore when he came to her place.
He reached out and took out the men's slippers, placed them on the floor, took off his shoes and put them on, then walked into the living room and sat down on the sofa.
After staring blankly for a while, his gaze shifted downwards and he happened to catch a glimpse of a stain left on the sofa.
He remembered that stain very clearly.
That day, Chen Yao'an was sitting on the sofa working on her drawings when he noticed her licking her lips repeatedly. So he went to the kitchen and poured her a glass of juice.
When he returned, he placed the glass of juice in front of her, blocking her view of the screen, and said, "Have some water first."
Chen Yao'an didn't even have time to drink water. Director Li urgently needed this picture, so she said, "Wait a moment."
Then, she raised her hand and pushed his arm.
The juice in the glass overflowed and spilled onto the fabric sofa.
She exclaimed in alarm, "Oh no! The landlord's sofa!"
She hurriedly put down her laptop, grabbed some tissues to wipe it, and exclaimed, "This will cost me money!"
Xu Jialan didn't take it seriously, saying, "Even if we lose money, it won't be much."
Chen Yao'an strongly disagreed, went to the bathroom to get cleaning fluid and a brush, and scrubbed the sofa for a long time.
"You forgot, the landlord said when we rented the place that this sofa wasn't cheap."
"Don't listen to her nonsense. This sofa looks like it's been used for a long time. It's probably just something that's not used and is just placed here." He didn't take it seriously.
"That's not cheap either."
Xu Jialan stopped her, "Alright, if you keep brushing like this, you'll ruin it."
Chen Yaoan then stopped and looked down to examine it carefully. "It's ruined. It looks like it's really badly brushed. The edges are all frayed."
She had a long face, but Xu Jialan burst out laughing.
"Don't worry, I'll help you pay it back."
Fortunately, after the sofa dried, there were no visible signs of damage, only a stain.
Thinking of this, Xu Jialan couldn't help but chuckle. She subconsciously walked to the kitchen, intending to pour herself a glass of fruit juice, but when she opened the refrigerator, she found it to be completely empty.
He then realized what was happening.
Oh, she's already gone.
The smile on his face gradually faded.
He closed the refrigerator door, but as he was about to leave, he noticed a piece of sticky note sticking out from the bottom of the refrigerator. He bent down and picked it up.
The above is Chen Yao'an's handwriting:
I left some food for you in the refrigerator.
Xu Jialan can't cook, so Chen Yaoan always leaves some food for him in the refrigerator before he goes to work.
She left this note several days ago.
He stared at it for a long time, then held the note in his hand, suddenly turned around and went upstairs. He opened the wardrobe upstairs, only to find it empty; the clothes were gone.
He hurried downstairs again, glanced at the dressing table, and saw that the box on it was gone. He stood there stunned for a few seconds.
I remember now, he told the landlord to take all his belongings with her yesterday and let her do whatever she wanted with them.
Xu Jialan rubbed her forehead and immediately took out her phone to call the landlord.
The landlady was still holding a grudge against him for calling her late last night, and her tone wasn't friendly as she asked, "What do you want to call again?"
His first question was, "Where did those three pieces of clothing go in wardrobe 1806?"
Faced with his questioning, the landlord panicked for a moment, thinking he was going to cause trouble, and hurriedly said, "Didn't you say you didn't want it anymore and told me to do whatever I wanted with it?"
"So, how did you handle it?"
"Sold...sold." She put it on a second-hand platform for sale.
"Sold?"
"Yes...yes." The deal was just completed this morning, and the clothes have already been shipped out.
"Who did you sell it to?"
"I don't know her. I sold the clothes online, and I've already sent them to her."
"Give me her contact information."
"Huh? Why do you need her contact information?"
“Give me her contact information,” Xu Jialan repeated.
The landlord had no choice but to send the buyer's contact information and order details after obtaining the buyer's consent.
Xu Jialan had a lot of trouble contacting the buyer. At first, when he called, the other party decisively refused his request to return the goods and even scolded him.
"Are you brainless? Or did a dog eat your brain? If you don't want to sell, why put it up for sale in the first place!"
His face darkened; he had never been insulted like that before, but he endured it.
He took a deep breath.
After making several phone calls, Xu Jialan directly stated her conditions, "What if I offer double the price?"
The other party paused for a moment, clearly somewhat tempted.
"You don't need to return it. I'll buy the clothes back at twice the price. What do you think?"
Is there really such a good thing in the world?
The other party thought to himself, "Is this guy stupid? He's letting the seller make money for nothing, even though the item originally belonged to him."
She agreed decisively in less than a second, "Okay, we'll exchange money for goods when they arrive."
"good."
The buyer was also in Beijing, which made things much easier. Xu Jialan received the clothes from the buyer the next day.
The clothes were intact.
After receiving the clothes, Xu Jialan hung them back in the wardrobe in room 1806. After hanging them up, he leaned against the foot of the bed and stared at the clothes for a long time.
But the more she thought about it, the angrier she became. What did Chen Yao'an mean by leaving without saying goodbye?
Is it really unnecessary to tell him before leaving?
He exhaled heavily, suppressing the anger rising in his chest.
That night, Xu Jialan didn't go back to the next room; she went straight to sleep in room 1806.
The next morning, he was woken up by the noise downstairs, so he went downstairs in his pajamas.
The three people downstairs were startled by his sudden appearance.
"What are you doing here?" The landlady looked utterly dejected.
The other two were a young couple who had come to see the apartment. They were quite shocked when they saw the situation. "What on earth is going on?"
The landlady was embarrassed. "He's the tenant next door."
"Then why are you here? It's terrifying, it's creepy, we're not renting it anymore." After saying that, the two hurriedly fled the place.
Pervert? Does he look like a pervert?
The landlord looked helplessly at Xu Jialan standing on the stairs and questioned, "What exactly do you want?"
Xu Jialan bent down and leaned on the stair railing, looking down at the landlord. "I should be asking you, what are you doing bringing people here to see the house? I didn't say I was renting it."
His tone was cold and intimidating.
"Do you want to earn two rents?"
The landlord hurriedly defended himself: "You weren't drunk that night. I thought you were just saying it casually. Besides, we didn't sign a contract."
Xu Jialan walked down the stairs. "I remember we signed a one-month contract. As far as I can recall, there are still a few days left before it expires. I guess you didn't return the money for the remaining days."
The landlord didn't dare say anything more and sat down on the sofa. "You can stay if you want, or you can renew the lease if you want. It's up to you."
Xu Jialan then managed a slight twitch at the corner of her mouth.
The landlord looked at him and couldn't help but chime in, "By the way, did your girlfriend break up with you? Why do you insist on staying in her room?"
"She's not my girlfriend."
"So you like her? If you're a grown man, just go after her. Stop dawdling like this. You're not a little girl."
Xu Jialan paused in her drinking, then said with displeasure, "What do you know?"
The landlord stood up from the sofa and said sarcastically, "I know she didn't tell you; she just left without a word."
He frowned, a fire burning within him about to erupt.
"I'm leaving now. Remember to call me if you want to renew your contract."
The sound of a door closing echoed from inside the room.
Xu Jialan's thoughts were still on what the landlord had just said.
Does she hate him that much?
They didn't even say goodbye when they left.
For the next two days, Xu Jialan stayed in room 1806 and hardly went out.
The following evening, feeling stifled and upset, Xu Jialan invited Xu Yan out for drinks.
Xu Yan arrived rather late. By the time he got there, Xu Jialan had already been drinking alone for a while, and there were already several empty beer bottles on the table.
He glanced at Xu Jialan's face; she was still upset.
After he sat down, he deliberately asked, "What happened between you and that woman named Cheng Yao that night?"
Xu Jialan didn't move her head, but glanced at him sideways, "You're just going to let me go with her?"
"Otherwise what? I asked you, but you chose to do it yourself."
Xu Jialan glanced at him again, then said nothing more.
Xu Yan opened another bottle of wine and took a sip.
Xu Jialan slumped on the sofa, looking listless, and just kept drinking alone.
"What? You asked me out but didn't say anything, making me drink with thin air?"
He then straightened up, reached out and touched hands with him, took a big gulp of wine, and the excess wine slid down his lips, passing over his prominent Adam's apple.
He choked on the alcohol halfway through and coughed incessantly.
Xu Yan sighed softly and said, "Why are you doing this? If you can't let go, go find her."
It took Xu Jialan a while to finally recover before she slumped back into the sofa.
"Who can't let her go! I'm just angry!"
Xu Yan shook his head. "Fine, you're just angry."
Finally, she said leisurely, "You can't let her go? Then why did you go through all this trouble these past few days?"
Xu Jialan fell silent for a long time before making a move.
He suddenly stood up from the sofa.
Where are you going?
"I'll go ask her why she left without saying goodbye!"
Upon hearing this, Xu Yan shook his head.
