Chapter 12 Convergence All of this felt somewhat unreal. ...
"Take a look first," Song Yanqing handed the folder to Jiang Xinglan, "and we'll talk after you've read it."
Jiang Xinglan took out a stack of documents—the top one was a project proposal, a project proposal related to film and television.
She looked up at her tutor, puzzled.
"You take a look first."
Jiang Xinglan opened the project proposal and began to read.
As she flipped through the pages, Jiang Xinglan's brows furrowed as if they were tied in a knot.
Jiang Xinglan closed the project proposal, placed it aside, and remained silent.
“I know you don’t like it, but as you can see, this project was strongly promoted by your senior brother Li,” Song Yanqing said with a smile. “He called yesterday specifically to say that he hopes you can serve as a scientific advisor in the field of biology. He said that he understands your rigor, and that’s why he feels at ease.”
Jiang Xinglan remained silent because she saw Senior Brother Li's name.
From an official standpoint, she couldn't refuse a task directly assigned by her superiors.
Personally, when I first joined Song Yanqing's research group, it was Senior Brother Li Luo who mentored me. Later, Senior Brother Li moved to the research department and helped me a lot with my research project.
Seeing that Jiang Xinglan had already figured it out, Song Yanqing turned to a certain page of the project proposal and pointed it out to her, "Furthermore, this project is a key science popularization project this year. Your participation in this project will be of great help to your future applications for research projects and funding."
“I understand,” Jiang Xinglan said, “but I’ll only be responsible for the professional aspects, not appear on camera. As for security…”
"Don't worry about that, everything will be fully prepared," Song Yanqing assured him. "All outsiders can only move around within designated areas with their passes. At the same time, a physical barrier will be set up between the old research institute and our side, and a dedicated person will be in charge."
"Okay!" Jiang Xinglan nodded, took the project proposal, said goodbye to Song Yanqing, and left his office.
About a week later, Jiang Xinglan added the project manager, Producer Song, as a contact.
First, he pulled me into a large group of hundreds of people, and then he pulled me into a smaller group—the "Starlight Never Fails" filming project group.
About ten minutes later, the notification to join the group disappeared.
Immediately afterwards, a message was sent in the group chat:
Director Liu Xing'an: "Hello everyone, I am the director of the 'Starlight Never Fails' segment. Tomorrow morning at 10:00, I will be holding the first research training session at Jinghua University. Please attend on time. If there are any time conflicts, please make adjustments accordingly or inform me in time."
Then came a series of receipts.
Unexpectedly, Jiang Xinglan saw a familiar image inside—a picture of a street lamp glowing in the dim night.
Jiang Xinglan clicked on it, and sure enough, it was Shen Yuheng.
I never expected Shen Yuheng to be involved in this project.
However, considering Shen Yuheng's professional abilities and his attention to academic developments, his involvement is quite reasonable.
When Jiang Xinglan opened the chat window with him, a faint smile was already on her face, one that she herself was unaware of.
Before I could even communicate with him, Director Liu sent me a message privately.
Director Liu: "Is Teacher Jiang free to attend tomorrow?"
J_Stella: "Tomorrow is Monday, we have a group meeting."
Director Liu: "That's really unfortunate, otherwise we could have had Teacher Jiang come up on stage to give some guidance as well."
J_Stella: "I checked, and Director Liu invited Professor Zhao. Professor Zhao is a leading figure in our field. If I finish early tomorrow, I will definitely attend."
Director Liu: "Okay, I look forward to Professor Jiang's attendance. Tomorrow we'll probably be working quite late, so Professor Jiang should be able to make it."
J_Stella: "Okay."
After talking with Director Liu, Jiang Xinglan put down her phone and began preparing for tomorrow's group meeting.
After replying "received", Shen Yuheng began to sort out the difficult problems he had encountered in his studies recently.
At nine o'clock the next morning, Jiang Xinglan began to chair the weekly group meeting.
"As you've probably heard, I need to dedicate some of my time and energy to a project soon," Jiang Xinglan said directly to the team members. "Until this project is finished, all groups in the lab should proceed with the experiments according to the established plan. There's no need to rush; just focus on stability."
"In addition, I may visit the lab less frequently during filming. I will leave the daily management to Su Wan. If you encounter any issues that you cannot resolve, please contact me promptly."
Jiang Xinglan spoke clearly and quickly, making arrangements to ensure the smooth operation of the laboratory.
After the arrangements were made, the focus of the group meeting shifted to the routine reports and discussions of each group.
While Jiang Xinglan was discussing with the lab members, the group of actors discreetly went to the teaching laboratory of Jinghua University.
With the help of the school, it did not cause too much of a commotion.
When I successfully arrived at the classroom, it was not yet time for class.
Shen Yuheng, sitting in the front row, whispered to Wei Yu next to him, "Brother Wei, you haven't found out who our unit's research advisor is yet!"
Wei Yu shook his head. "It's not just our unit; the research advisors for the other units haven't been announced either. It looks like we'll only find out on the day of filming."
A hint of melancholy crept into Shen Yuheng's expression.
Sitting in a classroom at Peking University, he would always think of her.
Perhaps she had also attended classes in this classroom and asked the teacher questions.
Shen Yuheng suddenly felt a little regretful; he regretted that he had never seen what she looked like during her student days.
---
Around midnight, Jiang Xinglan paused the group meeting and told the group members to go eat.
By the time everything was over, it was almost 2 p.m. Jiang Xinglan returned to her office, tidied up briefly, and sat on the sofa, sorting out her thoughts.
"Knock knock knock—"
A knock sounded at the door, and Song Yu peeked out from behind it. "Senior Sister..."
Jiang Xinglan looked up and asked, "What's wrong? Is there another problem?"
"No." Song Yu pushed open the door and entered, somewhat embarrassed.
"Please have a seat," Jiang Xinglan said gently.
After Song Yu sat down, she carefully looked Jiang Xinglan over before speaking, "I saw online that Shen Yuheng appeared at Jinghua University."
Jiang Xinglan paused in packing her things. "Were we photographed by fans?"
“Yes,” Song Yu nodded, “But don’t worry, senior sister, it wasn’t posted online. I only saw it in the group because I’m a long-time fan of his.”
Jiang Xinglan breathed a sigh of relief imperceptibly. "So, what are you trying to say?"
"Senior sister just mentioned that filming project... Is Shen Yuheng involved as well?" Song Yu asked cautiously.
Jiang Xinglan didn't speak, but stared at Song Yu for a long time before finally saying, "Hmm."
"Yes! I knew it!" Song Yu's tone instantly became excited. "Then, senior sister, could you take me along—"
Meeting Jiang Xinglan's calm gaze, Song Yu subconsciously fell silent, calming herself before slowly speaking, "Could you help me get an autographed photo?"
“Song Yu, you are a scientific researcher first, and then a fangirl,” Jiang Xinglan pushed the health pot that she almost touched further in. “I hope that you will always try your best to stay calm.”
"As for your autographed photo, I'll ask for it for you when I have the chance, but this is a one-time thing, and it won't happen again."
"Yay!" Song Yu couldn't contain her excitement and gave a small cheer after leaving Jiang Xinglan's office.
But Song Yu didn't know that all of her actions were observed by Jiang Xinglan, who had followed her out.
Jiang Xinglan shook her head helplessly and coughed lightly, "Ahem."
Song Yu's body tensed instantly. She turned around stiffly and mechanically raised her right hand. "Hey, senior sister, are you going out?"
Jiang Xinglan nodded. "I have a training session to attend later."
"Then, take care, senior sister!" Song Yu said with a big smile.
Jiang Xinglan glanced at her and said, "You two take care of yourselves. I'm leaving now."
Just now, during the meeting, Director Liu sent her a message asking when it would end, but Jiang Xinglan did not reply in time.
So Director Liu left a message saying that today's training would not end until 5 o'clock.
So Jiang Xinglan sent a message to Director Liu and decided to drive directly to Jinghua University.
When Jiang Xinglan arrived at the laboratory, it was just 2:30 pm. Everyone was focused on the blackboard, immersed in Professor Zhao's explanation.
Jiang Xinglan stood at the back door, looking into the classroom, and met Professor Zhao's smiling gaze.
Jiang Xinglan smiled and nodded, then waved a simple greeting before slipping to the back row to sit down.
Then we heard Professor Zhao's voice, "Perfect timing, your research advisor has arrived!"
Professor Zhao looked towards the back of the classroom, his voice tinged with amusement, "I spent half the morning explaining the theory, but whether your practical skills on set are up to standard will be judged by our Associate Professor Jiang Xinglan!"
Almost instantly, the eyes of the entire classroom, like spotlights used in filming, focused on Jiang Xinglan.
Upon hearing the name "Jiang Xinglan," Shen Yuheng, sitting in the front row, instinctively turned his head to look at the back of the classroom, following Professor Zhao's gaze.
The person he had been longing for day and night was now standing right at the door, bathed in the warm afternoon sun.
It all felt somewhat unreal.
His gaze followed her intently as she gracefully walked to the classroom podium, nodded to Professor Zhao again, and then looked at the crowd below the stage, meeting his eyes.
"Good afternoon, everyone. I am Jiang Xinglan, and one of the research consultants for this episode of 'Starlight Never Fails'. It's a pleasure to meet you all here. I look forward to your guidance during the filming process."
As Jiang Xinglan stood on the stage speaking, she habitually looked at the seat she often sat in as a student, only to meet a pair of eyes filled with shock.
However, the emotions contained in those eyes were too direct and too intense. Jiang Xinglan didn't have time to discern them and subconsciously looked away to finish her speech.
