Chapter 13 Regret seems to be a blessing in disguise
But for no apparent reason, Jiang Xinglan's gaze once again swept past the direction where Shen Yuheng was.
The intense emotions that Jiang Xinglan had sensed from his eyes just now seemed to be just an illusion at this moment.
This time, she saw surprise, followed by a gentle smile that slowly spread across her face.
Shen Yuheng did not expect Jiang Xinglan to withdraw her gaze so quickly.
But what he didn't expect was her looking back again.
This time, he suppressed his emotions, feeling only pure surprise and joy at the reunion.
Professor Zhao, standing beside him, naturally noticed the exchange of glances between the two, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.
After half a day of lectures, Professor Zhao could clearly see that the actor Shen Yuheng had obviously done his homework.
They were serious during the training, and the questions they asked were quite insightful.
Later, when he casually mentioned knowledge related to Alzheimer's disease, the man listened even more attentively.
He originally thought that Shen Yuheng was only interested in this matter, but it turns out that his real intention was not what he thought.
Young people these days!
Professor Zhao shook his head very slightly. "Then let Xinglan tell you about it, and let this old man rest for a bit."
“Okay,” Jiang Xinglan nodded with a smile, looking at Professor Zhao’s slightly tired expression. “Then Professor Zhao, please take a rest.”
Jiang Xinglan took the materials from Professor Zhao, briefly handed them over, and then continued her explanation according to the contents of the materials.
Perhaps because of Jiang Xinglan's age, the older people present all had a hint of doubt in their eyes.
However, as she explained, all these doubts vanished.
Jiang Xinglan spoke in a light and clear tone, conveying the obscure and difficult information to everyone in a simple and straightforward way, and these people listened without even realizing it.
However, for Shen Yuheng, the regret that arose in his heart that morning was now soothed.
Shen Yuheng looked at the person standing on the podium, and for a moment he seemed to return to that afternoon, seeing her talking eloquently in front of the experimental equipment.
It seems like a blessing that I couldn't be her classmate or her student.
Jiang Xinglan closed the last page of the document. "That concludes today's topics. Does anyone have any further questions?"
The audience shook their heads. Jiang Xinglan knew that it was normal for many people to be unable to digest so much specialized knowledge all at once.
“So, if you have any questions later, you can always @ me in the group,” Jiang Xinglan said, then turned to Professor Zhao beside her, “Professor Zhao, is there anything else you’d like to add?”
Professor Zhao walked to the lectern and said, "I have nothing to add."
He glanced at Jiang Xinglan as she stepped down from the podium. "That's all for today!"
Applause immediately filled every corner of the classroom.
Professor Zhao slightly raised his hand to stop everyone's movements and indicated that everyone could pack up and leave.
"Xiao Jiang, it's been more than two years since we last met, hasn't it?" Professor Zhao turned his head and exchanged pleasantries with Jiang Xinglan.
“I think so,” Jiang Xinglan recalled. “The last time I saw you was at a seminar. I didn’t realize it had been so long.”
"Yes, time flies! I still remember when you were a student, sitting down there listening to the lecture. If I remember correctly, it was the same seat that actor surnamed Shen was sitting in today."
“Shen Yuheng,” Jiang Xinglan reminded him.
“Yes! Shen Yuheng! You always sat here when you were in school,” Professor Zhao said with a teasing expression that Jiang Xinglan couldn’t understand. “I never thought you would become a capable laboratory director.”
Jiang Xinglan smiled but didn't say anything.
"However, I heard from you, Li Luo, that your experiments haven't been going very well lately?" Professor Zhao said, looking at Li Luo who was walking over.
"How did it all get to Old Zhao's side?" Jiang Xinglan laughed. "It is indeed a bit unsuccessful, but it's still within an acceptable range."
"If I hadn't been a step too late back then, you might be my student now," Professor Zhao said, his tone tinged with both admiration and a hint of regret.
"And you too!" Professor Zhao said irritably, looking at Li Luo who was gloating beside him. "Old Song 'stole' it too!"
Li Luo was clearly taken aback; the fire had suddenly spread to him, and he was momentarily stunned.
This time, Professor Zhao and Jiang Xinglan laughed.
"Look at your clueless look, it's a good thing I didn't take you in back then," Professor Zhao said with some disdain, but then softened in the next second, and said to Jiang Xinglan, "I also studied adenovirus for a period of time in my early years, and I have some insights. I'll show them to you later."
"Thank you, Elder Zhao." Jiang Xinglan leaned forward slightly and bowed to him.
"Don't mention it!" Professor Zhao waved his hand dismissively. "We're all getting old. In the future, we'll have to rely on your generation."
“Old Zhao, you’re not right,” Li Luo said, regaining his composure. “I think you’re in very good health and can guide us for a long time to come!”
"You brat!" Professor Zhao's lingering dejection vanished completely, and he slapped Li Luo on the shoulder. "It's a good thing I didn't marry you back then, or you would have driven me crazy sooner or later!"
Li Luo's mixed-up jokes made the dull atmosphere light and pleasant.
When it was time to leave, Shen Yuheng wanted to go up and say hello, but he saw that Jiang Xinglan and Professor Zhao were having a great time chatting.
He didn't want to rush forward and disturb them, so he just waited on the side.
“Yuheng, we can’t wait any longer,” Wei Yu glanced at the time and whispered in Shen Yuheng’s ear, “It’s already 5:10. The event starts promptly at 6:00. If we walk that way, it will take at least half an hour without traffic. If we wait any longer, we’ll be too late.”
Shen Yuheng watched the three people chatting happily and figured it wouldn't be over anytime soon.
“Alright,” Shen Yuheng sighed and walked up to Director Liu. “Director Liu, I have another event to attend and need to leave immediately. Please convey my apologies to Professor Zhao and the other two for me.”
"Okay, sure!" Director Liu readily agreed. "Don't worry, Yuheng, I'll definitely pass on the message. You can go ahead and get busy."
"Yes, thank you, Director Liu!" Shen Yuheng said sincerely.
As he turned around, Shen Yuheng glanced in Jiang Xinglan's direction one last time before leaving.
Jiang Xinglan naturally noticed the departing figures of Shen Yuheng and Wei Yu.
She watched Shen Yuheng's figure disappear through the back door, and in that moment of distraction, she couldn't keep up with Li Luo's words.
Just then, Director Liu walked over with two other people.
"Professor Zhao, Teacher Li, Teacher Jiang, we're planning to have dinner together later. Would you three do us the honor of joining us?"
Without a second thought, Professor Zhao politely declined, saying, "Director Liu, there's no need for that."
Li Luo then whispered to Jiang Xinglan about the identity of the newcomer.
"What about Teacher Li and Teacher Jiang?" Producer Sun turned his gaze over.
As one of the project leaders, Li Luo naturally had to go.
He remained silent because he didn't want to put Jiang Xinglan in a difficult position because of his own actions.
Producer Sun's eyes lit up as he understood the key point, and he continued, "We're about to start filming, Mr. Jiang, would you like to take this opportunity to get to know the crew members, which will make things easier for the subsequent work."
Jiang Xinglan hesitated for a moment, although she did not like this kind of occasion.
However, what Producer Sun said was not without merit; he should take this opportunity to get to know the team he would be working with.
“Okay!” Just as Li Luo was about to speak up for Jiang Xinglan to decline, Jiang Xinglan nodded and readily accepted the invitation.
Director Liu immediately smiled and said, "That's great! 7:30 pm, Shiweixuan. If there are any changes, we will notify you in the group chat in time."
"Um."
Having successfully invited Li Luo and Jiang Xinglan, Director Liu had fulfilled his expectations and decided to leave first.
Just as they were leaving, Director Liu suddenly said, "Look at my memory, Yuheng just asked me to convey my apologies to the three of you."
Director Liu's gaze frequently swept over Jiang Xinglan. "Yuheng had an event to attend, so I left early without saying goodbye to the three of you. I hope you will forgive me."
Seeing Director Liu's expression, Professor Zhao immediately understood who Shen Yuheng was referring to, and thus spoke up to smooth things over for Shen Yuheng.
"It's a good thing for young people to have their own careers, it's a good thing!"
"Alright, I'm glad you don't mind, Mr. Zhao. I'll be going now. See you at Shiweixuan later."
After Director Liu and the others left, the classroom became empty, leaving only the three of them.
"How about my junior sister picks me up later?" Li Luo suggested.
"You're a grown man, how can you be so shameless!" Professor Zhao spoke up before Jiang Xinglan could even open her mouth.
"I was just thinking that if we need to drink something, Junior Sister Jiang will have a reason to refuse!" Li Luo said, his voice tinged with a hint of grievance.
Professor Zhao was taken aback by those words, "At least you're somewhat like a senior student!"
Jiang Xinglan watched the two bickering in front of her, just like seeing Senior Brother Li and their teacher arguing back then.
Jiang Xinglan said helplessly, "Old Zhao, you've had a long day. Why don't my senior brother and I take you home first?"
"Let me call Professor Wu first and ask." Professor Zhao took out his phone, found the number, and dialed it.
A few minutes later, Professor Zhao came over. "Xinglan, could you please go to the North Gate to pick up Professor Wu first, and then take us there?"
"Of course, no problem."
"Then I'll give you some information about adenovirus," Professor Zhao said as the three walked toward the parking lot.
"There's still some time before your dinner party, so you can ask me anything you don't understand during this time."
"Then I'll have to trouble you two professors," Jiang Xinglan readily agreed.
It was almost 7 o'clock when Jiang Xinglan and Li Luo got back into the car.
The two then drove to Shiweixuan.
"You know Shen Yuheng?"
