Knowing that she had married the deposed crown prince, Su Wan suddenly wanted to bang her head against a wall again to see if she could travel back in time.
If she married a peasant, she could easily escape quietly if she found an opportunity. But how could she escape after marrying a deposed crown prince?
Even if the crown prince is deposed, he's still famous throughout the land. If people find out she was once married to the deposed crown prince, she's completely finished. She was jostled around so much on the way that she couldn't run away, and now she probably won't have the chance.
Historically, few deposed crown princes met a peaceful end. They were usually killed by the emperor under various pretexts not long after being deposed, to prevent any unforeseen complications.
It sounds like the outsiders are assassins. What a bad year! Could this time next year be my death anniversary?
A vulgar laugh rang out from outside the sedan chair. One of them said, "Boss, I wonder what kind of woman he married. If she's beautiful, could you give her to me?"
“Don’t forget the important business. Kill the deposed crown prince first,” another said. “We’ll take the money and do the job. Once we’ve done it, we brothers can enjoy the women together.”
The foul language outside made Su Wan's heart tighten. She quickly picked up the veil and put it over her head again, then quietly lifted the curtain a crack to look outside.
The sedan chair bearers and musicians had long since vanished without a trace, leaving debris scattered all over the ground.
Not far from the bridal sedan chair stood five burly men, each carrying a steel knife and with a fierce expression. They looked like ruthless villains who had tasted blood.
Su Wan closed the curtains, her heart pounding, cold sweat trickling down her temples.
She dared to target Yang Yaozu before because Yang Yaozu was a lecherous weakling, and she took advantage of his laxity and lack of vigilance to succeed.
These five men in front of her were not only burly and strong, but they were also wielding gleaming steel knives. They were definitely not someone she could handle.
Fortunately, there was a capable fighter named Wei Jingzhuo standing in front of the sedan chair.
The Crown Prince is skilled in both literature and martial arts. Even if he is deposed, his martial arts skills must still be intact. He should be more than capable of dealing with these guys, right?
As she was comforting herself, the sound of a sword slowly being drawn rang out from outside the sedan chair, followed by a person's mocking laughter.
"Wei Jingzhuo, are you drawing your sword to resist? Hahaha, that's hilarious! With your hands trembling like this, how can you even hold a sword steady?"
Su Wan was startled.
Wasn't she married into this family to bring good luck to this sickly prince? No matter how skilled a sickly man is in martial arts, how could he possibly defeat five assassins?
Once Wei Jingzhuo dies, it will be her turn next.
Staying inside the sedan chair would be a certain death sentence. Going out and resisting alongside Wei Jingzhuo might offer a chance for survival.
She mustered her courage, took a bottle of sulfuric acid from the pharmacy, held it in her hand, pushed open the sedan curtain, and jumped down.
"Your Highness, let me help..."
Bang!
The man in front of the sedan chair was retreating towards the curtain with his sword in hand when she suddenly lunged out of the sedan chair, her face colliding with the man's back, causing him to stumble.
Su Wan stood there awkwardly, holding the sulfuric acid bottle, thinking, "I really didn't mean to. His Highness the Crown Prince is weak; I hope he didn't break it."
The five men burst into laughter upon seeing this.
"Is the bride perhaps eager to have fun with us?"
"Tsk tsk, even though we can't see her face, judging from her figure she must be a beauty."
Feeling the men's ill-intentioned gazes on her, Su Wan quickly shrank behind Wei Jingzhuo, lifted half of her veil and said, "Let me help you."
Wei Jingzhuo stood with his back to her, holding a long sword and looking proud. She couldn't see his face, but she could hear his cold response, which was like a cold, deep pool.
"It's in the way!"
Su Wan was annoyed by his blunt retort; she hadn't touched him on purpose. She immediately snapped back, "I'm not going to stoop to your level, you sickly fellow."
Granny Cui, hiding behind a tree not far away, called out, "Master, Miss Su has poison; she can be of help."
She had personally witnessed Su Wan splash sulfuric acid on a man in the Su residence, causing him to scream in agony. Now, seeing Su Wan holding the same bottle, she quickly reminded her mistress.
The master arranged for the guard Lin Qingfeng to go out on an errand, and these assassins just happened to appear at this time. It must have been premeditated. We must get through this.
"Hahaha, what good can a woman do?" one of the assassins raised his knife. "Brothers, let's attack together and kill him!"
Without turning his head, Wei Jingzhuo shouted at Su Wan, "Step back!" Then he swung his sword to meet the assassins who were closing in from the front.
Su Wan knew that this was a matter of life and death, and there was no time to hesitate. She ripped off her veil and shouted at the assassin closest to her, "Hey, look at me."
The assassin looked over and came face to face with Su Wan, trembling with fear: "It's a hanged ghost!"
Su Wan was furious. "Damn it, who are you calling a hanged ghost?"
If I hadn't seen my own appearance when I first transmigrated, I would have actually believed his nonsense!
She quickly retorted, "You're the one who's hanging, you idiot!" Then she raised the bottle in her hand and forcefully splashed the entire bottle of sulfuric acid at the other person.
The assassin instinctively parried with his knife, but the sulfuric acid splashed across the blade, half onto his clothes, half onto his face, and a considerable amount into his eyes.
"It hurts so much, damn it!"
Unable to open his eyes, the assassin cursed and took two steps back. Just as he was about to raise his hand to wipe the liquid from his face, Wei Jingzhuo's longsword arrived, a cold light piercing his throat and cutting off his words.
Wei Jingzhuo killed one of the assassins and then went to fight the rest.
Encouraged, Su Wan took out another bottle of sulfuric acid. Before she could even unscrew it, an assassin lunged at her with a knife. Panicked, Su Wan threw the bottle at the assassin and turned to run behind the sedan chair.
The assassin, unaware of the danger, swung his knife to slash, shattering the bottle and spilling sulfuric acid all over his hands. He screamed in agony as the acid burned, and the knife fell to the ground. Wei Jingzhuo turned and struck with his sword, instantly ending the matter.
