The maid muttered, "Miss, what's the rush? We haven't bought our food yet."
The proprietress probably felt guilty for exchanging two fried dough sticks and a bowl of porridge for that piece of silver, and asked the maid, "Where are you going?"
The maid said, "We are going to Ganxi Valley."
The proprietress said, "What are you going there for in this heavy snow? It's in the middle of nowhere... Besides, the Lin family's caravan guards have blocked the road there, so you can't get through."
The maid was taken aback and asked, "You mean the road over there is blocked?"
The proprietress said, "So you didn't know? Look at all these people in my shop, they're all going over there but can't get back. The road ahead is blocked off once you go around this mountain."
The maid asked, "When was it sealed off?"
The proprietress said, "I don't know about that, I don't go that way."
As soon as she finished speaking, a man dressed as a businessman in the corner raised his hand and said, "Miss, I know this. It was sealed off early this morning, when the snow hadn't stopped yet."
The maid turned to the man and said, "They didn't give a reason, they just wouldn't let everyone pass?"
The people around nodded in agreement, saying, "That's right. This is the only main road to the north. If we go around to the villages to the east, it will take a whole day to walk. We asked them why, but they wouldn't say. They're being mysterious."
The maidservant hurriedly left the eatery with the porridge and cakes, went to the carriage, and handed them to Lin Fei. She then said to Bai Zhiyi, "Miss, they've blocked the road."
"Who?" Bai Zhiyi asked.
The maid glanced at Lin Fei, who was eating a fried dough stick, and whispered in Bai Zhiyi's ear, "It's the Lin family's private army that blocked the road to Ganxi Valley."
Bai Zhiyi became even more anxious upon hearing this and said, "Never mind, let's keep going. We'll see how things go when we get there."
