Two magpies with black backs and white bellies perched on the mountaintop, their long, fan-like tails wagging, chirping curiously as they watched her. From behind the mountain came the sounds of women playing and laughing; it was clear that more than one person was listening.
She walked straight ahead down the long corridor towards the main hall without looking to the side.
Halfway through her walk, several young girls came running out from behind the pool, laughing and joking. When they saw her, they all stopped and watched her walk by with the same curiosity as the two magpies.
Qiu Jie entered the hall, where Jiang Wenpei and a middle-aged man were observing Chu Yi. Chu Yi was lying on a stretcher with wheels.
When Jiang Wenpei saw her walk in, he stepped forward and said, "Miss Qiu, this is the head of the family."
The middle-aged man had regular features. His hair was styled in a high bun and secured with a green hairpin. He wore a white robe with blue cloud embroidery on the sleeves. A metal object, about the thickness and length of a tobacco pipe, hung from his waist.
He turned around, bowed slightly to her, and said, "My name is Jiang Yan, and I greet Miss Qiu."
Qiu Jie returned the greeting and said, "This servant, Qiu Jie, greets the master of the household."
“The Seventh Prince is seriously injured; let’s treat him first.” Jiang Yan gestured for him to come forward and led the way. “Miss Qiu, please come over.”
The two walked ahead, with Jiang Wenpei pushing Chu Yi behind them.
After passing through the hall and two courtyards, we arrived at a cliff. The cliff was covered with vines and blue morning glories, as if there was no way forward.
Directly below the cliff, there was a cylinder made of some unknown metal, gleaming in the sunlight. There was a depression at the top of the cylinder.
Jiang Yan asked, "Miss Qiu, do you still have your jade pendant with you?"
Qiu Jie said, "These are my mother's belongings, and I've always carried them with me."
"Please place your jade pendant in the recess of this pillar." Jiang Yan stepped back and stood with Jiang Wenpei.
Qiu Jie took out the jade pendant from her bosom, walked to the cylinder, and placed the jade pendant on it. The shape of the jade pendant and the concavity of the cylinder fit perfectly. As soon as it was placed on it, the jade pendant slowly sank until it was aligned with the surface of the cylinder.
Then the jade pendant suddenly lit up, as if it had instantly turned into transparent crystal, without a single impurity.
“It is indeed the Resurrection Pendant,” Jiang Yan said to Jiang Wenpei. “Brother, you have misunderstood Miss Qiu.”
Jiang Wenpei blushed slightly and stepped forward to bow to Qiu Jie: "Miss Qiu, I had some doubts about your identity before. Please forgive me."
Qiu Jie said, "Mr. Jiang, there's no need to worry. Actually, I didn't know what this jade pendant was for until today. I only found out today that this jade pendant could actually get a family of divine doctors to help."
The jade pendant regained its original color and slowly rose again. Qiu Jie picked it up. Jiang Yan walked to the cliff and fumbled around for a while before pressing a mechanism.
The sound of gears turning came from the cliff, and a stone door slowly rose in front of everyone, revealing a downward slope.
"This is the entrance to the sacred land. Only the patriarch and the goddess are allowed to enter. Miss Qiu, please follow me."
