Su Wan lay on the chair, rocking back and forth slowly.
The stars, like pearls, were set against the backdrop of the night. The waves crashed against the beach, making a soft, gentle sound. The night at sea was so peaceful; even the annoying seagulls were silent, and even the sea turtle Feifei was asleep beside her.
The hour hand of the watch had just crossed twelve. For others, it was the start of a new day full of hope; for her, it was the opposite.
"Ten more days, and it will all be over." She said softly, as if speaking to Feifei, or perhaps to herself.
After waiting for so many days, no ships have yet appeared.
She was very annoyed.
“Ah Jin will never forget me. I know he tried his best to save me. Sigh, why didn’t I tell him sooner? If I had told him…”
If Wei Jingzhuo were told the truth, he would know that she deeply loves him and would definitely seek out the family of divine healers. The family of divine healers would certainly not compromise, and the two sides would inevitably go to war. Since the family of divine healers possesses futuristic technology, tens of thousands of people would die.
No one wants to die, but she can't bring herself to sacrifice countless others just because she wants to live.
“My life isn’t that precious,” she laughed self-deprecatingly. “It’s so ironic that someone who saves lives has become the one who kills everyone. Everyone represents a family, and whether it’s a father or a son who dies in battle, those left behind will suffer immense pain.”
If she dies, Wei Jingzhuo will be sad, Meng Ruliu will certainly be sad, and Chu Mingyao will be sad, but at most it will only affect a few close relatives. But if she lives, it will cause countless families to be devastated.
It's better not to let Wei Jingzhuo know these things.
After she's gone, Zhang Ying will take Chu Ming back to the future, where there will be no more monsters like the Ghost Army or the Trackers. Wei Jingzhuo has proven himself to be a wise emperor; he will surely govern the world well. Bai Zhiyi loves Wei Jingzhuo so much; she will undoubtedly be an excellent wife. Both the Western Rong and Southern Chu have already made peace with the Great Jin, and there will be no more war between the countries.
"The fact that only I died brought so many benefits is well worth it."
Despite all the advantages and having thought things through so clearly, why does her heart still ache so much? It's as if a hand is twisting her heart so hard that she can't breathe.
She covered her face with her hands and sobbed, "Ah Jin, I want to see you so much."
There were no more tears. This was probably a sign that the body was about to die; no matter how painful it was, not a single tear remained.
Tears are a symbol of pain. People cry when they are sad, and with each tear that falls, the pain is lessened a little. A good cry can greatly reduce depression.
She took a bottle of water, unscrewed the cap, held it up, and poured it over her face.
The icy water soaked her face, her long hair, and even her clothes, but it couldn't replace her tears or vent her pain.
"Why, why does it have to be me?" She threw down the empty bottle, looked up at the night sky, and screamed, "Am I asking for too much, or have I done too many evils? Tell me, what did I do wrong that I have to be treated like this?"
The sky offered no answer, only a high wave crashed against the rocks, shattering into countless fragments.
“You’re ignoring me,” she said, propping herself up on a chair and staggering toward the cabin. “Feifei can’t speak, and neither can those thieves… The whole world has abandoned me.”
However, after shouting that, the heaviness in my chest did ease a little.
Upon reaching the door of the cabin, the enormous black shadow of the giant eagle stood silently by the pond, like a statue.
“Even this eagle ignores me.” She pushed open the door and walked into the pitch-black room, collapsing onto the bed, utterly exhausted.
She had been sleeping in a daze for an unknown amount of time when her hand touched a folded piece of paper, and she suddenly woke up with a start.
That was a piece of paper Bai Zhiyi had left for her, and she cherished it dearly. This piece of paper was the only thing on the island that still felt human. Seeing it made her feel that she hadn't completely separated from this world.
She glanced at the time: four in the morning. Since she was almost asleep anyway, she decided to check it one more time. She held a flashlight in one hand and unfolded the paper in the other.
She could recite the previous sentences by heart, but she still couldn't understand the last sentence.
“If you can tolerate the filthiest things, you might see him again,” she murmured.
What exactly does Bai Zhiyi mean?
"He" here naturally refers to Wei Jingzhuo. Bai Zhiyi means that if she can endure the most filthy things, she can see Wei Jingzhuo?
Was Bai Zhiyi just joking, teasing her?
But looking at what Bai Zhiyi said on the paper, it seemed that she was speaking very seriously and was completely open about her feelings, not joking at all.
To see Wei Jingzhuo, she must first cross this vast ocean. She had already built a raft, but it was captured by the giant eagle. The ships from the mainland were also destroyed by the giant eagle.
Both roads were blocked; the only chance to leave the island was to be carried away by the giant eagle. The giant eagle couldn't understand human language, and to get it to take her, she needed a hawk-riding whistle.
She pondered for a while longer.
The last sentence has only two possibilities: true or false. She has already ruled out false, so she will treat it as true.
Assuming Bai Zhiyi's last sentence was serious—that she had to endure something filthy in order to find the Eagle Whistle—because having the giant eagle carry her away was her only chance to leave the island.
Thinking of this, her heart suddenly began to pound violently, and her whole body began to tremble uncontrollably.
Bai Zhiyi left the eagle-taming whistle on this small island.
She leaped to her feet and rushed towards the door. But when she reached the door, she stopped.
If Bai Zhiyi left the Eagle-Controlling Whistle on the island, how did she leave? She couldn't have known about the fire at Huishan while on the island, and therefore couldn't have commanded the giant eagle to do those things.
