Chapter Eighteen: Honest Working Brothers

Many workers' concerns about shoddy workmanship and other suspicions did not materialize, and the quality of the meals every day was consistently excellent.

After Qiao Guoxing and his wife started stirring up trouble in the cafeteria every day, more people wanted to buy their boxed meals.

Xu An's food stall used to take an hour and a half to sell 50 boxed meals, but now it can sell out in about an hour.

With the help of Uncle Dongliang's friend, a series of certificates, including health certificates, hygiene permits, and temporary stall permits, were all processed in three days.

He always carries these certificates with him when he sets up his stall, in case of any unforeseen inspections.

For the next week, Xu An's business was very stable, with about fifty boxed meals being sold out in about an hour each day.

There are many workers on the construction site, but not many are willing to spend extra money. Xu An's stall has diverted one-third of the workers on the construction site who are willing to spend money.

With more people spending money in Xu'an, fewer people are going to the restaurants across the street.

The owner of Jiajia Fast Food Restaurant originally thought that the popularity of this stall would only last for a few days, and that his business would return to normal once the hype died down.

To her surprise, a week later, the stall across the street was still doing brisk business, which made her a little restless.

Workers only started coming to the shop to sell boxed lunches after the stalls across the street had packed up and left.

The proprietress, who used to sit behind the cashier with an indifferent attitude, went outside and chatted enthusiastically with the workers.

After a pointless conversation, we finally got to the point.

"I saw a boxed lunch stall set up at your construction site. Business seems to be booming lately."

The worker was very enthusiastic and honest, and he spoke his mind: "It's cheap, delicious, and the portions are generous. Everyone loves it."

"Haha, so you prefer our chicken leg rice, right? Xiaoshan, give this worker a bigger chicken leg for his chicken leg rice, and also add a tiger-skin egg for him."

"Your chicken leg rice is good, but the portion is too small. One box isn't enough, and two boxes are too expensive. It's just a small treat." The worker paused for a moment and added, "When I finished work today, all the boxed meals were sold out."

These words were like a sharp arrow, piercing the landlady's heart.

The boxed lunches across the street were sold out, so they came to buy my chicken leg rice. They're just a backup option, aren't they?

Since the construction site across the street started operating, the workers' spending has accounted for one-third of the store's revenue. Now that one-third has become one-third of the original one-third, and the store owner can't stand it anymore.

These were originally my customers, my income, and I can't let them be taken away by your beat-up tricycle for no reason.

The proprietress rolled her eyes and instructed the waiter to prepare a free soup for the worker in front of her.

"Besides the small portion size, what other shortcomings do you see? We'll make some improvements."

"The portions are small, with little meat, little vegetables, and little rice," the worker replied as straightforwardly as ever.

"What dishes do you all like to eat?" the proprietress asked persistently.

"It must be meat, the more the better." The worker smiled as honestly as ever, took the boxed lunch from the waiter, which was three times heavier than usual, and gave the proprietress a thumbs up: "This portion is generous today."

After the worker left, the proprietress turned around and shouted, "Someone come and sweep the entrance. It's so dusty and dirty. Other customers won't dare to come in because it's so dirty."

"They're all so stingy and demanding, wanting meat, the more the better. Why don't we just say we want to put a whole pig on your lunchboxes?" The proprietress muttered as she returned behind the cashier.

Adding more meat would reduce profits. Currently, a box of chicken leg rice that costs eight yuan can earn four or five yuan. If more meat is added, it would probably only earn two or three yuan.

But earning less is better than earning nothing. The landlady glanced out the window at the construction site entrance and didn't see Xu An. She couldn't help but curse, "What bad luck to run into someone who does business at a loss. This is vicious competition, vicious competition."

After the meal at the restaurant, the proprietress packed her things and headed to the wholesale market.

There are two wholesale markets in the city, one large and one small. The large one is in the east of the city, and the small one is only two kilometers away from the large one, not far away.

The shop owner went to the large wholesale market first and suddenly realized that the meat supplier who provided their meat was really conscientious. Otherwise, at the prices in the wholesale market, making a profit of three and a half yuan on a box of chicken leg rice would be a miracle.

Maybe we should just get our meat from the butcher we supply. But since we're already here, we might as well check out the small wholesale market.

The proprietress turned into a small wholesale market. The food there had fewer varieties and wasn't as fresh as in the large wholesale market, but the prices were lower.

The third boss's wife was not satisfied with the price. It was about the same as the price from their own supplier, so why go to such lengths?

As I was leaving the small wholesale market and heading back, I was suddenly stopped by a fat, middle-aged man.

"Boss, would you like some cheap meat? Chicken, pork, beef, and lamb are all available. And all of these are real pork, lamb, and beef; they're not duck or rat meat that you can pass off as meat."

"Really?" The proprietress took the flyer from the man's hand with some skepticism and began to read it quickly, her eyes suddenly lighting up.

If the meat dishes are really priced as shown on the flyer, then adding a chicken leg and some meat would make you four dollars more per meal, which is a good deal.
