Da Lazi was lying on the bed, never expecting that his life would end like this.
She groped feebly with one hand, grabbed the edge of the bed, and used her last bit of strength to try to get up. Finally, her body trembled slightly, and she exhaled. Her chest gradually calmed down, and it became silent like a lifeless mountain.
“Squeak—”
The door was quietly pushed open, and a wrinkled old lady's head popped in.
She squinted her eyes and looked hard at the bed, but the bed was in the backlight and she couldn't see clearly. She said "tsk" in disgust and took two steps forward.
Only then was she sure that the person on the bed had died, and a hint of joy crossed her face. She walked to the bed and pushed it with her hand, but there was no response.
"He's finally dead, huh!" The little old lady felt relieved and turned to leave, but suddenly a shriveled and yellow hand grabbed the corner of her clothes.
The old lady was so frightened that she almost fell to the ground. She turned around and found that the person on the bed was still breathing.
"Mom...send me...to see...I don't...want to...die."
"What are you looking at? There's no money there. The lives of poor people are so cheap. Go ahead and don't stay here for too long. I will raise the little puppy. Go quickly and don't suffer any more."
Having said that, he shook off her hand and walked out the door without looking back.
Dalazi got married two years ago. Her husband was from a poor family in the next village. The man lost his father when he was four years old, and he only had a mother and a younger brother at home.
One has no mother, the other has no father, they are a perfect match.
My mother-in-law became a widow when she was young. She was not a kind person to begin with. In addition, there were always people coming to her house to cause trouble in the past ten years, which made her develop a temper that was even more fierce and aggressive than that of Daliyah.
After Dalazi got married, her mother-in-law still looked down on her in every way. She disliked her for being too big and strong, for her loud voice, for dropping rice when eating, and even for her breathing like a cow.
Maybe in her eyes, Da Lazi was just a tool to continue the family line. Fortunately, this tool was still useful and gave her a big fat grandson that year.
After the child was born, Da Lazi's husband was sent to work far away and didn't come back for several months.
Dalazi was also strong. In order to appease her mother-in-law, she went to the fields on the third day after giving birth, and was planting rapeseed in the fields on the fourth day.
It was the coldest time of the year, and all ten fingers were frozen. Even in the hottest days of summer, there was a chill in the joints between my bones.
This summer is extremely hot. It is impossible to walk outside. Your feet will be roasted through the soles of your shoes.
Everyone avoids working during the bright sun, usually from six to ten in the morning and from four to seven in the afternoon, resting at home and taking a nap in between.
But Da Lazi is different. She finishes her work in the morning and goes back to her parents' house to work in the afternoon. Xiao Lazi got married last year, and the old man at home drinks recklessly and often passes out.
The old lady saw Da Lazi going out with a sun hat at noon and scolded him again:
"What a shame, you married into this family. You have no conscience. You don't do any housework or take care of the children. You just work for your parents. Bah."
Da Lazi kicked the door open with all his might and shouted back in a louder voice, "I've done all the housework. You old fool are always looking for trouble here. Get out of here, or I'll kick you to death."
She glared at the old lady fiercely, and her teeth chattered in anger, and her resentment increased.
"Go out and get sunburned. You'll be one less burden if you get sunburned."
The old lady's curse was both poisonous and powerful. At about two o'clock in the afternoon of that day, Da Lazi was hoeing the ground under the scorching sun. His eyes suddenly turned white and his sturdy body rolled down.
That day, there was no one outside except her.
By the time she was found, she had no idea how long she had been roasted, and her entire body was black and red.
Everyone carried her back home. Her father was awakened by the noise outside. He staggered to his feet, looked at his daughter, and rubbed her eyes twice, waved his hands and said:
"It's okay, she's just hot. Send her back to her own home so she can cool down. Her old lady is there and can take care of her. I can't even take care of myself."
Helplessly, everyone called for a tractor to take it back.
The little old lady was very grateful to everyone who helped her. She fed Da Lazi water and fanned him, and her tears flowed down her face.
After the people left, she spat on the ground and said, "You deserve it, you'll be sunburned to death!"
"Mom... give me some more water..." Da Lazi raised his hand, his whole body looking like a cooked prawn.
The little old lady gave her a look, turned her face away and walked away.
Within half a day, the originally round and strong man seemed to have a hole in his body, and water flowed out of the hole. The whole person was visibly deflated, leaving only a flat piece of skin.
Later in the evening, there were sounds of knocks on the door outside the house. The old lady opened the door halfway and looked outside, but was grabbed by the bun on the back of her head by the little hottie.
"Open the door, you old woman!"
The old lady cried out in pain, and Xiao Lazi's two cousins with the same surname kicked the door open.
When a group of people carried the big spicy girl out, the old lady fell to the side crying, shouting: "Oh, my dear daughter-in-law, you are so tired from working, my dear daughter-in-law!"
The little hottie was so angry that he raised his leg and kicked the old lady. The old lady groaned and then fell silent.
The tractor had only been rumbling halfway when the hottie rolled over and died.
The funeral was held in Hetou Village. Da Lazi's father cried and got drunk at his daughter's funeral.
Dalazi's family didn't have a good relationship with the villagers, but in her last journey of life, many people shed tears for her.
The man she hadn't seen for several months didn't show up either.
Dahua and Xiaojuan came back from paying their respects, sighing deeply.
The death of a peer often makes people realize that death is so close to them, and they may be the next one.
You can die giving birth, you can die working under the sun, you can drown in a river, you can be crushed to death by rocks during mountain blasting. In short, there are all kinds of ways to die.
Living a good life is difficult.
