The next morning, my aunt packed up and prepared to leave, and Qiuhua saw her off to the door.
"Aunt, I thank you on behalf of Wu Xin."
"Hey, kid, why are you thanking me?" She looked into the room and saw Wu Xin holding the child.
"Wu Xin is a good kid, but he has a hard life. But now he has you and Fanfan, everything will be fine."
Qiuhua stood at the gate of the yard and refused to leave. She watched her aunt walk farther and farther away. The distant figure looked back again and again. She waved her hand, and the figure continued to move forward until it turned into a black dot.
Wu Xin took a leave of absence and went with Qiuhua to register the child's household registration.
The old policeman adjusted his glasses and muttered, "Father, Wu Xin, Mother, Liang Qiuhua, Qiu..."
He took off his glasses and looked up at Qiuhua, a wrinkle on his forehead. He smiled and asked, "Your name is Liang Qiuhua?"
Qiuhua nodded.
"Do you have a sister named Liang Chunhua?"
"Yes." Qiuhua was surprised.
The old policeman laughed and said, "Well, I was the one who named both of you. Your father named you Sister Liang!"
He laughed, stroked his white hair, and sighed, "You're old, and you've even come to register your child. Let me see, what's his name?"
"My name is Dong Fan."
"Dong..." The old policeman squinted his eyes and looked again and again, afraid that he had heard it wrong. Even though he had doubts in his heart, he had seen a lot in his decades of work, so he did not ask too many questions.
Before leaving, he warned Qiuhua: "You just gave birth, so stay home now. It's cold, and you'll get sick later!"
Qiuhua nodded in response, and the two of them walked out holding the child.
