It’s snowy and the roads are slippery.
Wu Xin pushed the bicycle in front, and Qiuhua followed behind, holding the back seat with one hand.
The snow was still falling and the sides of the road began to freeze. The two men walked in the middle of the road, and the cold mud soaked into their shoes.
"Come on board and I'll push you," Wu Xin said.
"That's too much trouble. I can go by myself." Qiuhua replied.
"Your shoes are wet, don't get frostbite on your toes."
"You're wet too. If you want to grow, grow with me."
Wu Xin smiled, and a white mist slipped out of his mouth while he was smiling, and disappeared into the cold winter night in a moment.
"I can't argue with you. If you get too cold, just sit up, okay?"
"Yeah, okay."
Qiuhua sniffed, and a gust of cold wind blew in, making the tip of her nose seem numb from the cold. She didn't know whether she had a runny nose or not.
She wiped it with her gloved hand, and a trace of transparent liquid was brought out, stretching into a long line.
"Qiuhua." Wu Xin called her softly.
She quickly wiped her hands on the outside of her clothes.
"Don't take what Auntie said yesterday to heart."
Qiuhua's heart sank as he remembered what his aunt had said yesterday.
The couple had been married for five years without having any children, and my aunt was getting a little anxious.
"Qiuhua, I met a friend last time whose family didn't want a daughter. Don't worry, I've seen the little girl, she's healthy and well. They only want a son, and if they throw this child away, he's sure he won't survive."
At that time, Qiuhua didn't know how to answer, so she just remained silent. Wu Xin just laughed it off.
But those words eventually went straight into my heart from my ears.
Qiuhua likes children, but she wants a child for herself and Wu Xin.
"If, I mean if, I can't have a child, you..." Qiuhua said in a very low voice.
“Crunch—”
The bicycle stopped, Wu Xin turned around and pinched her red nose, then leaned over and bit it gently, saying, "Don't let your imagination run wild.
Even if I can't have children, it's my problem. I'm unlucky and don't have children. The fact that I can meet you and marry you in this life has used up all my luck.
It's just hard for you, I know you like children."
Qiuhua's nose felt sore and tears welled up in her eyes. In the snow and ice, the hot tears jumped out of her eye sockets, flowed down her cheeks, and finally rolled to the ground, burning small holes in her eyes.
"You're talking nonsense. You're a doctor, and you're talking about bad luck!"
Wu Xin smiled and hugged her tightly in his arms. He sighed deeply, feeling relieved and at ease. "Of course it's good to have children, but don't force it if you don't have them. The most important thing is you."
Qiuhua buried her face in his arms and nodded heavily after a moment.
When we reached the main road, the road was much clearer. The wheels of the bicycle carrying Qiuhua rolled faster and faster on the wet ground.
The street lights on this road were installed a few years ago. The light is not very bright, but it is enough to illuminate people's way home.
There are clumps of wild grass growing on both sides of the road, some of which are yellow and some are evergreen. The yellow and green are now covered with a layer of white, which is quite a sight.
“Wow, wow—”
There seemed to be intermittent baby crying in the grass.
Qiu Hua smiled sadly: "Hey, it seems that I really like children. I just heard a child crying. Am I possessed?"
Wu Xin stopped, propped himself up on one foot, and said, "I think I heard it too."
The two held their breath, not daring to make a sound.
“Wow, wow—”
Qiuhua and Wu Xin exchanged a glance, and she jumped out of the car, saying excitedly, "There's real crying! Hurry!"
She followed the intermittent crying sound and parted the grass. She found a baby hidden in a torn quilt. The baby looked like an abandoned kitten, and even its crying was hoarse.
"In this freezing weather, what kind of mother is so cruel!"
Qiuhua picked up the child, and she couldn't help but think of her aunt's words, and her heart ached.
There was not a single person around. Leaving the child here in such a weather probably meant that they had no intention of giving her a chance to survive.
Tears welled up in Qiuhua's eyes again, for the child and for herself.
If this child could be born into her womb, she would be grateful for it and would hold her in her arms. She would never let her starve or freeze on the roadside and her life be threatened.
"Can we take her back?" Qiuhua asked with tears in her eyes.
Wu Xin nodded, turned around and picked up the bicycle. Qiuhua sat on the back seat holding the child, and he rode more carefully.
In the evening, Wu Xin went to the hospital to borrow milk powder. There were only two of them at home and they had no experience in taking care of children, so he asked his aunt to come over overnight.
When the aunt lifted the quilt, she saw that the child was probably only two or three days old, with his little eyes still hazy and unable to open. She carefully checked the child inside and out and found that he was very healthy.
"It's God's will, God's will!" Auntie seemed very happy. "Qiuhua, you are going to prepare for this child..."
"Aunt, we want to keep the child." Qiuhua said.
"Okay, okay! Stay, stay! This is a gift from Lady Snow. This child will be blessed with great fortune in the future!"
The aunt changed the child's diaper, put on her old clothes from her own children, and rocked her gently in her arms. Soon, the little one fell asleep contentedly.
"Go and get your child's household registration done tomorrow!"
Wu Xin nodded, paused, and said, "We've named our child Dong Fan."
My aunt was stunned at first, and the smile on her face was obviously stiff. After a while, she recovered and said, "It's good to have the surname Dong. It's good to have the surname Dong. It's right. Your mother in heaven will bless her."
