Seeing the bizarre scene before him, Liu Nian began to secretly prepare for the worst. Then, thinking it over, he decided to also conjure up a small life-saving potion just in case.
On the other side, the coffin lid also fell off as it shook, stirring up a cloud of dust.
Amidst the smoke and dust, a skeletal claw emerged from the coffin, followed by a head and body, fully exposed to Liu Nian's view. Most unforgettable of all was the staff held by the skull's right claw.
"Skeleton mage or lich?" Liu Nian wasn't sure which one had been resurrected, but he didn't want to face either one right now.
Physical attacks are at least visible and tangible, and can be defended against. But those who use magic attacks can often kill without leaving a trace, making them impossible to defend against.
"We can't let it cast spells freely; we need to interfere with it first." Liu Nian recalled his own spellcasting state when he was hit by the arrow.
Seeing the skeleton mage across from him emerge from the coffin, Liu Nian quickly commanded his summoned creatures to attack it.
Surrounded by summoned creatures, it remained calm and composed. The blue soul fire in its eyes blazed brightly, and in an instant, rows of bone walls rose from the ground, surrounding it. The summoned creatures, blocked by the bone walls, were forced to retreat.
Immediately afterwards, a strange sound rang out from behind the bone wall. It was the sound of its spellcasting. Liu Nian listened to the slightly familiar tone, as if it were a summoning spell.
"Oh no, I've run into a fellow competitor." Competitors are enemies, so he quickly commanded his summoned creatures to start smashing the bone wall. With the skeletons working together, a gap was smashed in the bone wall. Through the opening, Liu Nian reached in with his spear and began to stab it through the bone wall.
The summoned creatures were unreliable. At most, Liu Nian could only vaguely command them to attack a specific target. However, the summoned creatures simply wouldn't obey such detailed instructions as extending two weapons into the gap to attack.
The gap wasn't large, and due to the angle, the area that could be pierced was limited. The spear's piercing attack didn't do much damage to the skeleton; after several attacks, only a few bone fragments fell. However, hearing its off-key incantation, I knew that I had successfully disrupted its spellcasting.
Despite the interference, it ultimately succeeded in casting the spell.
After the spell was completed, the floor of the secret chamber was lifted up and then fell down by an unknown force, repeating this several times before suddenly bursting open, and countless white bone claws crawled out from the gap in the floor.
Countless skeletons rose from the rotten soil beneath the floor, clad in rusty iron armor, wielding various weapons, their eye sockets gleaming with green light. It seemed that the level of the skeleton summoner was at least as high as Liu Nian's.
Shaking off the dirt, the enemy skeletons quickly assembled and surrounded Liu Nian and his summoned creatures, instantly reversing the situation.
Before Liu Nian could react, the skeleton mage behind him, having successfully cast his spell, leisurely began to cast the next one. Liu Nian looked at the impenetrable skeleton array behind him, and cold sweat poured down his back.
After giving the skeleton the order to defend, he gritted his teeth, stepped on the gap he had just left, and jumped through the bone wall that was more than a meter tall.
The bone wall, barely big enough to hold one person, was even more cramped with two people squeezed in. Liu Nian and the skeleton were practically face to face.
A rotten smell wafted over, and two "eyes" like lanterns looked over from the opposite side.
Having endured so much of the catastrophe, Liu Nian, suppressing his fear and unable to fully utilize his abilities, had no choice but to drop his spear, stretch out his hand, and peer into the skull's eye sockets.
Perhaps the mage did not expect that someone of the noble profession of spellcasting would be so unethical, his eye socket being pierced, forcing him to interrupt his spell.
Liu Nian wasn't much better off; the right finger inserted into her eye socket felt a bone-chilling cold, and this icy chill spread along her arm to every part of her body.
Hastily extending his finger, Liu Nian tried to continue casting the spell, but instead of continuing, he bumped his forehead against the skull's forehead, just like on TV. The skull, having only uttered a single syllable, tilted its head and was forced to stop casting again. Liu Nian fared no better; his head suddenly felt dizzy.
Perhaps enraged by Liu Nian's shameless attack, the skeleton abandoned its spellcasting and opened its mouth to bite Liu Nian's shoulder. With nowhere to dodge, Liu Nian's shoulder was bitten by the skeleton's head, and instantly turned bruised.
The two were about the same height, but Liu Nian had a weight advantage. For a time, they fought fiercely, with wild punches, takedowns, swearing (on one side), and biting (also on one side) all coming at them.
Unlike the unbearable street brawls inside the bone wall, the fights outside the bone wall can be described as one-sided mobs, with dense attacks coming from all directions, and no matter how you dodge, you will be hit.
The skeletons, impervious to pain, tenaciously guarded the breach in the bone wall. The ghouls, unable to withstand the onslaught, were pierced through the body by several spears and died.
Upon hearing the system notification, Liu Nian was trying his best to insert his hand into the skull's eye socket. The skull opposite him refused to cooperate and scratched at Liu Nian's face with its claws.
The situation outside was about to collapse, and the situation inside was not optimistic either. Liu Nian felt his face being scratched and burned with pain. He turned his head to dodge the skull's headbutt, and then slammed his knee between the skull's legs.
He was about to collapse, but the skeleton opposite him was still full of energy, so he was forced to take out a life potion from his pocket and drink it.
A bitter taste flowed down Liu Nian's throat into her stomach. Liu Nian frowned, and then a warm current surged from her stomach and spread throughout her body, unconsciously easing the pain on her face.
Feeling the vitality within his body, Liu Nian grabbed the mage's head and slammed it against the bone wall behind him.
After several more rammings, the soul fire in the skull's eye sockets dimmed considerably. As if encouraged, Liu Nian ignored the finger bone stuck in his nostril and continued to ram the skull.
Just as victory was tilting in Liu Nian's favor, the last summoned creature was destroyed, and the skeletons on the Skeleton Mage's side seized the opportunity to thrust their spears through the gap in the bone wall.
"Damn it." He'd been stabbed in the kidney. This blow had wiped out all the energy he'd just regained, and Liu Nian's heart sank.
Summoning is obviously too late; we have no choice but to fight.
After much effort, Liu Nian pulled out the cards he had been saving up.
"Certainly"
The moment the card disappeared, a circular barrier opened, instantly freezing the skeletons within it.
Three seconds left, it's either you or me!
Liu Nian swung the skull and slammed it against the wall again.
With a "crack," a crack appeared on the skull's head. Before it could even rejoice, the spear tucked into its waist was suddenly pulled out.
Liu Nian winced in pain, and with a fierce slam, he slammed the skull against the wall again. The force dissipated along with the gushing blood, and Liu Nian collapsed to the ground, noticing out of the corner of his eye that the skull outside the wall was once again lunging at him.
There was no other way; this time it was truly over. Liu Nian smiled bitterly and quietly closed his eyes, awaiting death.
Just as the spear was about to pierce Liu Nian, a sudden change occurred!
A system notification sounded in her mind: "[The Skeleton Mage Tiffany admires your leadership and is willing to follow you]"
【whether】
Hearing this gave Liu Nian a strange feeling. He opened his eyes and looked at the skeleton mage opposite him. The skeleton mage was not moving and did not seem to be faking it.
The stinging sensation from the spear touching his skin brought Liu Nian back to his senses.
"Yes," he answered without hesitation.
Just as Liu Nian made his choice, all the skeletons outside the wall instantly disintegrated and collapsed.
Unfortunately, the bone wall's duration also expired, trapping Liu Nian and his followers beneath it.
"Damn it!" Liu Nian was buried under a pile of bones before she could finish speaking.
