Chapter 23: Try again and get huge wealth

In the Earl's room, Earl White called Martin to his side and told him a shocking news with a serious expression: the orcs had crossed the Sword of Promise City.

Martin was shocked and puzzled when he heard this. He couldn't understand how the orcs had bypassed the Sword of Promise City. But he knew that the earl had called him here specifically because there must be other important matters.

As expected, the Earl paused for a moment, then continued worriedly, "I'm worried about the ladies and Belin. The orcs are burning, killing, and looting outside the Earl's territory, and no one can say for sure whether they will attack the Earl's territory.

I called you here to arrange for a Golden Knight to go to Belin's fiefdom. This way, their safety will be guaranteed."

Martin agreed without hesitation. After all, his family was there, and with orcs wreaking havoc outside, he couldn't feel at ease without sending a golden knight.

The Earl looked at Martin's crisp and clear response, with a look of relief in his eyes. The vague uneasiness that had been lingering in his heart also completely disappeared.

"Ah, help!" A shrill cry pierced the air. As the last civilian was cut down by the orcs' swords, another viscounty fell. Coulson gazed at the mountain of spoils, a smug smile on his face. He immediately gave an urgent order, urging the orc squad to rush non-stop towards the Fallen Autumn Mountains, equipped with their space rings.

News spread quickly, and the details of the looted fiefdoms gradually reached the ears of the Marquis and other nobles. The scale of the orcs was gradually revealed - a nearly full-strength orc army. Upon hearing this news, many nobles were worried, but they could not sit idly by and ignore the safety of their territories.

The Marquis immediately summoned the nobles to the tent. Standing before a military map, he solemnly addressed them, "Another Viscount's territory has been breached. Everyone, I have an idea. The orcs are currently located in Cangyan Territory, with a place called Frost Ridge as their center. Regardless of which route the orcs take, they will inevitably pass through this area, so we will set up defenses here. The golden orcs have incredible perception, making a sneak attack impossible."

At this time, a viscount could not help but ask: "What about the other two baronies? Just ignore them?" After hearing this, the marquis said in a deep voice: "There must be sacrifices in doing anything. Defending in the Frost Ridge is the best way at the moment. There is no need to talk about other things. It's settled." After hearing this, the nobles nodded in agreement.

Suddenly, two of the barons asked, "My Lord Marquis, can we take the family away first?" The Marquis thought for a moment and finally nodded in agreement, "Yes, but as soon as possible." After getting permission, the two barons hurried out of the tent, quickly gathered their knights, and rushed towards the direction of the family.

However, misfortunes occurred one after another.

In the following two days, the two baronies were successively captured, the wealth in the territories was looted, and the wives and children of the barons were not spared.

When the two barons hurried back to their territory, they saw a large group of civilians fleeing in panic. Seeing their own barons, the civilians hurriedly informed them of the tragic news that their territory had been breached.

Before the barons could even wallow in their grief, they were confronted by orcs hunting down civilians. Without hesitation, the barons, swords in hand, led their knights and charged at the orcs without hesitation.

They fought bravely and quickly slew the orcs before them. Unfortunately, this action attracted the attention of other orcs. Outnumbered, the two barons were eventually killed on the battlefield.

During these two days, the Marquis finally arrived at the Frost Ridge, and quickly organized his men and built fortifications in an orderly manner.

Meanwhile, deep within the Luoqiu Mountains, a group of mercenaries was hunting monsters. Despite the looming threat of war, these mercenaries remained unconcerned. They believed that if they couldn't win, they could flee; they could earn a living anywhere.

Suddenly, the mercenaries detected a subtle yet unusual movement. Believing it to be the arrival of a predatory beast, they quickly and silently crouched on the grass, concealing themselves within the underbrush. However, what they saw wasn't the beast they'd been waiting for, but orcs. These orcs, with their faces adorned with carefree smiles, hurried past.

Suddenly, an orc captain stopped dead in his tracks. A knight-level warrior, he relied on his superior perception to detect a group of knight-level humans lurking in the nearby grass. Startled, believing they'd been ambushed, he led his squad without hesitation, charging towards the mercenaries' hiding place with murderous intent.

The moment the mercenaries saw the orcs, their nerves instantly tensed, and they were on high alert. Seeing the orcs charging ferociously, they turned and ran without a second thought. The orcs pursued them relentlessly, and finally, in a valley, they successfully intercepted the mercenaries.

Seeing no hope of escape, the mercenaries gritted their teeth, drew their weapons, and charged the orcs. The orcs were not to be outdone, and the two sides engaged fiercely. Due to the orcs' overwhelming numerical superiority, the battle quickly became one-sided, and the mercenaries were slaughtered and scattered.

The orcs knew that the task of transporting money and supplies was urgent and did not want to delay too much, so they did not continue to pursue, but hurried towards Frost Zero Pass.

The mercenaries, having successfully escaped, lost no time and rushed to report the orcish situation to the mayor. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the mayor sprang to life, purchasing a communication crystal at great expense. After some frantic manipulation, he relayed the message through the crystal to the earl's steward, who then quickly passed it on to the earl. Upon receiving the news, the earl immediately summoned Martin, intending to dispatch the Golden Knights, demanding they return quickly to determine the true situation.
