Chapter 17: Promise

The year was 1973. The country had just experienced several major natural disasters. The country was weak, the people were poor, and resources were scarce.

The location should be Shijia Village, a poor mountain village near the southern section of the Greater Khingan Range in Northeast China. However, their county is not far from the Bohai Bay, so it is not too cold in winter.

The original body destined by fate was also called Chu Xi. After birth, he had always been in a trance and a little demented. He seldom spoke to others and kept to himself, but he was diligent and efficient at work.

Half a year ago, by coincidence, she, who was working as an educated youth in the commune, saved an unconscious man. However, she, known as "Silly Ni", had no idea about the taboos between men and women at that time.

When she went up the mountain to pick mushrooms, she found an unconscious man lying in the ravine and carried him directly back to the dilapidated hut in the corner of the backyard of the educated youth site.

Fortunately, the original body was born with great strength, otherwise he probably wouldn't be able to carry such a big man. It took him until late at night to get home.

She took care of the man like a small animal for three days, and was discovered by a female educated youth who accidentally broke in, causing a big commotion.

"Silly Ni, when did you start raising a wild man?"

"You're thinking about love, aren't you ashamed?"

"It's embarrassing for a man and a woman to be alone in the same room for several days!"

The vicious gossips spread the rumor that they were actually husband and wife. Even though the man had just woken up after being in a coma for three days, no one believed it. Rumors can kill people.

The original self, who did not understand and never paid attention to other people's gossip, could ignore others. After all, she was used to being alone, because she was famous.

But the man was a man of affection and righteousness. He knew that the accident had ruined someone else's innocence and saved his own life.

Out of gratitude or perhaps because he couldn't bear to ruin a girl like this, he simply married her regardless of the opposition of his parents and relatives.

The so-called marriage was just to find the production team leader to be a witness and a matchmaker to bring the person home.

He left overnight that day because he was in a hurry to report back to the army, leaving the original owner at home.

Getting married in this era is so simple. The country advocates frugality and not wasting. If you dare to be extravagant, you will probably be drowned in jealous rumors.

The man in her original body was kind and didn't mind her dementia. He saved her from the fire of public opinion. You have to know that in this era, public opinion can kill people.

Come to think of it, the man looked pretty good, tall and handsome, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes. He was a soldier, and seemed to be an officer.

Bah, bah, bah, he’s someone else’s man, what are you thinking?

That's not right. That self is also a part of myself, or the later self is a part of the original self. Never mind. Mn3 is one anyway...

The most important thing now is to change clothes quickly and fill your stomach. We can worry about the rest later.

It’s winter now. If it keeps getting this cold, I’m sure I’ll die again.

You have to know that in this era, if you get sick and don’t have enough to eat, where would you get the money to see a doctor? You basically just have to bear it, and the rest is basically up to fate.

He endured the pain all over his body, got up, found a cotton coat in the bedside table that was even more worn than the one he was wearing, and quickly put it on.

When I changed my clothes, I realized that there was not a single intact spot on my body. It was covered with purple bruises and scars. It could be said that I was covered with scars.

The fever has gone down and the cold is not as severe anymore, I am thankful.

In particular, there were scars that were obviously caused by something like a long, thin whip, which covered almost the entire body. No wonder he woke up countless times in the apocalypse.

Chu Xi gnashed her teeth and thought, "Silly Ni, don't worry, I will make sure that all the suffering you have endured is returned to that old hag!"

Suddenly I felt relieved. Is this a complete fusion of souls?

He staggered out of the extremely simple house, and as he went out, he saw a grass-colored hen clucking out from the corner.

"Haha, let's have some egg drop soup first!" Chu Xi walked towards the hen with a smile on her face...

There were no zombies, no strange beasts, and no mutated plants that appeared out of nowhere. Chu Xi felt extremely relaxed.

As for that vicious old hag and her two opportunistic, profit-driven, greedy, gossipy, and mean-spirited brothers and sisters-in-law, that's not a big deal!

Oh, there is also a sister-in-law who is lazy, self-righteous, and neither high nor low, but she is the only one who is favored by the two old people.

It’s a pity that she has the body of a young lady but the life of a country girl!

I walked quickly to the chicken coop and found three eggs. "Not bad, not bad!"

You have to know that in this era, it was not allowed to raise poultry privately, and eggs were even more precious. In this era when people had to earn work points through labor, the whole family relied on eggs to exchange for oil, salt, needles and thread, commonly known as the "chicken butt bank."

She took it all back directly. She remembered that there was a little baby in her quilt. She would eat it first. Both of them needed to replenish their bodies. She didn't care whether the old hag would fight her or not.

After years of training in the apocalypse, Chu Xi also has the mindset of an adult in his twenties, especially in a situation where danger accompanies him every day.

Coming into the peaceful era of the 1970s, Chu Xi, adhering to the principle of "I will not offend others if they do not offend me; if others offend me, I will definitely offend them", has begun to relax herself, take revenge and go with the flow.

Of course, she will slowly settle the score for this body. Chu Xi always grits her teeth when she thinks of the nightmares she had in the apocalypse!

"No matter who it is, if they dare to stretch out their claws again, I will chop them off one by one!" Chu Xi smiled coldly in his heart.
