Chapter Sixty-Nine: Moving!

Having an ID card and a mobile phone is like putting a rein on a wild horse (albeit a one-kilometer-long one). Zhang Shaozhong felt it was time to improve his living environment.

That tiny rented room was crammed with three people, like sardines in a can. Especially at night, the two big shots were like ice and fire, one cold as ice and the other passionate as fire. He was sleeping on the sofa, which was like being in a world of extremes, and his back was about to break.

"Move! We have to move!"

Looking at the small balance left in his mobile banking account, Zhang Shaozhong made up his mind, "Let's move to a three-bedroom apartment! At least we'll have a proper bedroom!"

The proposal was passed unanimously.

Ye Meier was the first to agree: "It should have been replaced a long time ago! It's so cramped in this place that it's hard to even turn around! The new house should have a big, soft sofa!" She was thinking about monopolizing the new sofa.

Although Ling Qingxue didn't speak, her eyes revealed her longing for more space, at least a quiet corner to meditate and regulate her breathing.

Let's get right to it.

Zhang Shaozhong once again put his app-savvy skills to good use, frantically searching for an apartment online. His requirements were clear: three bedrooms and one living room, the price couldn't be too outrageous, and the location... had to be convenient for ordering takeout.

I've been looking at three-bedroom apartments for a long time, but the prices are too expensive.

Finally, I found a two-bedroom apartment in an older neighborhood. Although it was a bit old, the space was enough, and most importantly, the landlord was in a hurry to rent it out, so the price was reasonable.

On the day the house viewing was arranged, Zhang Shaozhong brought his two "sisters" with him.

Why bring it?

The main thing is to let them see if they're satisfied!

Upon arriving at the new house, the landlady, a plump middle-aged woman, looked at Zhang Shaozhong with a hint of suspicion in her eyes.

"Xiao Zhang, you... three people living in a two-bedroom apartment? What's the relationship?"

Zhang Shaozhong had already prepared his explanation, and his face was full of sincerity:

"Auntie, these are my two cousins, Ling Qingxue and Ye Meier (he pointed to the two girls). They just came from our hometown to stay with me. They want to find work in the city. They'll stay here temporarily, and move out once they find stable jobs!"

As he spoke, he handed over his brand-new ID card.

The landlady looked at the ID cards and then sized up the two women.

Ling Qingxue, with her aloof demeanor, nodded slightly as a greeting.

Ye Meier tried her best to force a "simple" smile, but the effect was not ideal; she looked more like she had ill intentions.

The woman was skeptical, but seeing that the documents were complete and the rent was payable, she eventually signed the contract.

After receiving the keys and seeing the landlord off, the three of them stood in the empty new house, feeling a little excited.

"Haha! A two-bedroom apartment! We've finally got something out of this!"

Zhang Shaozhong stood with his hands on his hips, looking smug and self-satisfied.

Night Enchantress had already rushed inside to start choosing a room. The master bedroom had a balcony and was spacious and bright;

The second bedroom was smaller, but the window faced south. Without hesitation, she pointed to the master bedroom: "This one's mine!"

Zhang Shaozhong was about to say "Why should I?" when Ling Qingxue calmly replied, "Yes."

Hmm? Is the fairy being so easy to talk to today?

Zhang Shaozhong was a little surprised.

Ling Qingxue walked to the door of the second bedroom, looked around, and said:

"This place is alright; the light is ample and the air is fresh."

She seemed to value the cultivation environment more than its size.

"And what about me?"

Zhang Shaozhong asked expectantly. Both bedrooms are occupied, could it be...?

Ye Meier gestured with her chin to the old sofa in the living room, which looked fairly large: "Look, isn't that your territory? Same old rules!"

Zhang Shaozhong: "..." I knew it!

He looked miserable: "Seriously? My two sisters! You've both moved to bigger houses, and I'm still going to sleep on the sofa? Can we squeeze into the second bedroom? We can even sleep on the floor!"

Ling Qingxue didn't speak, but just looked at him quietly, her eyes clearly saying: There is a difference between men and women, what kind of behavior is this?

Ye Meier directly mocked, "Dream on! Sleep in the same room as me? Aren't you afraid I'll kick you out in the middle of the night?"

Zhang Shaozhong wanted to cry but had no tears.

Well, it seems I can't escape this sofa fate.

Next came the move.

There weren't many items; they mainly consisted of Zhang Shaozhong's belongings and some small odds and ends that his two ancestors had inexplicably acquired (such as Ling Qingxue's empty jade bottle containing pills and Ye Meier's several "old clothes" of different styles).

I called Lalamove, and it was all done in one trip.

Setting up a new home is a major undertaking.

Ye Meier directed Zhang Shaozhong to decorate her "new nest" comfortably, with a whole host of requirements: the curtains had to be thick (so she could sleep in late), the mirror had to be large (so she could admire her beauty), and there had to be plenty of electrical outlets (so she could charge her phone).

Ling Qingxue requested that her room be as simple as possible, without unnecessary clutter, and preferably have a futon (Zhang Shaozhong eventually made one for her using old clothes and sponges).

As for the living room... it became Zhang Shaozhong's "open-plan bedroom".

He looked at the "bed" that was a bit wider than the previous one, but which still couldn't change the fact that it was a sofa, and a wave of sadness washed over him.

"I'm saying...we have a little money now, how about...we buy me a folding bed? We can put it in the living room!"

Zhang Shao made a final desperate attempt.

"Why waste that money?" Ye Meier scolded him.

"Isn't this sofa pretty good? Young man, you need to learn to endure hardship!"

Ling Qingxue added insult to injury: "Where can a cultivator not find peace? Clinging to external things is a sign of falling into a lower realm."

Zhang Shaozhong: "..." I'll teach you a damn immortal! I'm just a mortal! I want to sleep in a bed!

The protest was invalid.

Zhang Shaozhong had no choice but to resign himself to his fate and begin making his sofa bed.

That night, lying on the sofa in his new home, Zhang Shaozhong stared at the ceiling, feeling a mix of emotions.

The house is bigger and brighter, but my status... doesn't seem to have improved at all.

Still at the bottom of the food chain, still sleeping on the sofa.

From the master bedroom next door came Ye Meier's excited shouts while playing games: "Quick, quick, quick! Use your ultimate move! Take him down!" The second bedroom was quiet, presumably Ling Qingxue was meditating again.

Zhang Shaozhong rolled over, and the sofa creaked in protest.

Oh, what a miserable life!

But... at least I don't have to worry about falling off the floor anymore.

Moreover, this sofa is indeed a bit softer than the previous one.

He tried to comfort himself, and just as he was drifting off to sleep, he suddenly heard a soft knock on the door of the second bedroom.

He squinted and saw Ling Qingxue quietly walk out and pour a glass of water in the kitchen.

As she passed through the living room, she glanced at Zhang Shaozhong, who was curled up on the sofa. She paused slightly, as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she said nothing and quietly returned to her room.

After a while, the door to the master bedroom opened, and Ye Meier poked her head out, shouting, "Kid! I'm hungry! Order some late-night snacks! Barbecue!" Then she closed the door.

Zhang Shaozhong resignedly took out his phone and skillfully opened the food delivery app.

Well, even though he moved houses and went from being a "small sardine" to a "big sardine," he's still the sardine who's responsible for feeding him.

When will this ever end?!
