Chapter Sixty-Six: We're certified people now!

One hundred thousand yuan in cash was piled up like a small mountain on the old, worn-out table, its red color dazzling.

Zhang Shaozhong grinned foolishly, feeling like he had reached the pinnacle of his life.

The air of freedom seemed to seep in through the cracks in the window, carrying the aroma of spicy hot pot and crayfish.

"Haha! Tomorrow! Tomorrow afternoon! We'll be able to upgrade our weapons and start anew!"

Zhang Shaozhong was gesturing wildly, already fantasizing about swaggering into a bank with his ID card to deposit money, and then taking his two grandparents on a food tour of the street.

However, after his initial excitement, he discovered that neither Ling Qingxue nor Ye Meier had uttered a sound.

Ling Qingxue simply stared at the pile of money, her gaze somewhat unfocused, lost in thought.

Ye Meier acted even more strangely. Instead of rushing to count the money, she crossed her arms and leaned against the wall, her eyes darting back and forth between him and Ling Qingxue, her expression somewhat odd.

"Uh... what's wrong with you guys? Are you so happy you've gone crazy?" Zhang Shaozhong asked, puzzled.

Ye Meier pouted and asked out of the blue, "Hey kid, what are you planning to do after you get that certificate?"

"Me?" Zhang Shaozhong was taken aback, then said matter-of-factly.

"Of course I'll continue to follow those two big shots! Wherever you go, I'll go! Stick close to their coattails, and your future will be limitless!"

He was even counting on these two to reach the pinnacle of his life!

Upon hearing this, Ling Qingxue glanced at him but remained silent.

Night Enchantress scoffed:

"Follow us? Do you even know where we're going? That hypocrite is probably searching the whole world for her crappy sect. I'm going back to the Holy Church to rebuild! We'll be traveling all over the place, can you keep up?"

Zhang Shaozhong's smile froze for a moment.

Yeah... these two aren't just ordinary roommates.

One is a fairy, the other a witch; their goal is the stars and the sea, something a mortal like him can't possibly interfere with.

A sudden, inexplicable sense of loss washed over me, overshadowing my earlier elation.

Only then did he belatedly realize that getting an ID card might not just mean freedom, but also... separation.

The atmosphere in the room suddenly became a bit somber.

Zhang Shaozhong scratched his head, trying to dispel the strange feeling, and forced a smile:

"Hey! Why think that far ahead! There's always a way out! Besides, we have that... soul contract! We're bound together! We can't run away!"

He said it casually, just to lighten the mood.

Unexpectedly, upon hearing this, both Ling Qingxue and Ye Meier's expressions changed simultaneously!

That's right! Soul Contract!

I've been so preoccupied with worrying about money and my identity lately that I almost forgot about this!

Although the contract was a hassle at first, restricting their freedom, after a period of stumbling along together and that near-madness attempt at "fusion," they vaguely discovered that the contract seemed to have undergone some subtle changes.

The most obvious change is that distance restrictions have been relaxed!

At first, whenever they were more than a hundred meters away from Zhang Shaozhong, they would experience splitting headaches and feel as if their souls were being torn apart.

But now, after several unconscious energy interactions and the slight harmonization of that chaotic energy, they secretly tested it and found that as long as the distance does not exceed about a thousand meters, the tearing sensation at the soul level becomes very slight and can be almost ignored!

But now, when the issue of "separation" is suddenly brought to the forefront, the "new features" of this contract become particularly important.

One kilometer!

This means that even if they get their ID cards, they can't immediately be separated.

At least until they find a way to break the contract, or until they regain their strength enough to forcibly resist the backlash of the contract, the three of them will have to stay together!

This realization complicated the feelings of all three of them.

Zhang Shaozhong was somewhat relieved (thankfully, the partnership didn't immediately fall apart).

The three of them, each with their own ulterior motives, remained silent for a while.

Finally, Zhang Shaozhong broke the silence. He patted the pile of money, and his tone became relaxed again:

"Who cares! We're all in this together now! Let's get this done first! Tomorrow afternoon, at the western suburbs junkyard, cash on delivery, license in hand!"

He looked at the two women, his eyes showing a newfound camaraderie, akin to that of "comrades-in-arms": "Once the marriage certificate is issued, let's celebrate! Then... we'll discuss this further!"

Ling Qingxue nodded slightly.

Ye Meier snorted, which was taken as agreement.

The sadness of parting was somewhat lessened by the reality of the contract.

Right now, obtaining proof of identity is the most important thing.

The next afternoon, Zhang Shaozhong carefully packed 100,000 yuan in cash into an inconspicuous old schoolbag and carried it on his back.

He originally wanted to go alone, since that kind of place didn't sound safe.

But Ling Qingxue and Ye Meier spoke almost simultaneously: "I will go with you."

"I have to go too! What if they double-cross me?"

Zhang Shaozhong felt a warmth in his heart, knowing that they were worried about him.

Moreover, with these two big shots backing him up, he felt more at ease.

Although their skills aren't that great right now, they have a strong presence! They should be able to intimidate people without any problem.

"Alright! Let's go together! But it's a promise, watch my signals and don't act impulsively!" Zhang Shaozhong instructed.

So the three of them set off again, taking a taxi to the western suburbs junkyard.

That place was even more desolate than an abandoned hospital, with mountains of wrecked cars everywhere, like a steel tomb.

The air was filled with the smell of engine oil and rust.

Following the instructions over the phone, they walked to a relatively open area deep inside the junkyard.
