After washing her face, Xu Jiayue ignored him and left the bathroom, heading downstairs.
After she left, his eyes darkened slightly. He would be a fool if he couldn't sense such an obvious change in her distance.
After washing up, he went downstairs and saw her sitting at the dining table eating, so he went over and sat down as well.
Aunt Wu served him breakfast and then went to tidy up the house.
Aunt Wu was deaf and mute, so she did everything very quietly, as if she didn't exist.
"You and your sister-in-law went to buy a bag yesterday?" Pei Yang glanced at the brand-new bag in the living room.
Although he didn't quite understand why she loved buying bags so much, he was willing to indulge her like that. Before they got married, he even specially converted the secondary bedroom next to the study into a place for her to store her bags. The solid wood cabinets, with their individual compartments, were decorated like a bag showroom.
"Mmm," Xu Jiayue responded, continuing to eat her steamed egg custard.
"Didn't you like both colors of this bag? Why did you only buy one?" Pei Yang wanted to talk to her more and find out how much she didn't want to talk to him anymore.
"Does liking them all mean I have to buy them all? Wouldn't it be better if I bought one that I'm loyal to?" Xu Jiayue didn't want to say much, but she couldn't hide her true feelings for a moment.
Pei Yang was taken aback. If he had previously guessed that she might know something, now he was certain that she had misunderstood him. Otherwise, why would she suddenly talk about being devoted to him?
"Jiayue, you saw me and Yan Yu at Starlight yesterday, right?" he asked directly.
Xu Jiayue's eyelashes trembled twice. She raised her eyes to look at him, too lazy to hide anything: "Not only that, I also saw you drive into her villa. I waited outside for more than two hours, but you didn't come out."
"What do you think I was doing in there?" Pei Yang also wanted to know how much trust she had in him.
"I can't guess." Xu Jiayue turned her head away, avoiding his eyes.
"Can't you guess, or do you just not want to guess? I took a shower before I came back yesterday, you should have smelled it when you hugged me." Pei Yang was a smart man, and once he figured it out, he connected all the strange things she did yesterday.
When Xu Jiayue heard him admit that he had taken a shower, she bit her lower lip with her pearly teeth.
"Don't you believe me?" Pei Yang reached out and pinched her chin, turning her around.
Xu Jiayue looked at him and said in a low voice, "I believe you, but you really lied to me. You said you were in a meeting without even thinking. You don't believe me."
Pei Yang was unable to refute it for a moment, since it was indeed his fault.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have kept it from you," he apologized to her.
Xu Jiayue lowered her chin and continued eating her breakfast with her head down.
“I didn’t take a bath at Yan Yu’s house. Nothing happened between Yan Yu and me.” Although she said she believed him, he felt he still needed to explain, and added, “She had something that I was wary of. I just went to deal with that thing.”
Upon hearing this, Xu Jiayue forgot her anger and became worried: "Is it something important?"
In fact, she knew that Pei Yang, who had risen to his current position at such a young age, must not have done so entirely through legitimate means. Perhaps he also had some dirty secrets, like Pei Yan's bribery, that others had in their hands.
“It’s very important to me.” Pei Yang looked at the worry in her eyes, and his heart softened like a loaf of bread soaked in water. He took her hand and said, “But it’s been resolved, so you don’t need to worry.”
Xu Jiayue nodded, the worry in her eyes gradually fading, but she had a feeling she couldn't quite describe.
She and Pei Yang were like people from two different worlds in this respect; she didn't understand his situation at all and couldn't help him.
