Xu Jiayue pulled her feet out of the blanket, ran out of the room without even putting on slippers.
He was not in the study, not in the living room, not in the guest room.
Where did he go? Did he go out?
Xu Jiayue panicked for a moment, but when she got out of the house and saw that the cars in the garage were still there, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Suddenly, I looked up and saw him standing on the rooftop balcony, a cigarette between his fingers, the embers of which shone brightly in the night sky.
She went back inside, ran to the top floor, and stood there blankly by the door when she reached the balcony.
His back view looked lonely and sad. Did she make him sad?
These past two days, she's been dwelling on his faults, completely forgetting his good points.
She clenched her fist and rushed out of the door.
Pei Yang had just taken a puff of his cigarette when he was suddenly hugged from behind.
He paused for a moment, almost afraid to turn around, fearing it was just his imagination and wishful thinking.
"I'm sorry," Xu Jiayue said softly, her arms tightening around his lean waist.
Pei Yang then believed that it really was her who had come to find him.
“I’m sorry,” Xu Jiayue repeated, gently rubbing her cheek against his back. “I don’t hate you, and I shouldn’t have distrusted you.”
Pei Yang burned his fingers with his cigarette. He stubbed it out, placed his hand on her arm, and asked in a slightly trembling voice, "You don't hate me?"
"I've never hated him." Xu Jiayue just felt that this other side of him was a little unfamiliar. She admitted that she was a little scared, not knowing what kind of person she had married, but she didn't hate him and never thought about leaving him.
“I’ve figured it out. I can’t just think about accepting the good things. No one is without flaws, and no one lives entirely in the sunshine. There will always be shadows where there is sunshine,” Xu Jiayue pressed her forehead against his back, her voice slightly hoarse. “I’m very lucky. Although I didn’t have biological parents growing up, my parents loved me very much, even more than they loved my brother. But not everyone is so lucky. I didn’t think about your difficulties. I’m sorry.”
Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and the condensed tears dripped down.
Pei Yang's chest trembled. He thought she disliked him, was afraid of him, and never wanted to get close to him again. It turned out she still wanted him.
“Jiayue…” He turned around in her arms and lifted her face.
Under the soft moonlight, her tears tugged at his heartstrings. He gently wiped them away and asked in a low, hoarse voice, "Then are you still afraid of me?"
Xu Jiayue looked up at his handsome face and nodded: "I'm scared."
Pei Yang felt as if he had been pricked by an ice pick, but then he heard her say, "I'm not just afraid of you as a stranger, I'm even more afraid that something will happen to you. If something happens to you, what will I do?"
As she spoke, tears streamed down her face again. She was truly afraid. While he was dealing with others, weren't they also dealing with him? What if one day, he was caught red-handed like Pei Yan...
"Are you worried about me?" Pei Yang's heart, which had been frozen like the dead of winter, seemed to be suddenly touched by a warm spring breeze, and the ice and snow melted instantly, and tender buds sprouted from the soil.
Xu Jiayue nodded, gripping Pei Yang's clothes tightly, and pursed her lips: "Can't you leave yourself some way out in the future? I don't want to lose you."
"Okay." Pei Yang pulled her into his arms, as if he were holding a lost treasure that he had found again.
Xu Jiayue leaned against his chest and suddenly realized that his cold and ruthless attitude towards others was also a way of protecting her.
Besides, he said he was willing to change for her, so why didn't she trust him more?
