Luo Xikui's face paled slightly. Just how much she had been infatuated with him back then, giving him so much confidence, he still didn't believe her at all, even now.
"Ziyu, what exactly do you want?" She leaned against the refrigerator with a hint of helplessness, looking at him indifferently.
"That's the question I should be asking you."
“Didn’t we break up four years ago? It’s normal for me to have a new relationship. He’s a pianist. We often practice and collaborate together. Over time, we developed feelings for each other.” Luo Xikui didn’t expect that Xu Ziyu would actually want to be with her after returning to China. She thought he was indifferent to her and was only being pestered by her because they were childhood sweethearts.
"You've known Yuan Cheng longer, so why haven't you developed feelings for him?" Xu Ziyu was so angry that he laughed.
“That’s different. Cheng Ming understands me. We communicate our hearts through music.” Luo Xikui felt that her ability to lie had suddenly improved. She spoke so convincingly that she almost believed it herself.
"Oh, really?" Xu Ziyu's lips curled into a self-deprecating smile. She had gone to such lengths to lie in order to get rid of him.
Luo Xikui said nothing more. She felt she had made herself clear enough, and let him think what he wanted.
Xu Ziyu looked at her profile as she turned her head away, her face tense as if resisting his close proximity.
He had even abandoned his self-respect to try and explain to her today, but this was the result he got. It was so pointless. Did he expect him to force her to like him? Did he expect him to use his own scars to gain her sympathy and pity?
Xu Ziyu chuckled lightly and said in a cool tone, "Thank you for your hospitality today. If you want to reject me in the future, don't use such clumsy lies. Just say you don't like me anymore. I'm not the kind of person who clings on relentlessly."
After he finished speaking, he turned and walked out of the kitchen.
Luo Xikui stared blankly at his retreating figure. How could she possibly tell him that she didn't like him anymore? That was the hardest lie in the world. Of course, he wasn't the type to cling on relentlessly; it was always her who was clinging on. If she didn't take the initiative, their relationship was over, just like four years ago when she stopped contacting him, and he stopped contacting her too.
Luo Xikui smiled bitterly, leaned against the back of the refrigerator, slowly slid down, squatted on the ground, hugged her knees, and dared not even utter a sob, her tears falling in a steady stream onto the white ceramic tiles on the floor.
After Xu Ziyu got into the car, he didn't ask the driver to start the car. Instead, he sat quietly and waited for her to come out and explain to him.
One minute, three minutes, five minutes, ten minutes...
Twenty minutes passed, and there was still no movement at the entrance of the villa.
"Let's drive," Xu Ziyu said with a stern face.
The car slowly started and drove out of the Shen family's gate.
Luo Xikui lifted her head from her knees, wiped away her tears, stood up while holding onto the refrigerator, and swallowed hard.
She didn't want to lose him, she couldn't lose him!
Once the thought crossed her mind, she impulsively ran out the door without thinking of anything else, only to see that the car had already driven far away and was now just a small black dot.
"Xu Ziyu, I never disliked you." Luo Xikui cried out with difficulty, and two lines of tears rolled down her cheeks.
Just then her phone rang. She picked it up and saw that it was Xin Chun calling.
She immediately felt as if she had been doused with cold water, jolted awake, and realized what she had almost done. For a moment, she didn't dare to answer Xin Chun's call.
After watching the phone ring a few times and then automatically hang up, I finally breathed a long sigh of relief.
