Xu Ziyu was aware of the gossip circulating among the company's middle management, but he didn't care. It would be strange if no one objected to his position given his age.
As for the gossip among the female employees, it was nothing; he had been used to it since he was a child.
Knock, knock, knock, the knocking sound rang out rhythmically.
Xu Ziyu's gaze never left the computer screen; he simply said, "Please come in."
Xin Chun opened the door and went in, placing a project proposal on his desk. She was also carrying a bag in her hand. She said softly, "Ayu, you haven't had lunch yet, have you?"
"I'll go later." Xu Ziyu still didn't look up, and his voice was very ordinary and indifferent.
“I knew you workaholic hadn’t eaten,” Xin Chun said with the familiarity of an old friend. She put the bag on the table, took out the lunchbox, and said, “This is the steamed sea bass set meal I bought for you.”
Xu Ziyu paused in typing, his gaze shifting to the black meal box before slowly turning to Xin Chun.
Xin Chun smiled faintly, looking meticulous and thoughtful.
Xu Ziyu frowned slightly and said, "This is the assistant's job, you don't need to do it."
Xin Chun's smile froze, and she nodded: "Okay, I understand. I'll go now."
She turned around, and just before opening the door, she heard Xu Ziyu say again, "At the company, it's better to call me President Xu."
Xin Chun's cheeks burned red as if she had been slapped twice. She hadn't expected him to be so ruthless. She had always thought that their relationship during their four years in Germany was different from others.
I don't know whether to say he distinguishes between public and private matters, or to say he's cold-hearted.
"Yes, Mr. Xu, I understand." Xin Chun bowed to him with her head down, then opened the door and walked out.
Xu Ziyu continued working, and half an hour later, he finally finished his task. He glanced at the time and realized that his lunch break was almost over.
He opened the food box, but the fish and rice were no longer hot, and it really didn't whet his appetite at all. He just ate the meal anyway.
He got up, poured himself a cup of hot water, stood by the window, gazed at the bustling traffic below, and took a few sips.
It's been a week since I heard from Luo Xikui. After she went to Japan, he called her twice, but she didn't answer. His messages also went unanswered.
The consulting agency hasn't been able to find anything about what happened four years ago either, so he and she are like kites with broken strings.
Xu Ziyu squinted slightly and took another small sip.
Just then, my phone rang; it was the consulting agency calling.
"Mr. Xu, we've found out a little bit about Ms. Luo, but I don't know if it's convenient to talk about it over the phone." The man's slightly deep voice revealed his embarrassment.
"Go ahead and say it." Xu Ziyu took another sip of water.
"That's right. We found that Ms. Luo had an abortion at a maternity and children's hospital called Youjia in May four years ago."
"What did you say?" Xu Ziyu's ears rang, and he could hardly believe what he was hearing.
“This hospital didn’t have a proper license and was shut down by the government in August of the same year. Based on the information you provided, we found that Ms. Luo had registered at this hospital using her ID.” The man paused and said, “We have obtained the surgical records from that time. Would you like us to fax them to you?”
Xu Ziyu felt that they had most likely mistaken him for someone else, and said calmly, "Send him over."
He gave them the fax number and then stared down at the fax machine on the table.
