Looking at their gifts, Ni Sitian suddenly felt embarrassed to take them out.
She had no idea that they would give such expensive gifts. Xu Jiayue had said that the sentiment was enough that day, but she didn't realize that the sentiment had to be so important. Xu Tingchuan had never told her that either.
It was my first time celebrating my mother-in-law's birthday, and I almost made a fool of myself like this.
“This bracelet is truly best suited for Mom’s wrist,” Xu Jiayue said with a smile.
"You're so sweet-talking." Jin Rulan smiled slightly, raised her hand to look at the bracelet, and seemed to like it very much.
Ni Sitian felt even more pressured. She took the gift from the living room and presented it to Jin Rulan, saying, "Mom, this is a birthday gift from Tingchuan and me. We hope you will like it."
Jin Rulan saw the greeting card clipped to the ribbon, untied the ribbon's bow, and took out the card.
Inside, there was a drawing of her zodiac animal, along with birthday wishes.
Ni Sitian looked on nervously, but to her surprise, Jin Rulan's smile was even deeper than when she received the jade bracelet. Then she opened the gift box and saw a small and exquisite water cup inside.
Jin Rulan raised her eyes and smiled faintly at Ni Sitian: "I like it very much, thank you for your trouble."
Ni Sitian sensed that she didn't seem to like the crystal glass, but rather the greeting card she had made.
"Wow, sister-in-law, you drew so well!" Xu Jiayue took the greeting card and looked at it, praising it repeatedly. "I can't even draw a mouse properly, but you can draw such a difficult animal."
Ni Sitian was embarrassed by the praise and scratched her head.
"You said you'd bring your artwork home for everyone to help you with every craft class and drawing session. You can't even draw an egg properly, let alone a mouse," Jin Rulan said with a slight smile, a little tipsy from drinking strong liquor.
"Every inch has its strengths, and every foot has its weaknesses," Xu Jiayue said playfully, sticking out her tongue.
Xu Haicheng and Ni Sitian both smiled, and Jin Rulan smiled as she picked up her wine glass and continued drinking.
After dinner, Ni Sitian was a little worried about Xu Tingchuan, who hadn't eaten much at all that evening.
So she asked the kitchen to cook a bowl of noodles and brought it up herself.
As soon as she opened the door, she smelled a strong odor of alcohol. She strode inside and saw Xu Tingchuan drinking directly from the bottle – it was strong liquor!
She quickly placed the tray on the coffee table and snatched the bottle of vodka from Xu Tingchuan's hands.
Actually, there's no point in taking it back now, since there's only a sip or two left of the wine.
"What are you doing!" Ni Sitian was a little anxious, annoyed that he didn't cherish his stomach.
Xu Tingchuan hugged Ni Sitian's waist, leaned against her stomach, and murmured repeatedly, "I can't act it out, I really can't act it out. I want to pretend I don't know, but I really can't."
Seeing that he was still speaking clearly, Ni Sitian gently patted his back and said, "Don't force yourself to do something you can't do."
"Why should I know? I don't want to know." Xu Tingchuan hugged Ni Sitian tightly, shaking his head repeatedly.
Ni Sitian didn't understand what was so inappropriate for her to know. As she was thinking about how to comfort him, she heard Xu Tingchuan laugh drunkenly: "Hehe, Sitian, tell me what to do, how to face Jiayue, how to watch her be so intimate with the woman who killed her parents. I really can't act like we're having a good time."
Ni Sitian was stunned. Jin Rulan had killed Jia Yue's parents?!
Xu Jiayue was carrying a plate of fresh fruit when she saw that Xu Tingchuan's door was open, so she went over to him.
